I have been on and off SW for a couple of years now. But my weight has creeped up and I'm now 13 stone 10 and officially obese Shock I am so annoyed with myself, and feel so low.

Anyway I have a holiday and a wedding at the start of July so want to get serious this time. Ultimately I want to lose 3.5 stone overall, but feel that 2 stone would be manageable - it would be 2 pounds a week until July.

Anybody fancying joining me? Please!! I need all the help I can get!

witsend - start by thing about any veg at all that you can tolerate. Can you bear tomato sauce in spam bol? If so, make your own sauce with onion, courgette, tomatoes and lots of tomato puree, a tiny amount of defrosted frozen spinach (one cube to start with) red and yellow peppers. Then once it's cooked, puree it into a totally smooth paste. Add oregano and a bit of garlic puree if you like those flavours from pizza. Then you can use quorn mince and it's a sound SW recipe.

Is there any veg at all that you like? Sweetcorn? Carrot sticks? sweet potato chips? Start with any that you can tolerate and eat them daily to get used to the texture, then gradually introduce variety.

I really need to lose weight. I've been exercising but steadily gaining as apart from daily jog/swim/run my day is 100% sedentary. it's not enough. I now need to lose 20lbs. Problem is I have no motivation at all. I eat healthy food but far too much of it and get really grumpy and moody when hungry. How do you all keep motivated? I'm not a serial dieter, so I have no practise at self denial and hunger! It's not a case of falling off the wagon but never having been on it in the first place. Grin

itmustbemyage · 05/05/2016 11:14

Hi giraffe,
I have been a on off diets in the past, diets where I have eaten a very restricted diet, made myself eat things that I don't like just cause they are low calorie, but all I managed to do was lose a few pounds, get fed up, put the weight - and more back on again.
I did lose a lot of weight with WW by turning into a complete diet bore obsessing over everything that I ate but again over time I put the weight back on - and more. All I ever learned was about losing weight never about eating healthily and maintaining a healthy weight.
I decided that this time I needed to get my head straight first, I realised that I was not happy with the way things were and I was the only person who could fix that.
SW plan is helping me lose weight at the moment, but is also a plan that I can follow long term in maintaining my weight. I maintain my motivation by listing the reasons I want to lose weight (further up this thread) and not putting off the things that I want to do until I lose weight ( I let my weight put me off so many things thinking that people would judge the "fat girl") I have started doing some exercise (to help maintain my weight loss as it has slowed down) , taken up a new hobby and also am following 52 small changes challenge (making up my own challenges) making a small change in my life each week.
I am basically revamping my life.
I am also lucky that other folks in my place of work are losing weight / getting more healthy as well and we motivate each other. Also coming on here really helps. I have also given myself little rewards ( non food related) when I have met my interim weight loss targets. I am also planning a whole new wardrobe when I get to my goal weight, I am spending the absolute minimum on clothes as I go down through the sizes so that I don't feel tempted to stick at a particular weight. I read somewhere that you should wear clothes that are a bit snug rather than baggy clothes to encourage you to lose weight.
Good luck

notagiraffe · 05/05/2016 12:19

Thanks itmustbe - that's really good advice. I catch sight of myself in shop windows and am appalled. I look massive. 52 little changes sounds good. What sort of changes did you make? And what sort of treats do you have?

One of my problems is that I'm lonely. I have plenty of friends but I work from home alone so day in day out there's not much social interaction and I end up glued to the net for company, which is addictive, so instead of pottering in the garden or sorting out the attic - being active and improving life I just slump in front of a screen to have a chat.

itmustbemyage · 05/05/2016 14:01

giraffe It must be hard working from home alone and I would feel lonely too.

but if you need a kick up the bum, here we go.
If you have time to be on the net you have time to do more positive things!

You say you need to lose 20lbs which if you manage a 1-2lb weekly loss you could do this by the end of the summer.
I had 76lbs to lose when I started on the SW plan (ish) - so I really looked massive and still do in fact, so good for you tackling this now.
There are 52 small change challenges threads on mumsnet - Week 1 of the 52 small changes challenges. Week 2, Week 3 etc a lot of the challenges were food ones and some of them were a bit odd - so I made up my own.
The idea is that each week you add one, so week 1 - you do the week 1 challenge you have set yourself, week 2 you do the week 2 challenge you have set yourself as well as carrying on with the week 1 challenge and so on - but check out the threads they explain it better than I can
My challenges are
Week 1 - eat more healthily and take a multi vitamin/ mineral
Week 2 - drink more water ( I drink 1 1/2 litres of water each day in addition to other drinks)
Week 3 - get more sleep
Week 4 - build more activity into my day (walking home from work, taking a long walk at the weekend, getting up from my desk at regular intervals etc)
Week 5 - take at least 30 mins a day for personal development (I am doing a 30 day yoga challenge on You tube so it's free - and before you ask I am rubbish at yoga but am getting better) I am also practising mindfulness.
Week 6 - focussing on my mental health writing down at least one positive thing that has happened each day- if nothing nice is happening create a positive experience, go for a lovely walk, spend time with a friend or loved one, reach out and help someone otherwise it is very easy to get into a negative state of mind.
Week 7 - get back into volunteering work
Week 8 - try a new activity and meet new people -
this is where I am at the moment I am going to phone today and enquire about joining the local rambling club.
Week 9 - I am planning on decluttering my house (too much stuff makes it harder to keep tidy)

