I have been on and off SW for a couple of years now. But my weight has creeped up and I'm now 13 stone 10 and officially obese Shock I am so annoyed with myself, and feel so low.

Anyway I have a holiday and a wedding at the start of July so want to get serious this time. Ultimately I want to lose 3.5 stone overall, but feel that 2 stone would be manageable - it would be 2 pounds a week until July.

Anybody fancying joining me? Please!! I need all the help I can get!

Hi Cider
I think the SW plan is essentially healthy if you steer away from too many recipes that call for 5 tablespoons of sweetener!!
But I really wish you well and do treat yourself, there'll be loadsa time to diet when you are feeling healthier.

Hi folks,
Biglaugh 2.5 stone is great even if it has taken you 2 months to lose the last half a stone, it's so much harder in the winter when we all crave hot comfort food, personally I never fancy a salad til about May. One thing that I started in the last week or so is drinking more water I'm following the 52 small changes challenge thread as well and am aiming to drink 1 1/2 litres of water / day (should be more but can't manage to fit any more in as I also drink tea and coffee) this really helps to fill me up and combined with the extra exercise I get from running back and forward to the loo it does seem to be helping.

CiderwithBuda · 13/04/2016 11:52

Hi all. Thanks for all the best wishes. I was very lucky - picked up early. Thank God for the screening system.

I weighed yesterday and was 15 11 not the 15 10 I thought. I think that was cheesecake and wine on Saturday night!

Hi BigLaugh. Well done on your 2.5 stone. That's a great loss. I need to cut the wine too. A glass of wine has same amount of calories as a jam donut! When I am being good I drink very weak white wine sodas made with low alcohol wine. So I'm starting back on that properly. I find I only have max two a night and I make it so that it is one glass of wine over the two drinks.

Completely agree about SW being basically healthy. The basic idea is great - 3 proper meals a day made with real food. It's the sweeteners and chemicals that I have a problem with. The group I used to go to had a FB page and lots of people put up photos of their food and so many people had lunches of a Mugshot, Apple, muller light and a HiFi bar and then craved food all afternoon because other than the apple there was no actual nutrition in their lunch. The body then cries out for real proper food. So people have another HiFi bar and another Muller Light. Sorry - it's a bit of a thing for me!

I did lots of treating myself over the last month or so! Feeling shit as a result so determined to eat well now.

Lostlalaloopsy - glad you are seeing the light! For drinks I find a jug of water with sliced orange in it is nice. Even DS likes it and will choose it over cokes etc.

I've just had a banana so far today as I was supposed to be going for a walk but keep getting side tracked! Off out now as its so nice and sunny.

itmustbemyage · 13/04/2016 12:33

Hi Cider,
I agree with you about the sweeteners and additives which is why I am doing Slimming World (ish) on my own. Healthy food cooked from scratch with three meals a day is def the way to go treats should be things you really enjoy I bought a couple of mug shots (as a back up to keep in work) but freaked out when I read the list of ingredients I imagine the HiFi bars are the same? I batch cook at the weekend and freeze and have a hot lunch and dinner every day (my microwave veg steamer is a life saver) I have managed to lose a good amount of weight without any weird SW recommended foods/ magic pills / special tea /rainbow coloured pixie dust that some folk seem to swear by it's not easy and we all fall by the wayside at times but it can be done.
My rant over. Looking forward to hearing how everyone is getting on.

CiderwithBuda · 13/04/2016 13:31

I quite fancy the sound of rainbow coloured pixie dust! Grin. I've tried everything else over the years!

YellowOlives · 13/04/2016 15:42

I went to class and lost 2lb this week. So that's 4 in two weeks. I am oleased, but seems slow considering that it's just the beginning and I have a lot to lose. Anyway, shall keep going. If in 7 weeks I can have lost the first stone, I know I will be pleased.

I also agree about the sugar issue and HiFi bars. Today someone was saying they will never buy another avocado again after realising the syns. No one mentioned that whilst it has fat, it's a good fat. I try to eat quite clean and I find a lot of the foods that would be encouraged on that kind of a diet, are high in syns. So nuts are out but mug shots are in. A bit confusing sometimes I think.

CiderwithBuda · 13/04/2016 16:24

It is confusing Yellow Olives. I rather have an avocado than a Mugshot any day!

