StewieGriffinsMom my dog would love them.

For a snack.

They are pretty cute though.

KatharineClifton · 08/11/2011 22:25

Degus are a bit like small squirrels or large gerbils. I bought 4 for the kids, 3 of the feckers were preggers. And they stank. Awful mistake. Huge!

nenevomito · 08/11/2011 22:26

Thats good to know KatherineC as my DH was eyeing up the Degu's and now I can warn him off.

Blatherskite · 08/11/2011 22:27

Grin at "Small-Rock-On-A-String Section" We need one of those definitely.

I'd love to see the secret forum but ABF has made it seem very time consuming to find and I CBA so I'm off to bed instead

ColdSancerre · 08/11/2011 22:27

Would my cat like a degu? I've often thought they'd like a chinchilla.

Have got to about page 27 and skipped the last 10 and it all seems a bit jokey about tortoises now Grin

However I feel like I have stepped into another site with all the handwringing and angst about how the DH has "got to change" (presumably said in deep tones with a bit of head nodding and nose tapping) - this surely is not MNHQ who seem to put up with the most appalling behaviour off so many in different parts of the board.

I am astounded than MNHQ are picking on a tiny bit of the forum that hardly anyone enters and before you all jump on that by saying it's because it's unfriendly - the majority of posts are nice/funny and are allways frequented by the same handful of posters and I absolutely refuse to believe that there are many that are DESPERATE to post but feel they can't - load of old rubbish, it is simply not a busy part of the board. YET MNHQ are desperate to persecute it and demand change but almost scared to tackle other parts of the board and the the only explanation I can come up with is that the DH is an easy target because there are so few people to target.

Imagine if they tried to deal with AIBU which they really should, the behaviour on there is completely shocking at times, however the outcry would be 100 fold.

Disgraceful behaviour, absolutely disgraceful. People being accused of bullying but his whole episode/thread/discussion is bullying at it's worse and to a person who cannot defend herself. There are also some very obvious newish members who have a particular axe to grind, I recognise a few that have been on the receiving end of NOT JUST DBF's opinion throwing the knife in and yet MNHQ are blundering on supporting them.

In the six months I have been on the DH on a daily basis I can honestly say only the complete and utter ignorant have been told directly but not abusive way what they should do and those posts have been few and far between, yet in all other parts of the board members feel they can be direct/passionate/abusive about peoples behaviour and that's okay.

I have no affiliation with DBF, it's just the complete and utter unjustness, unfairness, bullying, self righteous behaviour over this that I can't stomach.

A Chinchilla with ice?

Sounds like a cocktail.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 08/11/2011 22:29

Shock at spotting chick on the other thread

I certainly havent kept it open and refreshed in another tab, just to be nosy...

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 08/11/2011 22:29

Was it the palma violet Ursula?

reelingintheyears · 08/11/2011 22:30

Spamspamspam

Blah blah blah.

UrsulaBonfirey · 08/11/2011 22:33

It was. You just made it sound so sexy

Xiaoxiong · 08/11/2011 22:34

I think I have posted far too late on this whole shebang...but I just wanted to draw MNHQ's attention to a blog that has the most effective comment and discussion board policing I've seen anywhere on the internet - it belongs to Ta-Nehisi Coates, a writer for the Atlantic Monthly in the US.

He's very very active with deleting comments but when he does he always replaces the text of the comment with a statement why, eg. "Deleted - no personal attacks please" or "Deleted - you've made your point, you'll have to agree to disagree. Other posters, do not reply to this or your comment will be deleted as well", or "It's your third warning, next time you're banned." or "You were warned that this would not be tolerated, please post somewhere else in future". It's very effective because he explains why the comment was deleted and it helps other posters got it clear in their minds what is acceptable and what's not.

Anyway, it's a method that seems to work well - more work for the moderator of course, but pays off in the long run.

Vaunda · 08/11/2011 22:38

THIS IS NOT MEANT TO WIND ANYONE UP.

I HAVE RESSURECTED MY OLD ACCOUNT WHICH PEOPLE SEEM TO THINK I WAS BANNED UNDER.

now I personally do not think DBF should have been banned for her comments to me, especially as I had left the thread and did not see them personally.

however IF she had been previously warned then my thread cannot be held responsible nor can I. I rarely if ever make personal attacks on people and have offered advice as well.

Someone linked to a thread where I asked DBF for help regarding a woman I know/knew on FB who was in need of rehoming her Staffy I don't understand the relevance of the link but hey ho.

Yes I do generally stay calm when faced with insults etc because at the end of the day when I post on here I am generally sounding off/venting - this doesn't mean I don't want advice nor that I don't listen to it, it just means that unlike many I probably use this site as a sounding board.

Sometimes my threads or rather my writing style is dramatic, its just the way i write. Apologies for this. I am not a drama queen, I seriously wish that you could see who I am as I am far from the person people read on here. OK I am opinionated - but then we all are to some extent this is what makes us individuals.

also I would like to make it clear my pup is still with me, I have not made a final decision on what to do, IF I do decide to rehome her the family I have in mind have been dog owners for years and recently had their dog who was 9yrs old pts due to ill health.

AND THIS BIT WILL CHEER NUMEROUS PEOPLE UP - THE REASON I RESSURECTED MY OLD ACCOUNT IS BECAUSE THELADYEVENSTAR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN BANNED ALTHOUGH I AM NOT SURE WHY AS I HAD LEFT THE THREAD AND NOT INSULTED OR PERSONALLY ATTACKED ANYONE.

On that note I shall sign out as I am sure this account will now be blocked by MNHQ - and I have NEVER recieved a warning once!!!

Spamspamspam · 08/11/2011 22:39

Reeling - blah blah blah - have you heard all this from me before then? Funny as this is the second post on the subject. The thread title is about DBF and her ban and I was commenting on.....drum roll........DBF and her ban!! How bizarre is that!

ColdSancerre · 08/11/2011 22:39

Yes Vaunda, but would prefer a degu or a tortoise?

TeWihara · 08/11/2011 22:40

Arf. Grin

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 08/11/2011 22:41

I wanted a tortoise. But their house thing cost £300, and they basically just move very slowly around in circles looking like the grandma from 'Dinosaurs'. So I didn't get one.

ColdSancerre · 08/11/2011 22:41

Although it has to be said 'I am not a drama queen'? Yes and I hate perfectly chilled dry white wine.

Vaunda · 08/11/2011 22:41

tortoise please!

actually no make that a degu

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 08/11/2011 22:42

I love wine

Vaunda · 08/11/2011 22:42

Cold do you? I would advise not drinking it then Wink

LeBOF · 08/11/2011 22:42

What is a degu? Is it like a ragu?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 08/11/2011 22:43

Vaunda, I would guess that MN wouldnt need to give a warning if they investigated and thought your posts were a tad troll-y.
Not necessarily my opinion btw, just a possible explanation for you?

KatharineClifton · 08/11/2011 22:43

babyheave - I think two in a cage in a teenagers bedroom would be great. 12 in my kitchen were not. They're not bad little creatures, and nobody else seemed to be repulsed by the smell, just me.