But you could make up your own list.

My treats have been

Lovely slimming diary (I love nice stationery)
Big pack of multi coloured sharpies (again stationery) + craft stuff
Fancy new lunch box ( I take prepared lunch to work every day)
Signing up for a mindfulness course
New make up
Booking Weekend retreat (this was a biggie)

You can do anything if you put your mind to it!
(I am trying to live up to this one myself but I'm a work in progress)

notagiraffe · 05/05/2016 14:30

itmustbe ooh I love your last post. Love that list and your treats and all the changes you seem to be making. definitely the sort of thing that makes me tick.

I know I need to do more daily exercise.
Today I emailed a friend who teaches tennis and asked him to give me a couple of lessons (total beginner) prior to joining his beginners group.
I also signed up for an online 6 week Personal trainer trial. he sends you nutrition sheets and you are accountable to him for what you eat, weigh, how much exercise you've done and before and after photos. Like a living MFP!

You are so right about having time to do more positive things than hanging around on the internet! In fact, you've just made me realise - I need to do more physical stuff with other people, to get fit and have company at the same time!

Oly5 · 06/05/2016 07:26

Only lost half a pound this week but I have been hoovering up DC leftovers etc and not thinking 100% what I'm doing. I guess the numbers are still going down. Hoping this hot weather and getting out my summer dresses will spur me on.
I'm 5ft5 now 11st 7lb. Trying to get to my happy weight of 10st 10/12lb

notagiraffe · 06/05/2016 07:36

Well I was sensible yesterday until I heard that my mum's Alzheimers has got a lot worse and we are going to need to act which includes trying to get my dad to see he'll have to sell the house he loves to pay for her care. Then I had three chocolate biscuits, eight rivet and a piece of flapjack! Hmm. Need to Google ways to deal with stress instead of comfort eating Grin

Oly5 · 06/05/2016 07:57

I know how you feel. My mum had cancer for 18 months and then died and I've never been less interested in dieting in my life. I think one thing that might help is realising that eating the extra food is going to make you feel even worse. Every time you're tempted to binge say: is this going to make me feel really better?
Writing down everything you eat may also help as you wouldn't want to "spoil" a day's hard work when written down!
But just accept it happened and move on. We've all been there

itmustbemyage · 06/05/2016 14:00

Oly5 congrats on your weight loss every bit does help, get out those summer dresses to give you a bit of an incentive, it is a lot easier to convince ourselves that we don't look too bad under thick jumpers my excuse anyway. Sorry to hear about your mum, my dad had lung cancer for 2 years before he died and it is such a stressful time for everyone watching a loved one slip away.
Giraffe sorry to hear about your mum my MIL has Parkinson's disease together with Parkinson's related dementia and it is very difficult, she moved from her home to sheltered accommodation a few months ago but won't / can't agree to selling her house. My DH may be forced to put it up for sale anyway (he has power of attorney) against her wishes, hopefully it won't come to that. I feel so sorry for all of you esp your dad - try and seek comfort from family and friends rather than the biscuit tin.

Just an update
2 stone by 1st July challenge

Week 1/12 - 2lbs lost
Week 2/12 - 2lbs lost
Week 3/12 - 3lbs lost
Week 4/12 - 2lbs lost

I am now officially 'just' overweight having lost 47lbs in total (please ignore the sound of me banging my own drum) I am so chuffed.

Oly5 · 06/05/2016 19:04

That's amazing!!! Well done!!!

Geepee71 · 06/05/2016 20:06

Keep banking that drum itmustbe, that's a fabulous and inspiring loss!

Geepee71 · 06/05/2016 20:06

Or banging even.....

