Hello, you. Well, 2017 has been a corker of a year for Talk threads at Mumsnet. The constant flurry of brilliant threads you've posted on the boards has kept us enthralled all year. We've laughed, we've cried, we've sat, mouths agape, while our tea went cold as we followed your stories.

Mumsnetters never fail to delight with their wit, wisdom, endless support and clever rhetoric and this year we'd like to celebrate that.

Just to nudge the memory banks we thought we'd share these two beauties from Mumsnet Classics.

Help. Epic hotel choice failure - the one where two esteemed Mumsnetters discovered each other, at the same dire hotel, via this thread, and later painted the town red.

My foof is buzzing- the one with the sentences you never thought you'd write (as well as vaginas with the voice of Brian Blessed and discussion of Banjo Fanjo Syndrome in the 'lady of a certain age').

Those were just a couple of our favourites but we would love to hear about the threads you loved most this year. Please post a link below and tell us a bit about why the thread in question was one that stands out for you.

They don't have to be funny - we're also looking for threads that were tear-jerkers, had happy endings, kept you scrolling into the small hours or were just plain lovely.

You can pluck your nominations from any topic but here are the categories we've come up with so far - if you think we've missed a category, please do feel free to suggest one of your own. Before anyone asks - we're afraid we won't be handing out mugs for any troll threads (nope, not even the ones that were a tiny bit funny). We can't have MNHQ mugs in hairy hands - perish the thought:

Cheeky Fucker thread of the year
Best AIBU
Feel-good thread of the year
Most outrageous thread of the year
Most nostalgic thread of the year
Most memorable moment of the year
Outstanding moment of Mumsnetter kindness on a thread

We can't wait to hear your nominations. We will have a scrat in the office cupboard and dig out some (much coveted) MNHQ mugs for each winning OP (or significant poster) of a Thread of the Year. And to show our appreciation we'll also find something else lovely from our Magic Cupboard for a selection of lucky people drawn at random who post on this thread to make a nomination. .

To celebrate the unique space that is Mumsnet Talk, MNHQ would love you to share your Threads of the Year!

BIWI and everyone on the Low Carb Bootcamp threads, amazing support and encouragement. I've lost 45lb this year and would never have stuck it out without those guys.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 17/12/2017 18:46

My favourite thread this year (and I'm sorry, but I can't remember the title to link it) was back in the summer. It was about a woman who wanted to bring her kids to a hen night. It was one of the original CF threads.

The poster was fab. The bride was awesome.

It ran to 2 threads and by the end of it, half of MN were coming with assorted pets and children. It was very funny.

Thymeout · 17/12/2017 20:19

i'd like to nominate WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo? She runs the Cancer thread on General Health. Probably most Mumsnetters are lucky enough not to have read this thread, but for anyone either waiting for test results and diagnosis or those who are living with this dreadful disease, it provides a unique source of support, advice and general cheering up.

Leslie manages to remember everyone's details, when their appointments are, and to say exactly the right thing when the news isn't as good as was hoped. She's having chemo herself at the moment, but rarely misses a day. I think she's a marvel and, if anyone deserves an award, she does.

FlashTheSloth · 17/12/2017 20:56

Keep, yes they were spectacular CF threads, they are the ones where she actually turned up with her child and BF weren't they?

I love a CF thread. The pisstaking work one was gobsmacking in it's CFuckery although the follow up is quite worrying for the OP.

What is less entertaining is the constant piling in of nonsense, ruining the thread and resulting in hardly any posts from the actual OP, and this has been a big stand out for me with MN this year, and the constant contrary posters who will tell an OP that black is white, just to disagree with them, plus an increase in 2 posters arguing the toss on a thread and derailing it completely. I feel MN isn't as good as it used to be.

BacktoworkonMonday · 17/12/2017 21:13

Zombie's threads. Heartrending but inspiring at the same time. An amazing lady.

paxillin · 17/12/2017 21:54

I'm surprised the CF threads are so popular, they are among my least favourite.

thecatfromjapan · 17/12/2017 21:58

I have to admit, this thread has been an eye-opener for me. I find the "CF" threads utterly hope-draining. Everything. The epithet "Cheeky Fucker". The life they depict. Everything. It makes me want to leave the planet.

thecatfromjapan · 17/12/2017 22:00

Sorry. That was a really buzz-kill post. I typed it before I could stop myself.

Please ignore. Obviously they bring joy to many.

elephantoverthehill · 17/12/2017 22:00

Woolly Hugs and the Allotment/Veg patch threads for me. I've had some great laughs on other threads, but those 2 are the ones that stand out for me and get me doing stuff apart from work.

EvilRingahBitch · 17/12/2017 22:14

Oh and I’ve just read Disgrace to The Y Chromosome’s thread about his DGS. Worth a nomination just for the gorgeous photos.

hazeyjane · 17/12/2017 22:37

catfromjapan - not buzzkill at all. Quite comforting to see others don't like/really get the CF threads - like being at a party and catching someone's eye across the kitchen and swapping a little, 'what the fucks going on here?!' look.

I am just completely bemused by them. Is it cheeky fucker or creepy fucker?

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 17/12/2017 23:24

Westministenders.

Trump threads.

Woolly Hugs.

All worthy of national recognition, never mind an MN gong.

thecatfromjapan · 17/12/2017 23:27

p.m.ed you Hazey

SingaSong12 · 18/12/2017 00:03

Westminsteders and Trump threads have kept me amused and informed.

For humour I have three, all mentioned by PP

  • thread about Janet
  • current one in Style and Beauty mourning previous purchases
  • thread about the guest threatening to bring child to hen do.

Most heartwarming- Woolly hugs

Nyx1 · 18/12/2017 00:49

Nostalgia thread for me is Catthiefkeith locked out of her sister's and waiting in a tent.

Datun has been hugely helpful and informative and kept on being that way when I think many would have given up

CfNs - obvs the patio doors.

TheDrsDocMartens · 18/12/2017 03:11

CF have turned into too many Hmm threads.

I’m mainly on TV threads but the Strictly thread this year has been great, particularly the random crossovers with Blue Planet too.

paxillin · 18/12/2017 08:49

Not a thread, but I am fond of the Gin and the Glitterball. Haven't yet found many uses for the glitterball, but instinctively approve anyway. I like the new @ function and am glad to see the back of user432187654 and her friend user876543210. I never could tell them apart.

TwitterQueen1 · 18/12/2017 10:27

I second Thymeout's nomination of WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo. This thread is keeping me sane.

TwitterQueen1 · 18/12/2017 10:30

'This thread' being the cancer support one here

sandymumsnet · 18/12/2017 11:25

Hello,

We love all your brilliant thoughts and suggestions so far - please keep them coming! Thanks to everyone who've posted a link to their nominated threads so that we can all revisit and enjoy. Flowers

bluewoollyhat · 18/12/2017 11:32

Thread of the year

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3108929-a-letter-to-the-woman-who-called-me-a-terf

And poster of the year has to be datun - for services to women

paxillin · 18/12/2017 11:55

This one is a fun read: Iceland can fuck off

paxillin · 18/12/2017 11:56

And of course Does Finland exist?

therealposieparker · 18/12/2017 12:27

I am Spartacus

PurplePillowCase · 18/12/2017 12:36

Westministenders threads.
very informative