I'm trying to eat clean too. It makes so much sense. I know it seems like a fad but in reality it's how we used to eat. Three meals of proper food a day. If we had cake it was home baked and when it was gone it was gone. We knew what was in our food. Before 24 hour snacking and junk food and chemicals masquerading as food.

CiderwithBuda · 13/04/2016 16:25

Oh - well done on your loss! 2lbs is good. I know we all want to lose 4 or 5 lbs a week but it's not do-able.

Oly5 · 16/04/2016 10:03

I lost 1lb this week in top of 5lb in my first week so happy with that considering I ate out one night with loads of wine and fried tempura!! Have started picking at the kids' leftovers again so need to stop that. 11lb to go to get back to pre-pregnancy weight and healthy BMI! I am hoping that once the weather warms up I'll be slipping summer dresses on with ease.
Good luck this week ladies!!

itmustbemyage · 16/04/2016 14:20

Just an update

2stone by 1st July challenge
Week 1 (I was late joining in) of 12 weeks
Lost 2lbs
Happy with that but then decided to celebrate 3months on SW with a takeaway curry and nan. I know bad idea!
So not holding out much hope for week 2.
It was well worth it though, going to get right back on plan drinking lots of water and trying no syns for the next few days so fingers crossed xx

CiderwithBuda · 16/04/2016 14:50

I have not been great. Went to a friend's for dinner on Wednesday night and drank far too much wine. Then had a hangover lunch with a friend. And fajitas and wine last night! Haven't bothered weighing!

However on Monday I am starting a six week lifestyle challenge that a friend has set up so I am hoping that will keep me more on track.

Biglaugh · 16/04/2016 20:02

Hi there both - sounds like you are on track. i was pleased with my Wed weigh-in - half a pound (yes, that is good news, it is like trying to shift Stonehenge).
But then downhill. Awful week, lost my aunt who I'd been looking after. My daughter v distressed and about to do A levels.
I compensated by eating and drinking way too much and tonight my dinner has been a glass of wine and some brownies.
I've put three pounds on since Wed, how is that possible?
I must not go down this road, it doesn't make me feel better in the long run and I hate myself for doing it.
Sorry so gloomy...Sad

itmustbemyage · 16/04/2016 21:54

So sorry to hear about your aunt Biglaugh you must have been close very hard on your daughter at such an important time in her life.
I know it is going to be hard for you to stay on track for a while but remember comfort eating does not really comfort us it is the care and support given to us by our loved ones and friends that will really provide that comfort that we all need so badly during difficult times.
Reach out to them rather than reaching for wine or brownies or post on here when you need someone to tell you to step away from temptation.
I would also suggest you show yourself some loving kindness and stay away from the scales for at least a few days you don't need the added pressure of small gains at the moment. You have lost weight already and you know that when the time is right you can do it again.

Cantstopeating15 · 17/04/2016 19:45

Hi everyone, sounds like there's been some good losses!!

This has been my first week as I was a bit late to the group. It's been good but I have really struggled not to eat my duaughters leftovers!! The sunshine has made salads more tempting though which helps! Anyway, I have lost 5lbs! I'm sure most of it is water but its great seeing the numbers going down!!
Hoping for 2lbs next week so fingers crossed.

Hope everyone has a good week too.

Biglaugh · 17/04/2016 21:20

Thank you itmustbemyage. That's such good advice. You're right and I won't get on the scales for a while as I don't need the grief.
But I've done so well and to derail now would be hard after so long.
It's so easy to slip back into old habits.
I'm going to stop with the wine. I have to. It is becoming a crutch and its empty calories.
Halo

itmustbemyage · 17/04/2016 21:38

Hi everyone,
Yellow Oly5 and Cantstop thanks for posting your losses, amazingly well done all of you.
They have really inspired me as my initial enthusiasm has waned a bit after 3 months but I am comitting to the plan seriously for this coming week.

Good luck with your 6 week lifestyle challenge Cider.

Biglaugh · 18/04/2016 09:06

Monday morning everyone! and as Peter Kay says there are 52 Mondays in a year to start your diet on!

I'm hoping to be back on track today and well done to everyone who is losing and not larding it up on wine and chocolate like I have been.

