Mumsnet Talk re-platforming - Known issues update

JustineMumsnet · 21/04/2022 14:44

Hi all,
As you probably know we re-plaftormed the site overnight on Tuesday (in order to move to a faster, more stable and secure site which would be easier to develop new features on). There are a number of issues and bugs as a result of the move that we are working through and we thought it would be a good idea to list them on a page which we can keep updated as we sort through the problems. You can find that page here.

Mumsnet is a very large, complicated and old site - we've been working on re-platforming for the best part of 3 years - so it's not a huge surprise there are some bugs but please be assured we are working our way through them will get to them all as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime I do apologise for any inconvenience and frustration - I know it's been a painful day and a half for some.

Thank you to all those who've fed back and are helping us solve the remaining issues - it's really much appreciated Flowers.

I spoke too soon when I said that bookmarking seemed to work on "new" threads - ones that were created after the clusterfuck of an "upgrade". Hmm

They don't Angry

They seém to work initially but then re-bookmarking - as is normal on a fast moving thread and the whole point of having the facility Angry - they don't change to the new bookmarkAngry It might work initially/for a short while but when you go back in later (you know, because we have lives outside of MN Shock - or might have wanted to read some other threads Shock) it's jumped back to the "old" bookmark. Confused

It's making it very difficult to follow a thread Angry

prettybird · 24/04/2022 09:53

The 1000 post limit on a thread no longer seems to work - at least, on the app it is still possible to post on a thread that has 1000+ posts Confused

AndAsIfByMagic · 24/04/2022 12:25

Any chance of restoring my disappeared watched threads?

beastlyslumber · 24/04/2022 12:31

Notifications STILL don't work.

NCTDN · 24/04/2022 14:30

Most of it's not working for me Hmm

Not sure if this is "known" but active is behaving oddly when you use the back button. I'm not sure if it's refreshing every time (it has done this before and then it was fixed, but it's harder to tell with the new layout) or doing something different but threads are disappearing and reappearing in a different place.

Yes, this keeps happening here too. Probably the most annoying aspect of the update for me.

Any chance of restoring my disappeared watched threads?

and mine...

Also, while that is being fixed could the "watch this thread" button for threads in "I'm on" be brought into use so that I can watch threads I have posted to in the past, and don't have to go to two places every time I want to see threads I am interested in? At present I can click on "watch thread" until I am blue in the face and it doesn't cause that thread to be in my "I'm watching". I have tried unwatching those threads (since they come ready-marked as being watched) and then licking on "watch thread" again next time I go into them, but no joy.

Why is it that when things are "improved" it always makes them worse? Before they finally decided to close down the BBC discussion boards and stop posting anything to their blogs, every "improvement" they made caused those to be less pleasant to use, less functional, and with fewer of the features we had got used to over the years.

"If it ain't broke don't fix it" is a good motto on the internet as it is in a garage.

QuebecBagnet · 24/04/2022 17:23

Still can’t access my messages

Me three!

CherieBabySpliffUp · 24/04/2022 18:26

Is anyone else having the issue where when you press next post when reading only the op posts it freezes the page?
I'm using Chrome on Android for mobiles.

TheFluffiestCat · 24/04/2022 18:39

I can't bookmark. iPhone and iPad.

DomesticatedZombie · 24/04/2022 19:00

This is quite small but still finding it irritating: When I copy and paste something, the text is automatically highlighted, so when I keep typing it bloody deletes what I've just posted! It didn't used to do this.

I do a lot of copy/pasting when quoting articles/people. Would be good if this could go back to how it was.

BertieBotts · 24/04/2022 19:06

I've noticed that as well Domesticated.

On all other platforms when you paste something, the cursor is deposited at the end of the pasted text.

Anyway I have come with some emoticon-related requests - can you re-enable the shortcuts :)
:( and colon-o (for some reason it's not actually letting me type a third colon Confused) for Smile Sad and Grin - or if you no longer like :o then colon-D would be fine for the grinning face and colon-o could be shock (Seems both my colons and square brackets are rationed in this text box for some reason?)

Also can we just type the square bracket shortcut and not have to click to confirm please... that's a bit annoying.

NotTerfNorCis · 24/04/2022 21:19

What I miss is the ability to see 100 posts on one page. That was incredibly useful for searching.

Duchess379 · 24/04/2022 21:31

I can't post on the phone app. It comes up with 'ooops something went wrong'. I can post on the website version but that doesn't run well on my phone 🙄

RampantIvy · 24/04/2022 21:45

Notifications for me as well. I get this

I went to "My Mumsnet" and then "Settings" and then "Talk Settings" (I think it was: I can't go and check, because if I do I will lose this post) and there was a place to check which I wanted for the number of posts per page: I think it was a choice of 25/50/100/All

EskSmith · 24/04/2022 22:04

400 bad request errors contantly, Android 11 using chrome. Clearing cookies which is the suggested solution doesn't help. I've had to load Firefox to get on and post this. It's been like this for days, it's only this evening I've had time to try to work out what is going on.

LadyJGrey · 24/04/2022 22:35

@SueMumsnet Where have the notification emails gone, for updates to threads you were on / watching?

Lynnthesearesexnotgenderpeople · 24/04/2022 22:35

It's mostly fine for me, but I really liked it before when the OP was in green and your own posts were in pink - can you bring that back? Apart from that, I'm getting used to the new site ok.

TurquoiseDreamCatcher · 24/04/2022 22:44

TheFluffiestCat · 24/04/2022 18:39

I can't bookmark. iPhone and iPad.

Same here. It's infuriating.

HellyR · 24/04/2022 23:10

Is anyone actually reading the post linked to in the OP? The page that this thread is about?

A lot of the issues still being brought up are noted in it, with ways around a couple of them. E.g. the colour of your posts/OP posts.
www.mumsnet.com/articles/talk-updates

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/04/2022 00:19

I've read it. I'm difficult though, I like 25 posts most of the time (because I 'know' how long a 6 or 23 or 38 page thread is), but liked the option to view all if I wanted to search in the thread or skim through really quickly.

The problem I'm having that isn't there is that clicking the arrow next to a post in TIO doesn't take me to that post, it takes me to my bookmark instead.

I also keep going to a board rather than the thread I meant to click on, but suspect that is just me being inaccurate with my clicking. Grin

AchillesPoirot · 25/04/2022 06:22

There's something wrong on the app when you delete threads

So sometimes the thread shows up but with all the posts available, and the post by the op replaced by the deletion message If you open it to read it.

And then if you refresh, it shows as thread deleted.

BUT if you then go to any other thread it shows as thread deleted too

Screenshots attached.

Back button on active takes you back to the very top of the page, so if you’ve used the ‘load more’ button, you have to scroll down and repeat this every time. So annoying!
