SacreLao · 08/11/2011 00:07

Thank you Rhinestone didn't realise you can fill a thread up.

Shame there couldn't be a link to this thread in the last one, to keep them both together.

LineRunnerSaturnaliaCometh · 08/11/2011 00:08

Why would any fucker hate their name?

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 08/11/2011 00:08

Wait for it..............

Rhinestone · 08/11/2011 00:08

Er, I'll see if I can do that.....

Linking to thread one in case anyone misses it and wants to go back.

That was a strange comment from Justine as to AF hating their name?

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 08/11/2011 00:09

Yes it's probably time for me to hit the sack - am going loopy. Thanks everyone for your input and time.

notjustme · 08/11/2011 00:10

I love AF's name - it was such a breath of fresh air when I first joined this forum and realised 'yes, we can swear!!!'

wannabesybil · 08/11/2011 00:10

I hope this is a useful contribution.

I know that Mumsnet can be very direct, and that is fine, because it's meant to be. It is run in a particular way, for well thought out reasons and I don't have a problem with that. Because if I don't like it then I can just, you know, not come here. And I have found some useful information, and watched some very enjoyable bunfights. I have even posted here and there. I believe that there are some lovely, kind and helpful people on board.

Can I just point out, however, that if I was feeling particularly vulnerable I would NEVER come on here for help. I have seen other people get great help and support, but I have seen other vulnerable people ripped to pieces and I wouldn't take the risk.

The stuff I saw of DBF was quite direct, I have never gone to the Doghouse, but I don't suppose that it was particularly pink and fluffy. Mumsnet isn't pink and fluffy, and that's fine. However if you support the, 'say it as it is, tell it straight, call a fucker a fucker' philosophy then there can be a lot of collateral damage. I think this debate is getting into the 'how much collateral damage is okay' territory.

It's not my place to say what should or should not happen. I just lurk usually as I don't often feel I have anything to contribute. I just thought that the idea of collateral damage may be a useful addition to this debate.

(tried to post at the end of the last thread, where it may not have been noticed too much, but too slow so near the start of this)

auntiepicklebottom2 · 08/11/2011 00:11

i didn't even think it was possible to fill up a thread wow especially in around 4 hours on a monday night

LemonDifficult · 08/11/2011 00:11

Most of this is crazy.

She was warned
She kept doing it
She was warned some more
She kept doing it some more
She ... got the consequences

MN's a parenting website and everyone knows Parenting Rule A,1) is..... Never make a threat you won't carry out. So, MN banned DBF. They gave her fair warning but she didn't heed it. MNHQ know about counting to ten, OK?

I guess you can argue that their are more people who deserve warnings (how would we know they haven't had them?) but you can't argue that it's not OK to ban someone for carrying on in a way that they been told might lead to a banning.

I don't really get the fuss tbh. There are a ton of sites DBF where will be welcomed with open arms, so she won't be lonely or unappreciated elsewhere. And some people on this thread are almost implying that there is no-one else able to give good advice on dogs without her, which just isn't true. MN will still have people to offer good sense about dog ownership.

Storm in a water bowl.

AitchTwoOh · 08/11/2011 00:11

so are we really proposing the re-introduction of moderators to MN just because Valhalla cannot control her temper? where will that end?

BroomForMyChin · 08/11/2011 00:11

Stewie I started that thread, have I done something wrong? Confused

Tried to post on other thread but 'twas full.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 08/11/2011 00:11

Has the quote within a quote within a quote within a quote within a quote within a quote been tested to such extremes before?

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 08/11/2011 00:11

Thanks for responding Justine.

Can we please have DBF back ? Please ?

I can beg, y'know.......for Jellytots. Smile

Rhinestone · 08/11/2011 00:12

No, I couldn't put a link in the old one as it wasn't accepting new messages.

Thanks SacreLao for the link to the old one.

Yes Justine, what was that about AnyFucker's name? And have you reconsidered DBF's ban yet?

This is all moving very fast but someone mentioned DBF's response to the whelping thread and how awful it was so I had a look and it really was quite restrained.

OP posts:
MildlyNarkyPuffin · 08/11/2011 00:12

Yes, passion can become rudeness. Equally, people don't like being told that they're wrong.

Posters who have bought a dog and then want rid of it because they're having a baby so they don't need it anymore. Posters who don't like their animal's behaviour but can't be bothered to commit to the training required. People haven't neutered their pet because they want their children to get to see puppies being born.

On every other section of MN people criticize each other. They attack other people's parenting, decision making etc. Why are pets different? Smacking, BF/FF, even CC lead to huge amounts of truly rude, aggressive posts. They're left to stand and the posters aren't banned.

MrsDistinctlyMintyMonetarism · 08/11/2011 00:13

Justine posts in varying shades of Blue on my MN.

I did wonder if that was a political statement until i realised that shades of red would become pink and that would be too close to The Other Place.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 08/11/2011 00:14

Re. Justine's surprise that anyone might be cross about the comments on that thread:

Is it not ok to be cross?

First we're told that the trolls in the Feminism section are entitled to be there because they might be genuine, despite the rape jokes.

Then we're told personal attacks don't count if they're addressed to lots of people, only if they're addressed to one person. So attacks on 'feminists' don't count, because there are lots of us.

Then apparently it's not on to agree with any other poster in case you risk coming across as an 'orthodoxy' (no matter that you've disagreed violently on other threads).

And now it's really all our fault the trolls were there in the first place, and we're being punished for our nasty dislike of personal attacks addressed to 'feminists'.

What exactly do you want us to do? We've done the reporting of dodgy posts and the polite responses to questions that might be some stretch of the imagination be innocent. And apparently, we're still all deserving a big slap from HQ - why?!

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 08/11/2011 00:15

Justine

Is it because you hate your name but don't know how to ditch it after all these years?

That made me wince. Very bitchy and uncalled for wasn't it? Frankly, I find that far more of a personal attack than DBF calling TLES a liar.

so are we really proposing the re-introduction of moderators to MN

I didn't think so - more like fellow-posters who'd just say and try to keep things constructive I hope.

Rhinestone · 08/11/2011 00:16

I think that is the point that everyone is making. DBF is no different in her tone and style of posting to many of us on here.

The way she's possibly a little bit different to some is that she speaks from RL experience and puts her money and time where her mouth is. Some people are idiots and some of those people have dogs. Some of those people even post on Doghouse and get a flaming. No different to any other part of MN.