KingFluff1981 · 09/05/2016 11:36

Me too please! Currently weighing around 13 stone and also classed as obese :/ I would love to lose 2 stone by July as I am fed up with a jelly belly and muffin top, would love to feel bit more confident, I am joining this week, so let you all know the damage!

itmustbemyage · 09/05/2016 12:35

Welcome KingFluff good luck with your weight loss journey.
It doesn't matter what the scales say when you start, cause hopefully you will never see that number again. I think most of us would love to feel more confident in ourselves, regardless of what other people think, and it was also a big motivation for me.
Looking forward to hearing how you are getting on.

Moxiechick · 10/05/2016 15:39

I'd love to join this thread. I started SW middle of 21st March. Like a few have said before I'm a serial rejoiner too! This time however, I feel much more determined.
My starting weight was quite a bit more than others have stated. Weighing in at 18st 2.5 lbs Blush and I'm 5ft8.
My weight loss has been;
Week 1 - lost 7.5 lbs
Week 2 - lost 2 lbs
Week 3 - gained 1 lb (expected from night out!)
Week 4 - lost 7 lbs
Week 5 - lost 2 lbs
Week 6 - gained 2.5 lbs (came on and ate loads of shit)
Week 7 - lost 5.5 lbs
Total loss so far 1 stone 6.5 lbs
I've now nearly lost the stone and a half I put on after having a miscarriage before Xmas. Just need to lose the 2 stone of baby weight I gained having dd nearly 3 years ago then I have to work on the excess weight I was carrying before that!
Want to use this thread as extra motivation to really stick to it this time!

itmustbemyage · 10/05/2016 21:03

Welcome to the thread moxie, sorry to hear about your miscarriage, it's tough I know and the last thing you want to think about is how you look. I had two miscarriages myself so my heart goes out to you. I am now blessed with two grown up boys.
I'm only just tackling my baby weight now, my youngest is almost 17 (years).Blush. You have done amazingly well so far and good luck for the rest of your weight loss journey.

itmustbemyage · 13/05/2016 17:37

Oly5 · 15/05/2016 13:47

Wahhhh I've had a bad few weeks and haven't lost a thing! I've swayed off plan. Back on it tomorrow!

Moxiechick · 19/05/2016 18:53

Just an update. Lost 2 more lbs on Monday giving a total of 1st8.5lbs.
Was hoping for more as I spent 3 days eating speed soup but then remembered the day before I went for a massive meal out with desert Shock so very happy with 2lbs.

Well done itmustbemyage you're doing great!

Oly5 we all have bad weeks. It's fab that you're back on it now Smile

YellowOlives · 19/05/2016 21:04

I'm still going with this challenge! 12.5lbs down. I really want to make it a stone by next weigh in. I have a tricky weekend ahead of me where I won't be able to cook for myself, but really going to make an effort. Will then do Mon/Tues as SP days.

I like the weight tracker on the website and how it predicts what you could weigh if you keep losing at your current rate. It's very motivating seeing I could be down another stone before my holiday.

Keep going everyone Smile

Oly5 · 20/05/2016 21:16

I lost 1lb which isn't too bad given I've not been good. I have 8lb to go til I hit my target weight. I don't want to give up now! I need to look up SP days

itmustbemyage · 20/05/2016 21:17

Thanks everyone for your support it helps keep me going when the going gets tough.

An update for the challenge

Week 1/12 - 2lbs lost
Week 2/12 - 2lbs lost
Week 3/12 - 3lbs lost
Week 4/12 - 2lbs lost
Week 5/12 - 2lbs lost
Week 6/12 - 2lbs lost - very happy considering we were out for a meal last Saturday for DH's birthday. Confession time I had cheese fondue and bread to dip into it😳It was lovely though, I had to do emergency SP days to rescue the week.
Oly5 hope this week goes better for you.
Moxie it sounds like you and I had a similar week congrats on this weeks loss and your amazing overall loss.
Yellow amazing loss on this challenge, fingers crossed for getting your stone at next WI. Hope you can get some SW friendly food over the weekend. Great that the weight tracker is helping you to stay focussed.

itmustbemyage · 20/05/2016 21:22

Oops Oly5 cross posted well done on your loss, keep going, you are so close to your target.👏

emmaluvseeyore · 23/05/2016 10:48

I've been really rubbish at remembering to post on here, but I had to come on to share my success this week. After a really rubbish previous 2 weeks where I gained 1.1 kg each week, I decided enough was enough, and I was going to get back on it properly. So I upped the speed foods, cut down on the syns (still having 10-15 most days), did 4 sessions of exercise, and it certainly showed on the scales!

2.8 kg (6lbs) lost this week!!

I am now at my smallest since starting in April 2015. I lost so much that the SW website was concerned I was crash dieting. I really hope I keep it off an lose more this week and that it wasn't a fluke!
