How do you think it will go? Appreciate its only just been announced but gut instinct?

OP posts:
Juniperberries25 · 28/06/2022 21:28

They don't seem to have any answers yet regarding currency. It will be the same old arguments over and over.....with the Nats saying "oh we'll just keep the pound...." . Hardly true independence if you're tied to the interest rates set by the Bank of England.

GrouchyKiwi · 28/06/2022 21:37

I'm just exhausted by it all. Why the hell can't they focus on the immediate issues that actually matter to people's lives, instead of making things worse? Even the most optimistic had to admit that there would be an extremely difficult period financially in the event of a Yes vote. Why compound the very real problems we've all got now?

And, as someone from a small country, wanting to leave this a bigger union is stupid. (And no, there's no guarantee we'd get back into the EU. More likely not to.)

MichelleScarn · 28/06/2022 21:46

All the soc.media hip hip hurrahing seems to have started... 🙄 there will be lots of muting people I think from me!

BinBandit · 28/06/2022 21:47

You only have to look at that raggle taggle mob of complete morons from Saturday's march to make up your mind.

Sulusu · 28/06/2022 21:58

Been thinking about moving back to Scotland recently, but I won't be now that's for sure. I cannot live through 2014 again.

The uncertainty must really put off potential business and investments too.

Rae36 · 28/06/2022 22:26

The whole thing can just fuck right off. I have no time for it right now, I'm too busy trying to keep paying the bills and getting to work. I can't believe they think this is a priority. What a load of shite.

Fairisleflora · 28/06/2022 22:30

If you don’t want to hear about Indy at work, I’d recommend a job in financial services. No one working in the financial services I worked in last time would publicly admit to thinking independence was anything other than a disaster.

Agree. Those with any financial savvy said no fucking way.

Am nhs and it honestly nearly broke me last time. I suppose at least now the masks and goggles back in will hide my grimaces and eye rolls from all the Snp militants!

Supersee · 28/06/2022 23:14

I wish Nicola would just fuck off. I'm actually not against Independence completely as I hate being 'ruled' by buffoon Boris but not at the moment and not by this shit show that is the SNP. Add self ID nonsense to the list. Get your house in order first.

inhellyesterday · 28/06/2022 23:24

I don't think it's the right time, I agree with everyone on that. She could have waited a few more years. But I was a yes voter in 2014 and will be a yes voter in 2023. If it goes ahead (which I am secretly hoping it doesn't at this moment in time).

MichelleScarn · 28/06/2022 23:28

@inhellyesterday why vote yes if you don't really want it? Are you scared of being denounced by fellow snp voters?

Because I do want it eventually, in the long term and I believe this will be our very last chance. I will always regret it if I voted no. And anything is better than being ruled by the fucking tories. No matter how badly this might go.

MichelleScarn · 28/06/2022 23:36

Apologies @inhellyesterday to direct all this at you! But
-what currency will independent Scotland use?
-what will happen with all the RAF and Royal and Mercant Navy, Marines and Army based up here, and Scottish people serving with them?

  • how will we access specialists such as Great Ormond St in future?
HarvestFly · 29/06/2022 00:21

@MichelleScarn report this to HR every. Single. Time.
I don't know where you are but nhs Lothian had a strict policy about this at the last referendum.

Celia24 · 29/06/2022 00:23

LoopyGremlin · 28/06/2022 19:22

I voted yes in the last one but would vote no in this one. I’m in favour of independence but I accept the result of 2014 and think we should adhere to the once in a generation.

In favour but would vote no. Makes total sense. Circumstances have changed.

greywinds · 29/06/2022 07:08

I can't see why Scotland can't wait until it is in surplus and balancing its books again personally. Indy requires high start up costs, can absolutely be worse than the tories - can lead to a flight of capital and high earners if not done carefully, and savage cuts. Euro membership has tough fiscal criteria that must be met too.

Anyway, must get on with RL, not a lot more to be said before the Supreme Court outcome.

Juniperberries25 · 29/06/2022 07:43

I think Sturgeon got a lot of backlash from her followers for attending the Jubilee especially as she was photographed holding a Union Flag. She is trying to win them back by announcing Indyref2. That plus Partygate spurred her on. Think she is getting desperate now.

Report what? She says she’s grimacing and eye rolling.

Scottishskifun · 29/06/2022 08:01

@SheWoreYellow many work places have rules in contracts about political canvassing during work hours. In addition everyone has the right not to feel intimidated at work. If someone does because of reps wearing banners and the way they behave that is of course a HR reportable activity. No eye rolling required and that's for both sides of the argument surely you can see that

Fupoffyagrasshole · 29/06/2022 08:02

Finally Scotland can have their country back. About time

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 29/06/2022 08:03

Living through the last one was awful but at least was consoled by the fact it was ‘once in a lifetime’. Seems it wasn’t once in a lifetime despite no advances in clarity re currency, access to specialist medical facilities outside of Scotland etc etc The Scottish government is not doing a good job with issues it is fully responsible for now so heaven knows how they would manage with more! I cannot stand Boris but even that doesn’t sway me towards a yes vote!

MichelleScarn · 29/06/2022 08:04

@SheWoreYellow I'm grimacing and eyerolling at the 'all hail Queen Nicola' diatribes against anyone who wasn't fervently snp flag flying, pin badge wearing 'fuck the English' zealots. (Bizarrely its always just fuck the English isn't it no other nation). Getting the 'oh your dp is English Michelle hahaha no offence but can't wait till they all fuck off and stop oppressing us'.
This was initiated because I declined a yes car sticker, and later a 48%er one from someone else!

wigywhoo · 29/06/2022 08:12

English person here, this will run and run until the bats get their independence. I say let them go, make Scotland like the Isle of Man, maintain just top level constitutional links, complete domestic autonomy in exchange for defence which is linked to the Crown, not parliament. See how you get on, with a way back in a few generations (proper generations, 50 years
