Justine, that was a little topical joke, please don't ban me! Grin

i thought that's what we were supposed to do already?

AitchTwoOh · 08/11/2011 00:17

i do not recognise the MN you are all talking about... i'm off to bed, this is too depressing. [old gimmer]

GrimmaTheNome · 08/11/2011 00:17

DBF is no different in her tone and style of posting to many of us on here.
shhh...you'll be next on the hitlist....

DooinMeCleanin · 08/11/2011 00:18

Am I allowed to make personal attacks against my phone? T'is true. It's a bastard. It's always running out of batteries while I am at work leaving me MN-less

It's probably already been said but I would think DBF has helped far more posters than she has upset.

toboldlygo · 08/11/2011 00:18

Re: my last post in previous thread, I am by no means saying that the, erm, roasting culture (for want of a better term) in the doghouse is right, just trying to demonstrate why it happens. When people like DBF are handling the results of people's ignorance (and it is not hyperbole to say that this often involves bodies in bin bags) every day then I consider it pretty admirable to keep one's cool and continue rallying on instead of curling up into a ball and sobbing at the futility of it all.

FWIW I don't 'roast', or can't recall doing so, but still find myself trotting out the same phrases and dispelling the same myths over and over and over and ARGH.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 08/11/2011 00:18

I think that comment came across as snide too - AF's name? What's that to do with anything?

I expect Justine was just making a poorly-judged joke. But it did seem nasty, in the context. Sad

Tortington · 08/11/2011 00:20

can i get the abridged version please?

in one paragraph or less

PS there are still places left for mn xmas do in london

GrimmaTheNome · 08/11/2011 00:20

i thought that's what we were supposed to do already?
yes, but it doesn't always seem to work in DH at the mo. Partly of course because the most knowledgeable in some areas are also the most passionate.

LucyStone · 08/11/2011 00:20

Justine, you accuse us in feminism of being hostile, yet you've just flamed AF by stealth. I'm actually angry on AF's behalf. how could you deem that acceptable?

It's not what you say, it's HOW you say it.

That's all very well, but very hard to get across on a screen.

No-one can see your face, or see you smile or grimace, or see that you have been hurt, or that you are very annoyed.

Funny, people talk a lot about mumsnet is all just 'words on a screen'.

For a lot of us, it clearly isn't.

LemonDifficult · 08/11/2011 00:21

Some of those people even post on Doghouse and get a flaming. No different to any other part of MN.

But a flaming isn't really to be encouraged, is it? Also, I think the problem here is that when one posters voice is given a lot of credence on a particular subject, flamings from them (with others as back up) do have a habit of getting a bit more aggressive and bullying than they might have done if it was just between two evenly matched posters.

Grin at Grimma Yes, I know, that's why I thought I'd be all helpful and start a new thread.

Justine, some of us see the end result of dog-owning twattery on a daily basis. This is why some of us in the DH get pretty angry. As do some of the regulars in other sections. DBF - and Doghouse - seems to have been singled out.

Would like to register support of DBF. No, she's not the most fluffy poster in the world - and she was actually quite scathing to me on one of my threads recently (not about dogs) - but I don't hold that against her.

As a lurker on the DH, and as a rescuer of a beautiful dog from Many Tears, I fully support DBF stance on these topics. I didn't think the whelping thread was so bad - people do need to be told of the direct and indirect repercussions of backyard breeding/ buying pups etc. These things need saying - and it needs to be blunt. These things are not a matter of opinion - there are living, feeling creatures at risk here - and she is very often dealing with life or death situations, and she is not afraid to get her hands dirty, and get involved irl.

Please reinstate her - surely there's enough support now! And I love AF's name.

SacreLao · 08/11/2011 00:24

On top of that

TLES was out of order
TLES lied and contradicted herself all the way through the thread
DBF was trying to help
DBF wasn't actually that bad considering earlier posts and it wasn't a personal attack, I said a lot worse to TLES on that thread with no warning / banning.

SarahStratton · 08/11/2011 00:24

Justine never even made me Milk Monitor. Or Maverick Prefect. And I still have my prefects' badge from school. My Dad said it was my greatest achievement.

LucyStone · 08/11/2011 00:24

I'm not sure AF laughed. AF seemed pretty serious about being angry to me. responses should have been appropriate to that.

DooinMeCleanin · 08/11/2011 00:24

'DBF who has been banned before and warned about her behaviour flamed TLES with a nasty personal attack.' I disagree with this statement. DBF pulled TLES up on some untruths within the thread and had evidence to back this up. She didn't mince her words, no, but I don't think her 'attack' was as personal or nasty as a lot of the other posts on that thread by others and it didn't warrent a banning.

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 08/11/2011 00:25

Oh, Sarah

Made yours yet ?!

But you can tell someone to F the f off.......Hmm

LemonDifficult · 08/11/2011 00:28

'Justine, some of us see the end result of dog-owning twattery on a daily basis. This is why some of us in the DH get pretty angry. '

Well, don't. Just reign it in and consequently what you say will sound:

a) more engaging
b) more persuasive
c) more polite

In short, you will be more likely to WIN. Self-righteous spleen-venting soap-boxing on any topic is just plain irritating.
