Mumsnet Talk re-platforming - Known issues update

JustineMumsnet · 21/04/2022 14:44

Hi all,
As you probably know we re-plaftormed the site overnight on Tuesday (in order to move to a faster, more stable and secure site which would be easier to develop new features on). There are a number of issues and bugs as a result of the move that we are working through and we thought it would be a good idea to list them on a page which we can keep updated as we sort through the problems. You can find that page here.

Mumsnet is a very large, complicated and old site - we've been working on re-platforming for the best part of 3 years - so it's not a huge surprise there are some bugs but please be assured we are working our way through them will get to them all as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime I do apologise for any inconvenience and frustration - I know it's been a painful day and a half for some.

Thank you to all those who've fed back and are helping us solve the remaining issues - it's really much appreciated Flowers.

Does anyone know where the advance search went? Can't seem to find the correct tab ...

It’s gone, sadly. The new search function isn’t anything like as good.

BoreOfWhabylon · 26/04/2022 12:03

@SueMumsnet I still haven't got my Watched threads back. If I actually track down some of the ones I know I had watched (difficult/impossible in some cases without Advanced Search) They are still marked as Watched but are not showing up in my list. I can't rewatch them either. I have examples, if that helps?

Has anyone found out where or how to Refresh on this new site?
I'm on iPad safari and cannot find anything that resemble the old Refresh button, just keep having to go back to the previous page or exit a thread but that is so clunky.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/04/2022 12:06

Ah, thanks Matilda - I thought it was just me being incompetent Blush

What with that and the constant glitches you have to wonder if any of this was actually trialled before being rolled out; a few snafus are to be expected but it's getting ridiculous now

Yes please examples would be super helpful. I will PM you. Thank you!

Posts aren't limited to 1k anymore which is causing issues on threads with multiple parts

I'm on ipad safari too, I refresh by hitting the little curly arrow at the far right of the browser bar thingy right at the very top of the screen (the one with mumsnet.com and little padlock in it)

minmooch · 26/04/2022 12:51

I still can't upload a photo.

Multiple posts repeated.

Watch list never updates.

It's rather tedious now to use.

bestbefore · 26/04/2022 13:58

Using the app and the desktop version - the app no longer has the 'stickies'/ 'promoted by mn' threads. Which may be a good or bad thing!

theDudesmummy · 26/04/2022 14:43

The multiple repeated posts today are doing my head in.

Also, really missing the Refresh button.

theDudesmummy · 26/04/2022 14:45

And hate the fact that you can't switch easly from seeing one page to see all posts. You have to choose in the settings rather than just being able to just hit See All Posts for specific thread. I used it all the time.

AnneKipankitoo · 26/04/2022 15:29

The photos are not as good … if you can post .

prettybird · 26/04/2022 15:52

I note that @JustineMumsnet says that the platform change was to make it faster and more stable site.

Just for the record: it's not faster (lags on both the desktop site - that is, when you don't get error messages Hmm - and slow/incident loading on the app) and it doesn't seem to be more stable (eg all the error messages and today's duplicate postings/error messages) Sad

BruceAndNosh · 26/04/2022 16:03

Still waiting for "yesterday" and "today" to be reinstated instead of dates

JasmineTeacup · 26/04/2022 16:31

Apologies if it's already been mentioned (I know, the MN sin of not RTFT Grin), but I'm seeing loads of topics that I've hidden in Active on the iOS app. I've been on the website settings to check and it's showing the topics are still hidden and unhiding then rehiding them hasn't made any difference. I'm using an iPad with up to date OS. I'm getting the same thing on my iPhone and on the website, where I use Safari.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 26/04/2022 16:35

What’s with the multiple posts-making all threads unreadable and useless. Only bonus is that I haven’t bothered at all today as it is so shit.

You are absolutely spot-on, @prettybird - thread loading is significantly slower, and so is posting.

And now we have an epidemic of multiple posts on multiple threads - I assume MNHQ are aware of both these issues, @JustineMumsnet - but it would be nice to know that something is being done about them.

ElectricDeChocobo · 26/04/2022 17:39

Earlier I searched for Fury in the new improved search since I wanted to know if there were any threads about Tyson Fury's latest fight. I got a bunch of threads about furniture and one that mentioned furbies. I hope someone @MNHQ can explain to me in my ignorance how this is better than advanced search.

BertieBotts · 26/04/2022 17:42

Oh no electric really? That sounds tiresome.

iklboo · 26/04/2022 18:02

My Watched threads are still missing too.

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 26/04/2022 18:07

I’m finding it very annoying (mobile, safari, latest iOS) to not be able to click on the coloured section of a new thread title, but having to click on the exact title itself to be able to click onto that thread - see photo for a better explanation. Unless I click on the teeny tiny bit circled green, I can’t access it. Previously you could click anywhere in the red zone and it would take you to that thread

I can't believe that mumsnet has actually gone live with a site that is so full of bugs.

prettybird · 26/04/2022 18:32

I have yet to see evidence of a single "improvement" Confused but instead lots of missing features, issues with photos (fortunately they still work on the app), problems requiring work arounds and a slower rather than faster website SadAngry

prettybird · 26/04/2022 18:35

....and even with that post, there was an example of the problem (which was supposedly to do with the server and had supposedly been resolved Hmm) as it claimed not to have posted and suggesting I retry. Fortunately I didn't believe the message so there was no double post Wink

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/04/2022 18:40

I can't believe that mumsnet has actually gone live with a site that is so full of bugs

That's why I wondered upthread if this had been trialled in any way

A few bugs are no surprise with any such change, but MN's own list of "known issues" is depressingly long, and to my mind a lot should have been identified and fixed before launch rather than after
