Mumsnet Talk re-platforming - Known issues update

Hi all,
As you probably know we re-plaftormed the site overnight on Tuesday (in order to move to a faster, more stable and secure site which would be easier to develop new features on). There are a number of issues and bugs as a result of the move that we are working through and we thought it would be a good idea to list them on a page which we can keep updated as we sort through the problems. You can find that page here.

Mumsnet is a very large, complicated and old site - we've been working on re-platforming for the best part of 3 years - so it's not a huge surprise there are some bugs but please be assured we are working our way through them will get to them all as soon as we possibly can. In the meantime I do apologise for any inconvenience and frustration - I know it's been a painful day and a half for some.

Thank you to all those who've fed back and are helping us solve the remaining issues - it's really much appreciated Flowers.

The 1000 post limit on a thread no longer seems to work - at least, on the app it is still possible to post on a thread that has 1000+ posts Confused

I reported a post today to demonstrate that the 1,000 post limit was broken. I was thanked Smile and told that the thread had now been closed. I then went back on to the thread and posted another comment Confused, taking the total to 1004. I was then asked to post the issue on this thread, where all the problems are being collated.

I have quoted my own post from Sunday, to illustrate that I already had raised the issueConfused

I have yet to see evidence of a single "improvement" Confused but instead lots of missing features, issues with photos (fortunately they still work on the app), problems requiring work arounds and a slower rather than faster website SadAngry

Yep.

I really don't understand why the heck it went live in the current state.

As an aside, I'd have considered it an improvement if the limit for posts on a thread had been formally increased.

As it stands it seems very much device-dependent - I can't go above 1k posts on the desktop site but some people obviously can using mobiles.

Why not just increase the limit for everyone?

Menomadness · 26/04/2022 20:21

I use the app. Despite a log out and in again ( which did refresh my watched threads) the app has starting just closing whist I am scrolling through posts today Confused

LorW · 26/04/2022 21:04

the site keeps refreshing randomly for me when scrolling through a post, is exceptionally slow and keeps coming up with a white page with ‘error’ at the top of it and so I can’t access the site for a few mins at a time, the multiple posts are also doing my head in 😅

NCTDN · 26/04/2022 21:12

Things appear to be fixed here Smile

TalkedTooMuchStayedTooLong · 26/04/2022 21:17

Not on the app they're not!

Datsandcogs · 26/04/2022 21:35

The issues I am having, some have been mentioned before I stopped reading every comment.

5 or 6 blank lines at the top of active threads
no captilisation where needed
far too many ads, 1 stays static at the top of the page reducing reading space and then there are multiple as you scroll down a page
pages crashing if you try and return to them
issues with logging in and what can be viewed
BUT BY FAR THE WORST is the consent pop up, sometimes I can read a few pages before it repeats but mostly it happens on every single page

NCTDN · 26/04/2022 21:59

Spoke too soon - bookmarks still not working.

saraclara · 26/04/2022 23:52

Yep, I just came on to say that bookmarking isn't working. For example, on a thread that I've come back to a few times, even though I bookmark each time, whenever I click on it, it takes me to the first response that I bookmarked. Maybe the site can only cope with one book marking per thread?

Laptop, Chrome btw.

SiobhanSharpe · 26/04/2022 23:59

I'm now getting random strikethroughs when i post something. Not always but it looks bonkers!

Bosky · 27/04/2022 01:18

PREVIEW - EDIT PROBLEM

When I Preview my post I cannot see the original text below the Preview, which used to be the case.

So I assume that the "Edit" button should allow me to Edit the post I am Previewing?

However, what happens when I select Edit is that the screen is then blocked by a huge black "Oops" Error Message.

This contains black text on a black background saying, "Sorry, you're not able to access Mumsnet".

I have selected the text before taking a screenshot of the error message so that you can see the black on black text.

The text is faintly visible on the actual error message as a slightly darker black than the background but it did not show up when I took a screenshot without selecting it to highlight it.

HOWEVER - I tested it on this post and there was no problem!

So the issue is either not site-wide or it is caused by the content of my post, which included "Mumsnet formatting" plus links, including one to YouTube and one to . . . ah! . . to a popular Archiving site!

Could inclusion of an "archive DOT today" link be causing this problem?

An unwritten rule banning links to that particular Archive site seems to have been implemented at some point.

Nope! I removed that link and it is still giving me the Error Message when I try to Edit from Preview.

What’s with the multiple posts-making all threads unreadable and useless. Only bonus is that I haven’t bothered at all today as it is so shit.

This. It's making reading threads impossible. I don't know whether this is already on the glitch list because I can't see a current version anywhere.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/04/2022 07:48

My main annoyance is that I can’t get the old version of desktop. Love that

hate the mobile site

and the number of posts shows - not the new replies since I last logged ln

so I don’t know what threads have new replies without clicking on them

plus as others said

page reloading lots

very slow

huge Gaps due to ads

the consent thing has finally gone yah

Only good thing is

bookmarks work for me. Not sure why don’t for others

Seeingadistance · 27/04/2022 09:40

OvaHere · 23/04/2022 00:35

Can we please have the refresh thread button back? I really miss it for threads that are moving fast. Yes I know I can refresh in browser but it's less convenient.

Either that or an auto refresh function as new posts are made, as some other sites do.

This!

This new set-up is just dire. I see no improvements at all, and loads of good things have been lost.

prettybird · 27/04/2022 12:44

Even the option to bookmark is not always there Confused - although it can be done on the penultimate post (the example I did a screen shot of had been flipped Hmm)

This shows how can bookmark the penultimate post. Interestingly, if you don't flip the thread, you can bookmark the last post Confused

AchillesPoirot · 27/04/2022 17:33

Threads I’m on is in a different order on the app to the website.

JustineMumsnet · 27/04/2022 18:37

Hi all,
Here's an update on the things we've released today:

  • Fixed deleted threads showing in Active
  • Fixed an issue with clicking to bookmark when logged out not taking you back to the correct place after registration
  • Fixed an issue where local would display an error if you changed the radius
  • Allowed threads and replies to be submitted with Ctrl+Enter
  • Fixed an issue where hidden topics weren't displaying properly in settings
  • Fixed an issue where watched threads on the app were different than the site
  • Fixed Android app times being an hour out
  • Made all timezones reflect the user's selected timezone in the apps
  • Made pagination arrows bigger for accessibility
  • Made back button work on PMs
  • Reordered Mumsnet Emojis
  • Fixed being able to change username in the app
  • Fixed an issue with not being able to click through the page numbers

We'll continue to work through the remaining bugs/issues/enhancements. In the meantime thanks for your patience and do please highlight any further problems.

Thanks @JustineMumsnet but my bookmarks still don't work.

Hi @NCTDN - we're really really struggling to track this issue down. We've spent hours and hours trying to recreate the problem and bookmarks are working fine for us.

So can I ask - would anyone who's having this problem regularly be willing to jump on a v quick video call with us so we can watch the problem in action and try and work out what's going on? Would take no more than 5 mins and would be hugely appreciated. If you're willing - please post here and then I'll PM you to set up. Thanks so much for any help!
