Hello, you. Well, 2017 has been a corker of a year for Talk threads at Mumsnet. The constant flurry of brilliant threads you've posted on the boards has kept us enthralled all year. We've laughed, we've cried, we've sat, mouths agape, while our tea went cold as we followed your stories.

Mumsnetters never fail to delight with their wit, wisdom, endless support and clever rhetoric and this year we'd like to celebrate that.

Just to nudge the memory banks we thought we'd share these two beauties from Mumsnet Classics.

Help. Epic hotel choice failure - the one where two esteemed Mumsnetters discovered each other, at the same dire hotel, via this thread, and later painted the town red.

My foof is buzzing- the one with the sentences you never thought you'd write (as well as vaginas with the voice of Brian Blessed and discussion of Banjo Fanjo Syndrome in the 'lady of a certain age').

Those were just a couple of our favourites but we would love to hear about the threads you loved most this year. Please post a link below and tell us a bit about why the thread in question was one that stands out for you.

They don't have to be funny - we're also looking for threads that were tear-jerkers, had happy endings, kept you scrolling into the small hours or were just plain lovely.

You can pluck your nominations from any topic but here are the categories we've come up with so far - if you think we've missed a category, please do feel free to suggest one of your own. Before anyone asks - we're afraid we won't be handing out mugs for any troll threads (nope, not even the ones that were a tiny bit funny). We can't have MNHQ mugs in hairy hands - perish the thought:

Cheeky Fucker thread of the year
Best AIBU
Feel-good thread of the year
Most outrageous thread of the year
Most nostalgic thread of the year
Most memorable moment of the year
Outstanding moment of Mumsnetter kindness on a thread

We can't wait to hear your nominations. We will have a scrat in the office cupboard and dig out some (much coveted) MNHQ mugs for each winning OP (or significant poster) of a Thread of the Year. And to show our appreciation we'll also find something else lovely from our Magic Cupboard for a selection of lucky people drawn at random who post on this thread to make a nomination. .

To celebrate the unique space that is Mumsnet Talk, MNHQ would love you to share your Threads of the Year!

I loved the lego card swap threads. People on them were so helpful and offered loads or cards they'd essentially paid for with their shopping for nothing. We sent some out and got letters back with all sorts of interesting postmarks and letters addressed to DS who was thrilled, with lego men drawn on etc. It just had a really nice feeling about them all. Real cameraderie.

Leslie knopes threads. Despite everything, she remembers everyone and is a source of comfort in the dark times

Alwaysinmyheart · 18/12/2017 17:58

I agree with nominating Datun, I always breathe a sigh of relief when she comes on a thread as she's so articulate and insightful!

bruffin · 18/12/2017 18:31

I dont think we should be nominating posters, think that goes against the point of anonymous forums.

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 18/12/2017 18:41

I would like to nominate the Trump threads who gave kept me better informed than even the news. In addition they were the reason why I took out a subscription to the New York Times early this year as my contribution to good journalism ( which I include the Trump thread as part of)

Like others I nominate the patio door CF as a gem.

SandAndSea · 18/12/2017 20:41

Three classic CF threads:

The one with Miss Jolly.
The one with the CF next door neighbours: 2 police officers and a nanny.
Another CF next door neighbour with the listed building, Spangran (with her paella) and the helpful shop owner.

The office fridge hogger gets my vote, it made me laugh and I was eager to see the next update, loved when others in the office got involved and that the CF didn't win!

MrsFrTedCrilly · 18/12/2017 23:03

The story of blue bunny made me cry in the best way possible Smile

YesThisIsMe · 18/12/2017 23:14

bunny for those who missed it at the beginning of the year.

YesThisIsMe · 18/12/2017 23:15

Buggered up the link.

Blue Bunny

One that springs to my mind, and I enjoyed (And agonised over the anticipation and waiting!) was the safe cracker thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2994829-Come-all-ye-Safe-Crackers-AIBU-to-move-without-opening-it
And here's the follow up:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3002124-KYLE-THE-SAFE-CRACKER-FANS-COME-THIS-WAY
Kept me on the edge of my seat! Xmas Grin

PerfumeIsAMessage · 19/12/2017 06:29

I would far rather the wonderful WH organizers, or Datun, or LeslieKnopes are acknowledged than the ridicuolous CF threads which are taking over (And most of which read like there's been a hefty dose of creative embellishment to keep the thread running) They all follow the same sitcom writing model now. It's as if posters read the "SpanGran" thing and try and emulate it.

Bah humbug etc.

It disturbs me to see people like Zombie, WH etc mentioned on the same thread.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 19/12/2017 09:02

Yes, BlueBunny was lovely. And YES, Datun, Knotty & Pistey way above the CF threads. All fantastic MNers.

NauticalDisaster · 19/12/2017 09:36

Hmm, the weekend thread that exposed a bereaved spouse of taking advantage of and lying to MNetters was a good one for knowledge and a reminder to sometimes look a little deeper.

The many FWR threads that continue to educate and inform me. The women on these threads are generous with their time and are genuinely engaging.

I was touched by the Zombie threads and the legacy in her name to provide blankets to those going through a similar fight.

And I really appreciate the humour on the other place that we're not allowed the mention. Without MN that little slice would not exist in all its lawless abandon.

boilingkettle · 19/12/2017 14:31

My first thought was Patio Doors and GEG, they are the two that have stayed with me. Really, who cares if it was real, Patio Doors was amazingly funny (especially when Vlad and Vanka got involved) and turned into a real community.
And I often think of NoCapes and GEG and wonder how they’re getting on. That thread was just lovely...

2017SoFarSoGood · 19/12/2017 19:46

Being a very small insignificant participant in Zombie's last threads was amazing and quite an honor. I have the highest regard for the MN'ers who were true friends of hers, and gave of themselves until the bitter end.

Woolly Hugs deserves all honors. The work they do is incredible. It is truly the best of this forum.

choccybiscuit · 19/12/2017 20:26

The one with the acquaintance was invited to a colleague wedding and the bride asked her to reconsider her present to her.
The one where a lady needed a lift home from the hospital and she had no one to pick her up. A mnetter came to the rescue.

usedtogotomars · 19/12/2017 20:49

Could I also vote for Woolly Hugs, please? Utterly beautiful, and I’m not just talking about the blankets Smile

annandale · 19/12/2017 20:51

They don't fit into the categories given but I'm another one voting for the Westminstenders and the Trump threads. They've given MN a new dimension and they may have started in 2016 but the fact that they're both still going well over a year later is pretty good.

NotAgainYoda · 19/12/2017 20:56

With the very big exception of the Feminism Chat section, and the Trump threads it has not been a vintage year.

gingerbreadmam · 19/12/2017 21:34

Can't remember the thread titles but the work fridge thief was very entertaining.

NearlyChristmasNow · 19/12/2017 23:00

Another vote for RedToothBrush's Westminstenders threads

PerfumeIsAMessage · 20/12/2017 06:09

"Who cares if they're real?" Confused Is that a serious question?

HQ for a start. Otherwise they're internet trolls. If I want good fiction I open a book, not engage with some creative writer on MN.

HebenotafraidMumsnet · 20/12/2017 12:56

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks. Do keep them coming. We're enjoying looking back over your favourite threads and will announce winners in the new year, so you've still got time to make nominations over the next week or so.
