Ideas for a black section on mumsnet.

Should we have separate sections i.e black hair and beauty, black parenting, black cooking or a general black section?

Agree with you Flymetothetoon

OP seems to think that Mumsnet is only about and for white people. I would have more respect if she asked for a BAME section covering black and mixed-race issues.

donnadenise · 10/09/2020 17:30

No. People of any colour can use any part of MN. I can post in style and beauty about my hair, I don't need a black section of MN to do it.

Albgo · 10/09/2020 17:31

@sunshinesupermum - no one is stopping you from asking for this if it's something you want??

@Flymetothetoon

Imagine the uproar if someone suggested a whites only section!
Yes the would be uproar because it wouldn't be the same fucking thing.

I'm not black so it's obviously not for me to decide. If this is something black mumsnet users want then of course it should happen. I can see loads of ways the experience of black women and mothers are different to what white women so I can totally see the need for it. This comment shows how many people can't fathom black women may have different experiences to white women.

In the OP 'black hair and beauty, black parenting, black cooking or a general black section?' She has already got a long thread begun yesterday Black Section on MN covering this request.

BAME covers anyone that isn't white.

That isn't what I'm working on.

Feel free to start your own campaign for a section you want.

MNHQ must be pulling their collective hair out having to moderate all your threads OP. But I hope they give you what you want.

I like the idea of different sections, I mentioned in previous thread but it may have got lost, an employment section, maybe about going for internal promotions?

I like this too Smile

Awful idea. Mumsnet, by parents for parents. But let's lump you into separate groups.

Plussizejumpsuit · 10/09/2020 17:37

Seems like the op has her own experience of feeling like mumsnet isn't for black women. Rather than just having decided it is just for white women. Why are you being so defensive rather than listening to her experience? @sunshinesupermum

wildcherries · 10/09/2020 17:38

I hope HQ listens. I'm still in disbelief how this suggestion was likened to segregation on the other thread. No one has said only black people would be able to post there. The whatabouttery is only proving OP's point.

OverTheRainbow88 · 10/09/2020 17:38

A school/education section? Currently trying to decide which primary school to put as first choice, the outstanding out is 90% white and the closer one is about 85% BAME but has a poor reputation- would be good to chat about that

PatricksRum · 10/09/2020 17:38

We've already been segregated.

I think I'd be happy to never hear the made up word 'whatabouttery' again that's for sure Grin

SalemSaberhagenSpellman · 10/09/2020 17:39

The op specifically said no white people in her deleted thread

DaisyDoo1919 · 10/09/2020 17:39

Black.style and beauty please for definite, but cooking might be good too
