Advanced Search Question

Hi Tech, asked this question on another thread but it's better off in here.

Posting from a TwatPhone iOS 11.2.5 using Safari.

When I use advanced Search, when I click on the post (or poster) I am looking for, instead of taking me directly to the post within the thread, it drops me at the top of the thread. It never used to.

It's a pain in the arse. Especially if it's a long thread (eg, I was looking for a post I made a long time ago about the flooding in my home town. Adv Search found my post really quickly, as I knew a 'key' word and (obvs) that it was posted in my name. However when I clicked on that actual post it took me to the top of that thread and I had to scroll through, nearly to the bottom, to find the post I was after).

Another poster has the same issue, but someone who posts using their laptop doesn't. Is it just a phone thing?

Would appreciate you taking a look, cheers.

Yep, this issue still occurring for me too. Hmm

FlissMumsnet · 24/08/2019 18:41

I admire your persistence - feel sure we MUST be able to sort this one so will jump and down and beat my chest until someone gets to grips with this problem.
So sorry it's a pita for you all

Lovely to hear from you Fliss - Wine

Please don't beat your chest too hard, I don't want to be responsible for any physical damage you may do to yourself. Grin

Seriously, you're right, it is a pita.

BertieBotts · 24/08/2019 19:27

As a workaround until MN fix this, I have noticed in some cases the advanced search adds an extra /Talk into the URL and sometimes it removes the one which is supposed to be there. You can fix the links by manually adding or deleting the wrong part.

Admittedly this is easer on desktop than mobile.

BertieBotts · 24/08/2019 19:28

That's for the problem of "Oops, we can't find this page", anyway - it won't fix being unable to search within a thread (but Ctrl+F on most browsers will do this for you).

Batshittery · 25/08/2019 18:48

Well done Silvery at least you got a reply but not a fix Grin

SilverySurfer · 30/08/2019 14:55

Bopping to the top - for all the good it does.

AlexaAmbidextra · 02/09/2019 22:59

Still the same. 🙄. Quite frankly, this site is so clunky imo it’s about time MNHQ invested some of their advertising revenue in a complete overhaul of the entire site. It’s so past it’s sell by date they should be embarrassed.

WhoAreThey · 03/09/2019 11:43

I can't understand why there is ALWAYS a problem on mumsnet. Other sites don't seem to break as often as mumsnet does..

colourlessgreenidea · 06/09/2019 09:20

Any update on this problem, @MNHQ?

SilverySurfer · 07/09/2019 11:54

Weekly bump.

Batshittery · 08/09/2019 19:23

Just nipping in to wave to Silvery Grin

Pinkywoo · 09/09/2019 22:38

Just seen lots of comments complaining about this issue on the "not seeing deletion messages" thread, funnily enough they've not been acknowledged by mnhq!

colourlessgreenidea · 09/09/2019 22:39

Weekly bump.

God loves a trier Wink

DrMumMum · 11/09/2019 21:04

This is laughably bonkers!

SilverySurfer · 13/09/2019 19:23

Weekly bump to @MNHQ and a wave back to you Batshittery and to everyone keeping this thread near the top.

I suppose the 'Tech Team' would need smelling salts if I added a new request. How about an edit button available for, say one minute or even 30 seconds after you have posted? Have a look on the Digital Spy forum if you need an example.

SilverySurfer · 19/09/2019 18:33

In view of radio silence from @MNHQ I thought we could sing a song, or at least a bit of one. I hope everyone is in good voice.

And, one and two and three...

Why are we waiting
Why can't we start changing
Why are we waiting
Always so frustrating
Why are we waiting
We need rearranging
Why are we waiting

January 2018!

Bloody hell!!!!! I didn’t even look at the year! Shock

soniamumsnet · 20/09/2019 09:42

Hi,
`
Thanks again for all the reports on this and we're so sorry for the delay in fixing things.

We can now confirm that it was fixed yesterday. If anyone has any further issues with it, please let us know.

ClosdesMouches · 20/09/2019 09:57

Soniamumsnet , nope the original issue is still happening.

I've C and Pd this paragraph from the OP to explain the issue that was described initially to clarify, as other posters including myself had problems with this and also with the 'Oops we can't find that thread' issue.

"When I use advanced Search, when I click on the post (or poster) I am looking for, instead of taking me directly to the post within the thread, it drops me at the top of the thread. It never used to. "

Pinkywoo · 20/09/2019 11:19

It's really not fixed, if you click on the thread title (eg. "to ask for a caesarean" in the screenshot) it takes you to the top of page one, but clicking on the comment below ("I'm a decade on") brings up the very annoying "oops" page.

SilverySurfer · 20/09/2019 15:28

@MNHQ no - this has not been fixed. If I search my name and my post is on page 1 of a thread, it will take me to the post. If it's on any of the following pages it goes to the top of page 1 and stops.

The random Oops thing is also still occurring.

Obviously my song wasn't rousing enough for the 'Tech Team' so I'll see what else I can find.
