Hello, you. Well, 2017 has been a corker of a year for Talk threads at Mumsnet. The constant flurry of brilliant threads you've posted on the boards has kept us enthralled all year. We've laughed, we've cried, we've sat, mouths agape, while our tea went cold as we followed your stories.

Mumsnetters never fail to delight with their wit, wisdom, endless support and clever rhetoric and this year we'd like to celebrate that.

Just to nudge the memory banks we thought we'd share these two beauties from Mumsnet Classics.

Help. Epic hotel choice failure - the one where two esteemed Mumsnetters discovered each other, at the same dire hotel, via this thread, and later painted the town red.

My foof is buzzing- the one with the sentences you never thought you'd write (as well as vaginas with the voice of Brian Blessed and discussion of Banjo Fanjo Syndrome in the 'lady of a certain age').

Those were just a couple of our favourites but we would love to hear about the threads you loved most this year. Please post a link below and tell us a bit about why the thread in question was one that stands out for you.

They don't have to be funny - we're also looking for threads that were tear-jerkers, had happy endings, kept you scrolling into the small hours or were just plain lovely.

You can pluck your nominations from any topic but here are the categories we've come up with so far - if you think we've missed a category, please do feel free to suggest one of your own. Before anyone asks - we're afraid we won't be handing out mugs for any troll threads (nope, not even the ones that were a tiny bit funny). We can't have MNHQ mugs in hairy hands - perish the thought:

Cheeky Fucker thread of the year
Best AIBU
Feel-good thread of the year
Most outrageous thread of the year
Most nostalgic thread of the year
Most memorable moment of the year
Outstanding moment of Mumsnetter kindness on a thread

We can't wait to hear your nominations. We will have a scrat in the office cupboard and dig out some (much coveted) MNHQ mugs for each winning OP (or significant poster) of a Thread of the Year. And to show our appreciation we'll also find something else lovely from our Magic Cupboard for a selection of lucky people drawn at random who post on this thread to make a nomination. .

To celebrate the unique space that is Mumsnet Talk, MNHQ would love you to share your Threads of the Year!

HORSE RIDERS PICK UP POO

The comments on this are fantastic.

BIWI · 29/12/2017 15:15

You see, this is a great example of how MN has changed. That thread is awful!

I'd seen it in active but hadn't bothered to read it. Seeing it linked here, I thought maybe it was particularly funny. But no. It's argumentative, sneery and generally unpleasant.

Aridane · 29/12/2017 15:50

I thought the horse riding thread unpleasant, full of a lot of shitty and cuntish comments. Some of the worse comments have been deleted.

lizzy5175 · 29/12/2017 16:35

Wooly hugs
Somerville and Mr. Lovely, their wedding and their baby!!!
GEG and Nocapes

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/12/2017 16:52

I'm am really enjoying the fact that the original suggestions from MNHQ were all fluffy, amusing tosh and instead we have loads of people nominating politics and feminism threads. This is what really constitutes the best of Mumsnet.

Exactly. Funny as the CFs & the jokey fluffy stuff are, can't we celebrate the long-term multiple threads about things that really matter? The insights of the Westminstenders & Trump threads. The real difference MNers are making in the campaign against the amendments to the Gender Recognition Act. And the amazing work done by Woolly Hugs.

affectionincoldclimate · 29/12/2017 17:49

So many CFs, so little time

The one about a woman who wanted to bring her toddler to a hen do -Todzilla?

The one about a neighbour who thought a playground in OPs garden was to be used by his family like a public park space and had the gall to phone planning office to complain. OP worked in the planning office Grin

And of course Flexi Time CF and her coffee flinging mother

ButteredScone · 29/12/2017 18:15

Best threads of 2017

  • the one where everyone discussed their favourite mug
  • the one where we discussed our favourite tea towel

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3124702-Minuscule-Acts-of-Vindictiveness?msgid=74403472

There are about 180 posts so far, of which about 140 made me laugh, some of them so hard my cheeks hurt.

BIWI · 30/12/2017 13:50

Dear God. Please, please, please don't go for that one, MNHQ.

Some of the posts on there are shockingly puerile and others just downright nasty.

Aridane · 30/12/2017 13:53

Second BIWI - that’s really not a very nice thread

DoculamentDoculament · 30/12/2017 14:00

God no to the vindictive thread. Disturbing.

