How do you think it will go? Appreciate its only just been announced but gut instinct?

OP posts:
crossstitchingnana · 28/06/2022 14:55

Scotland will go. 😥

FloorWipes · 28/06/2022 15:02

I’m not convinced at this stage that a referendum will happen.

BinBandit · 28/06/2022 15:19

What, the pretendyref?

Only two outcomes. It's boycotted by non nationalists, Nationalists "win" but it's based on a turn out of about 25%. It's a non official ref anyway so means nothing - see catalonia.

Other outcome is that non nationalists don't boycot and nationalists lose - again. Plus It's a non official ref anyway so means nothing

  • see catalonia.

Opinion on yes/No hasn't changed since the last one despite Boris/Brexit etc.

BinBandit · 28/06/2022 15:20

There is no appetite for a ref at the moment even from Nationalists.

Seeingadistance · 28/06/2022 15:22

What referendum?

I’m in bed with Covid - just woken up.

What new hell is this now?

HirplesWithHaggis · 28/06/2022 16:42

Nicola announced this afternoon, 19 October next year.

BlueShoesKate · 28/06/2022 16:50

Nicola is hell bent on it, so we're in for a world of pain from today whether it happens or not.

Her ridiculous attempt at a historic speech today made me cringe. I'm assuming "Now Is The Time" flags are already being knocked up ready to go.

I'm sick of it.

cheeseandcrackers77 · 28/06/2022 17:05

I am fed up with it all and have been since 2014. Couldn't listen to her today. I was no in 2014 and I will vote no again if it goes ahead.

BinBandit · 28/06/2022 17:47

Have they released the legal opinion that they were refusing after the FOI request?

NowThatsWhatICall22 · 28/06/2022 18:00

What a performance today. Thanks to the FM for taking time out from her busy schedule as a pseudo world leader in Italy and for probably shifting her diary of zeitgeist podcast appearances around, to accommodate her appearance in parliament today. She delivered their biggest squirrel yet, which was mostly a strategic move by the Sturge with regards to her career and reputation. Look, see how the rest of the U.K. adores her for standing up to Boris, what a brave council leader she is and for anyone that thinks otherwise you deserve all the crap and division that is about to rain down on you.

It’s distracting from all the serious problems in Scotland right now, including today the news that again, Scotland has the highest deaths from drugs in Europe. Scotland’s shame.

They all just need to fuck off back get back to the day job, stop these ego-driven announcements about independence which appeases only the few who have frequent wet dreams about Robert The Bruce being slathered in Scotland’s oil and rolled in shortbread crumbs. The rest of us live and breathe in the real world.

Bravo! Also distracting from Billy Bunter still clinging onto the gravy bus.

It would be good for them to return to running the country, unfortunately there isn't one of them with the morals, integrity or competence to do that. <sit's and waits for the "ah but Boris">

BinBandit · 28/06/2022 18:08

Honestly the best thing to do is just to ignore it. #boycottpretendyref

HirplesWithHaggis · 28/06/2022 18:32

BinBandit · 28/06/2022 17:47

They've sent the Referendum Bill direct to the Supreme Court to ask if it's legal.

BinBandit · 28/06/2022 18:35

HirplesWithHaggis · 28/06/2022 18:32

Yes, DH just told me that. So they'll be hoping it's dismissed and then they can go on about how it's not fair and how they tried and the nasty English folk wouldn't let them. Then Nicola can hang on and kick the can a bit further down the road.

abc5432 · 28/06/2022 19:02

If the Supreme Court do not quosh it, a strong indication from the UK Government that it should be boycotted by those opposed to Separation should be given. We can then all ignore it. Watch the property market though in the meantime....

abc5432 · 28/06/2022 19:03

If the Supreme Court do not quosh it, a strong indication from the UK Government that it should be boycotted by those opposed to Separation should be given. We can then all ignore it. Watch the property market crash though in the meantime... watch also all inward investment of money and people into Scotland dry up.

2pinkginsplease · 28/06/2022 19:06

Voted No in the previous “once in a lifetime” vote and if this one happens will be voting no again!

abc5432 · 28/06/2022 19:06

So we had the economic crash of 2008, the Separation Ref in 2014, then the Brexit Referendum in 2016, then Covid in 2020, then Putin invaded the Ukraine and caused a cost of living crisis and now the SNP thinks it is a good time to divide families/friends/citizens all over again.

LoopyGremlin · 28/06/2022 19:22

I voted yes in the last one but would vote no in this one. I’m in favour of independence but I accept the result of 2014 and think we should adhere to the once in a generation.

greywinds · 28/06/2022 19:44

I can't understand why we have again a proposal for a pie in the sky vote not subject to a confirmatory referendum when the leave deal is known, why the SNP are aping Cameron's bungled and disastrous strategy.

Either way, a simple yes/no, 50/50 in the current economic circumstances is more division, more downsides.

The SNP cannot afford its current spending, it's overspent, and needs to raise taxes further and that's before indy costs. This is a distraction from the services cuts they already need to make.

Scottishskifun · 28/06/2022 20:07

I actually feel as downtrodden with this as I did the never ending covid rules!

I don't want 16 bloody months of this crap not to mention the cost when today's news for Scotland is:
Drugs deaths highest in Europe (again)
Deaths of babies is up in Scotland
Sex crime being reported in Scotland at 50 Yr high
Dentists getting less money to deal with backlog

I mean this is one day snapshot it's hardly a glowing report of the state of things in Scotland (all of which are under control of the Scottish govt.....)

BinBandit · 28/06/2022 20:31

Exactly. I had one dimwit on twitter the other day saying that the press weren't biased in favour of the SNP. The cornerstone of his argument was that they weren't publishing positive stories of SNP successes. 🤔🙄

herewego9 · 28/06/2022 20:35

I am so fed up of this and feel like we're living under a cloud. I voted yes last time
but would never again - I consider the 2014 result a lucky escape. It would be worse than Brexit for us.

Juniperberries25 · 28/06/2022 20:47

Isn't it going to be during the October holiday week?? 19th October?

MichelleScarn · 28/06/2022 20:49

I honestly don't think I could cope again with the hatred and sniping again. It made me feel quite unsafe at work. Union reps absolutely plastered in pro snp/independence badges and very very questioning about voting stance.
