Hello, you. Well, 2017 has been a corker of a year for Talk threads at Mumsnet. The constant flurry of brilliant threads you've posted on the boards has kept us enthralled all year. We've laughed, we've cried, we've sat, mouths agape, while our tea went cold as we followed your stories.

Mumsnetters never fail to delight with their wit, wisdom, endless support and clever rhetoric and this year we'd like to celebrate that.

Just to nudge the memory banks we thought we'd share these two beauties from Mumsnet Classics.

Help. Epic hotel choice failure - the one where two esteemed Mumsnetters discovered each other, at the same dire hotel, via this thread, and later painted the town red.

My foof is buzzing- the one with the sentences you never thought you'd write (as well as vaginas with the voice of Brian Blessed and discussion of Banjo Fanjo Syndrome in the 'lady of a certain age').

Those were just a couple of our favourites but we would love to hear about the threads you loved most this year. Please post a link below and tell us a bit about why the thread in question was one that stands out for you.

They don't have to be funny - we're also looking for threads that were tear-jerkers, had happy endings, kept you scrolling into the small hours or were just plain lovely.

You can pluck your nominations from any topic but here are the categories we've come up with so far - if you think we've missed a category, please do feel free to suggest one of your own. Before anyone asks - we're afraid we won't be handing out mugs for any troll threads (nope, not even the ones that were a tiny bit funny). We can't have MNHQ mugs in hairy hands - perish the thought:

Cheeky Fucker thread of the year
Best AIBU
Feel-good thread of the year
Most outrageous thread of the year
Most nostalgic thread of the year
Most memorable moment of the year
Outstanding moment of Mumsnetter kindness on a thread

We can't wait to hear your nominations. We will have a scrat in the office cupboard and dig out some (much coveted) MNHQ mugs for each winning OP (or significant poster) of a Thread of the Year. And to show our appreciation we'll also find something else lovely from our Magic Cupboard for a selection of lucky people drawn at random who post on this thread to make a nomination. .

To celebrate the unique space that is Mumsnet Talk, MNHQ would love you to share your Threads of the Year!

Woolly Hugs is truly special.

Another vote for the HOF advent calendar thread on S&B. Funniest thing I've read on MN this year Xmas Grin

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3108929-a-letter-to-the-woman-who-called-me-a-terf

This letter wins my thread of the year vote.

PortlyWino · 16/12/2017 19:30

Agree with Stink

KenForPM · 16/12/2017 19:34

The HOF Shitvent Calendar thread is amazing!!

EggysMom · 16/12/2017 19:37

Watty and the patio doors, as wonderfully described by a previous poster - I agree with everything this says:

Cheeky Fucker thread of the year, Best AIBU, Most outrageous thread of the year, and Most memorable moment of the year are all the patio door CFN saga, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3071713-CFN-patio-doors-sangria-ken-from-the-shop-update and the many threads before it.

hazeyjane · 16/12/2017 19:51

All the Woolly Hug threads
The original Spartacus threads

LordSugarWillSeeYouNow · 16/12/2017 23:12

Well we all know the most controversial Thread this year!

Just mention the letters D, C, J

This one had many of us overly invested, worried sick and then bam- it was like something from a movie, you couldn't make it up. I was unfortunately "involved" through no fault of my own and it almost stopped me from coming back on MN.

Well that's my nomination anyways...

HadronCollider · 16/12/2017 23:29

I second RedToothBrush and the Westminenderz threads simply brilliant. Journalists are getting paid a lot more to provide a lot less than the excellent brexit info and disscussion provided on those threads. The contributers are all brilliant. I lurk most days.

TheClaws · 17/12/2017 00:09

I also second the Trump threads that have been going since his campaign trail in 2016, through election and now as POTUS. The threads are respectful up-to-date information-sharing from a range of sources and discussion. Most posters have been there from day one!

OlennasWimple · 17/12/2017 00:14

Another vote for RedToothBrush's Westminstenders threads

Calyx72 · 17/12/2017 00:47

Westminstenders with Redtoothbrush and the rest. Keeping me updated and sane

laudanum · 17/12/2017 02:35

Sporners I need you! My vadge is ruined!

Painful growths in delicate areas with hilarious responses.

RunsforCake14 · 17/12/2017 07:53

I nominate the "taking a break from dating" thread and Biddylee's helpful advice and links for support. And the general dating thread currently at 125 and going strong.
They're keeping us all going especially at this time of year when everyone seems to be in a couple.

exLtEveDallas · 17/12/2017 09:24

I've just done a search of my owns posts from 1 Jan 17. There was a time when I wouldn't be able to do that; I'd hit the magical 500 in less than 6 months, now I get less than 200 in a year Sad

Partly due to all the GFs and troll treads. Partly due to all the snarking over posters than don't name change. I miss my friends on here - chased off by people that hate MN but can't stop posting on or about it.

To that end, I couldn't post a specific thread, so I'll go for subjects:

The weather threads - posts by OYBBK and Gloria that keep us in the know.

The Woolly Hugs threads and the emotion that goes into the blankets.

The Feminism Boards and all the strong, critical, sensible women within. I seem to have become more 'radical' the older I have become, and between you all and Twitter I am managing to stay sane!

Zombie and the Phlanx threads from when she was still alive. Such strength and sense of character. She'd have hated all the back biting that goes on now.

The politcal threads for education beyond what the news tells us about Trump/Brexit/Benefit and Health Cuts. I have learned so much from them.

It's a lovely idea HQ, but I doubt you'll get what you wanted from it. Some things have gone forever.

Rachel0Greep · 17/12/2017 10:47

I'm intrigued @MNHQ to know what threads kept you enthralled, letting your tea go cold and so on. Genuinely intrigued.
I can't say I have considered it 'a corker of a year' for MN.

Giggorata · 17/12/2017 11:49

For me, it's the recent “Anyone want to come and mourn the reality vs expectation of new purchases with me?” thread; it has made me howl. Mumsnet at its best

HawkeyeInConfusion · 17/12/2017 13:01

Another vote for Woolly Hugs.

ClashCityRocker · 17/12/2017 13:23

RedToothBrush and the Westministenders threads for me.

80sMum · 17/12/2017 15:30

Regardless of whether or not it was true, the thread that I found most entertaining was the one about the neighbours who had no garden but who had a patio door installed that opened onto the OP's garden!! The resulting suggestions of what the OP could do with that part of the garden were very amusing.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 17/12/2017 15:59

I'd like to nominate 2 if I may.

  1. The cat Heidi who got rehomed from a Mumsnetter in Durham(?) to a Mumsnetter in Devon - that was pretty awesome.
  1. A very recent one about a little girl's missing toy called Floffel.

🎄

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 17/12/2017 16:16

Call me shallow (or cowardly as I no longer find MN as kind a place as it was in my yoof) but I absolutely love the two threads (so far) on being more Parisian in S and B. Beautifully researched and written posts by Botemp full of practical advice on making the best of yourself. It’s had a surprisingly uplifting effect on my mental health though possibly not my bank balance.

bruffin · 17/12/2017 16:23

It was never that kind, its just changed who its kind too.