Lweji · 30/12/2017 14:04

God no to the vindictive thread. Disturbing.

Indeed.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/12/2017 15:03

I am so pleased to see the Westminstenders, Trump and Woolly hugs threads etc being nominated over and over. I agree these are the threads we should celebrate as well as the ones where groups of people going through similar things band together to support each other, of which there are many. These are the threads that keep me on mn, rather than drifting away.

They so outweigh the CF threads and the threads that some think are hilarious but are actually people dressing up meanness as humour. There are still some funny threads on mn, but in general not the ones mentioned here.

hashtagelfie · 30/12/2017 15:32

Not read the full thread but what about Bear? The one where the OP's dp and his ex shared custody of Bear (a teddy) and there was a disagreement about holiday access? That bear was incredible

TheHeraldOfAndraste · 30/12/2017 17:28

Absolutely not the CF threads. They are the nadir of MN and should not be feted. If creative fiction is your thing Fanfiction.net and Archive of our own have better range. Tbh I don't think this is a year that MN should be congratulating themselves over.

But the Trump threads and the Westministenders ones have been brilliantly informative. Ditto OYBBK and her weather threads. Woolly hugs have always been wonderful. For lightheartedness I like the Parisian threads on S&B.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 30/12/2017 23:07

Woolly Hugs for me. In particular the Candy’s Hug threads and project.

Absolutely not the CF threads (I support a separate section for those so I can hide them). Most of all not the minor vindictiveness one from today, some of the posters on that should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

todgerthedodger · 31/12/2017 07:08

The Trump threads. Makes me realise I'm not alone with my opinion in this madness of an administration.

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 31/12/2017 11:08

Woolly Hugs please. Such amazing work that they do.

leccybill · 31/12/2017 14:20

Ugh,made-up CF threads make me cringe myself inside out. I thought we were a bit above all that frippery.

I nominate noblegiraffe for services to the Staffroom, first being given armed with the facts and the straight-talking voice of education.

I also love the supportiveness of S&B, there's zero unkindness and that makes a pleasant change from the rest of MN and indeed real life.

I've enjoyed the politics threads, Brexit threads and Trump. Are MNHQ surprised to find out many of us come here to learn about things?

Aridane · 31/12/2017 15:45

Oh good - the vindictive thread has been deleted

OhYouBadBadKitten · 31/12/2017 15:57

Hear Hear with regards to Noblegiraffe :)

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/01/2018 10:53

So when are the awards being announced @MNHQ?

SophieLMumsnet · 03/01/2018 12:27

Happy New Year to everyone. Grin

Cor, what a great bunch of threads - thanks for all the nominations, folks, it was quite the year, wasn't it... Wink

As popular demand would have it, we're going to switch the categories up a wee bit - but without further ado, we're here to announce the winning 'Threads of the year'...

AIBU thread(s) of the year, by a landslide, goes to the almighty CFN series - we hope all is well for you, Watty - thanks for the brilliant threads, we enjoyed every second!

Cockles were warmed as the powers of MN were harnessed to find Floffel, winning Christmas and our Feel Good thread of the year. Definitely what Mumsnet is all about and the entire MNHQ office was reading with delight.

SHELL! In your HEAD? You were all outraged by the tastic lippy in the washing machine thread which has duly won the Outrageous category.

Straight to Classics went this epic feline journey from Durham to Devon, you can follow The Life of Heidi, adventure cat extraordinaire here.

There have been many memorable moments over the past year - but as it's the people that really make Mumsnet the community it is, the winner of Services to Mumsnet with a huge number of votes goes to RedToothBrush for the fantastic Westministenders threads. and to Knotty and Pistey, whose wonderful Woolly Hugs have given comfort to many Mumsnetters going through difficult times - their services are so appreciated.

We'll be sending prizes out to the nominees - we'll be in touch by PM for further info!

Finally, but certainly not least - we'd like to raise a glass in memory of Zombie and CTK. Two amazing Mumsnetters who gave so much and will not be forgotten. Here's to you both Wine

Gatekeeper · 03/01/2018 12:49

Oh my goodness

I'VE WON A MUMSNET MUG!!!!!!!!!!

BoreOfWhabylon · 03/01/2018 13:04

Congratulations! Grin

And congratulations to all the winners
