FWR split continued

We have decided to start a new thread about this as the other thread was near capacity and taking a while to load.

Here is Justine's post from earlier on

We can give a Radical Feminism topic a go if that's what people want and see if it works. Obviously we need to be crystal clear that no one is obliged to post in one particular place and no one should feel excluded from any topic but we could test it out, and see if it helps resolve tensions. We'll do that in the next few days.

There are a couple of other things to think about as well.

First, those who come onto FWR to derail and inflame. We acknowledge that we have been too slow in the past to spot these posters for what they were. We're sorry about that and hope we're a lot quicker at dealing with them now. We're all for opinions but we do draw the line at posters whose only obvious intent is to goad.

And secondly, this idea that FWR can be an unwelcoming place to those who aren't following the 'party line'. Judging by posts on recent threads and by our inbox this is a view of a significant number of Mumsnetters and obviously that's not a healthy situation. Mumsnet is a place for discussion and for diverse opinion and it's the exchange of ideas and tolerance of differing opinions that makes it the board it is.

We do hope threads like this help to clear the air a bit and remind everyone that, whatever the differences of opinion, the FWR board will only ever be the stimulating, thought-provoking, enriching place we'd all like it to be if people feel that they can express themselves without being jumped on.

Please do continue to let us know your thoughts.

Anyway, it's a lovely day, so i'll leave you to your dudgeon and pity party and go and do something useful.

Bysie bye!

That link is BS.

MN is full to bursting with women who state their views bluntly and clearly.

The 'shutter downers' on this part of the board are those who say anybody who disagrees with their own extreme views is a misogynist.

Disagreeing and being impolite is of no consequence on MN.

VictorGollancz · 02/07/2012 09:07

Er, yes it is Morris. Sorry, you can't be expected to read this gargantuan thread but there have been plenty of people suggesting that any sort of disagreement is not permissible on the board.

And I'm sorry, but people are not routinely called misogynist or anti-feminist on FWR (even when the term is used it is about views and positions, not people). If anyone is reading this I urge them to go check out threads on the actual board and they will see for themselves that this is not true.

VictorGollancz · 02/07/2012 09:08

I think the last person to use the term 'anti-woman' on there was me! I was explaining that restricting access to abortion is anti-woman. Because it is. If anyone is going to take offence at that, or expect me not to say it, then we're going to have a pretty poor FWR board.

Hully, your comment about a 'pity party' is thoroughly unpleasant.

I don't think I will ever be able to read the acronym PARD again without making a face like this Hmm.

If you search for 'anti-woman' or 'misogynist' or 'MRA' on FWR you'll find yourself with lots of post in which people worry about being called any of those terms and very, very few instances in which the terms have actually been applied to either posts OR posters.

MorrisZapp · 02/07/2012 09:13

Victor, I agree that restricting access to abortion is anti women.

But I do not agree that it is misogynist to try to find solutions to the issue of gendercide in eg China etc. I was told that it was, and my questions further to that were stonewalled.

Morris, isn't that the premise of the whole furore? That being blunt, direct or dismissive f someone's ideas, which 'that link is BS' surely is, has ruined the FWR board for lots of people.

msrisotto · 02/07/2012 09:15

Stonewalled/disagreed with.

Beach (is this a brief window where I am allowed to address you? How exciting!). Two things:

  1. It is a pity party, wah wah poor us no one loves us. No - no one loves the insults thrown when the party line isn't followed.
  1. As you are leaving, you won't have to see it again and make that silly face. Problem solved.
Hullygully · 02/07/2012 09:17

People have said 50,000 times that they don't want the radfems t leave, they just want the insults to stop.

Gawd, this is sooooooooooooooo boring.

Round and roundn the mulberry bush.

Hullygully · 02/07/2012 09:19

Actually it would be a good torture weapon: death by incessant whining and deliberate misunderstanding.

Beachcomber · 02/07/2012 09:21

Hully - I really cannot be arsed.

I have lost patience with you.

Hullygully · 02/07/2012 09:21

Oh no!

However will I cope?

Hullygully · 02/07/2012 09:22

This just gets funnier and funnier and more and more absurd.

VictorGollancz · 02/07/2012 09:22

Morris: if you're views have been called 'misogynist' then go for it! Argue back! Make them justify why!

And yes, Hester has a point with your 'that link is BS'. Actually, I have no problem with you saying that - I would hope that the debate that ensues would be profitable for all.

If you can call something BS then someone else can call misogyny.

HesterBurnitall · 02/07/2012 09:23

I've found it more depressing than amusing.

Hullygully · 02/07/2012 09:25

It's been going on for so long, Hester, and nothing has ever changed or made the slightest bit of difference, that it has moved into the realms of the totally absurd to me.

Not absurd.

Horrifying.

I was genuinely concerned some of the stuff said last night.