Grin
CiderwithBuda · 18/04/2016 10:02

I'm sorry about your loss BigLaugh. Try not to be too hard on yourself.

I've gained half a pound. So I'm 15 st 11.5. Pah!

I've just waved DH off on a business trip - he won't be back till Friday. So no excuse for wine this week. I can eat what I want and not be tempted by crap.

Have started today with a glass of hot water with lemon and then had two eggs scrambled and a cup of tea. Now having a detox tea. And about to go do some exercise. Was going to go for a walk but it's cold! And grey.

Biglaugh · 18/04/2016 10:25

Thanks Cider.
Good luck with DH out of way. Sometimes I think it works in your favour as you don't have to cook man-shaped meals but other times you don't bother with proper food just for yourself.
Run up and down stairs a few times instead of venturing into cold, grey day

YellowOlives · 18/04/2016 22:04

Hope everyone is doing well. This evening I made the SW prawn recipe that's in the magazine. Just OK.

I'm really hoping for another 2lbs this week. There are some fantastic weight losses in the class I go to and they all talk about how much food they eat. I keep trying to make myself eat my syns. Can anyone tell me how they use their syns? Is it just top ups, like crackers if you having a salad, of do you use them for a Wispa or something?!

Good luck to all those weighing in tomorrow Smile

Bellipong1 · 18/04/2016 22:20

Count me in! I joined SW tonight. I have two stones to lose. I've just let the weight creep on and I'm determined to do something about it! Good luck everyone!

itmustbemyage · 18/04/2016 22:57

Yellow I'm probably not typical but I don't actually count up my syns I don't drink alcohol (just doesn't agree with me) but that seems to be a common way folks use their syns especially if you are a save your syns til the weekend type of person. I tend to add things to my meals rather than have treats I don't personally miss chocolate so I don't bother. My favourite treat would be fresh crusty bread smothered in butter and a big hunk of cheese and as that would be impossible on SW plan I have resigned myself to not being able to enjoy that for quite some time. I will have a slice of pizza or piece of cake if I really want one I just can't be bothered working out syns. It works for me being a bit relaxed otherwise I turn into a completely obsessed bore about trying to lose weight. You should do what works best for you if you need to use your syns for chocolate or wine go for it or if you prefer to add a little something to a meal to make it more enjoyable then do that. Syn points are there to be used in a way that will help you stay on SW plan.
Belli welcome I look forward to hearing about your SW journey determination is the key.

CiderwithBuda · 19/04/2016 08:04

Bloody hell! 3lbs off since yesterday! Just water I know but really happy!

Yesterday's food was:
B - 2 eggs scrambled with a teaspoon of butter
L - large salad of leaves, cherry tomatoes, quarter of an avocado, stuffed spicy baby peppers, grated carrot and chicken with some light mayo and balsamic
S - one piece of a graze choc flapjack and an apple
D - salmon with courgetti, asparagus, cherry tomatoes, peas and pesto
S - strawberries with quark - the vanilla one - some flaked almonds, small pack of popcorn
6 glasses of water

Def going for a walk today - need points for my lifestyle challenge!

Yellow - I'm not using syns at the moment. In fact realistically I'm prob not really doing SW! Maybe I shouldn't be on this thread. I'm concentrating on healthy food and healthy snacks and moving more. When I was actually going to SW I used my syns for wine and a couple of treats in the evening.

Oly5 · 19/04/2016 11:46

I use my syns for treats - wine, crisps, chocolate and biscuits. Keeps me on plan the rest of the time!

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 20/04/2016 13:17

I've lost 20lb so far (since Feb) and would love to lose another 2 stone by July, but have a feeling that at 2.5lb per week that ain't going to happen!

I'd be happy with another stone gone, I'm mainly on plan with very few syns, except on Saturdays because that's my weigh in day. I do go a bit wild sometimes.

I tried on my own and genuinely can't see where I was doing anything different than SW (except for the Hi-Fi bars) and in a month I lost nothing. Literally nothing. And I was 15 stone at 5 ft 5 so have a lot to lose!

I'd like to be at 10 stone 8 by my holiday which is 22 August but realistically, I think even 11 stone would be a push. But I'm determined to get into a healthy BMI this year.

I've already lost a third of what I need to to get to 10 stone 8 so although I would like bigger losses, I'm pretty pleased with looking at it that way!
