Maybe it would explain when you get your child's report from school and it has the wrong name or says she instead of he...

I'm sure most teachers must also think this is bonkers?

Mango1982 · 17/08/2021 20:15

I think the plan is to covertly cal the child by he and use a chosen name only at school then revert back to she and the original name in front of parents

It’s about safeguarding and over reach basic safeguarding is you always include parents don’t encourage children to keep secrets and changing a child’s name with out parents consent even informally 🤷‍♀️
Seems her in holyrod determined to ride the trains train to its destination

Remember when one of the SMPs took a drag queen into one of the primary schools parents only realised when drag queen took pictures of the children with out consent and plastered it all over their Instagram

I think it's both ludicrous and overstepping the mark and the children will either be completely confused or pulled into a keeping secrets thing which is dangerous for all involved.

It's almost like no-one has any fucking brains {sarcastic emoji}

If it's not about covid or trans issues then ScotGov really aren't interested are they?

Always come back to this: “Different upbringings produce different people. The first thing that a totalitarian regime tries to do is to get at the children, to distance them from the subversive, varied influences of their families, and indoctrinate them in their rulers’ view of the world. Within limits, families must be left to bring up their children in their own way.”

That's a quote from the judge in the ruling on named persons.

ElephantOfRisk · 18/08/2021 11:04

Jeez, does it need a 71 page document? Surely it needs one page that just says, treat everyone with kindness and respect regardless of age/sex/gender/sexual identity or whatever?

Beepbeeprichie · 18/08/2021 12:21

They didn’t learn.. or they just don’t care. No amount of meddling or screw ups seems to diminish support for this regime at the ballot box. Many teachers continue to proudly support the SNP. Until they feel some pain in the polls then this additional control without additional benefit will continue (see also alcohol minimum pricing and increase in income tax rates).

roxyk0303 · 18/08/2021 12:24

Blame the idiots who keep voting for the bloody SNP!!

TheCanyon · 18/08/2021 12:45

What a batshit idea.

It's clear that they are not going to deliver on indy for those who support it and i'm bewildered as to why anyone would vote for them on their performance which has been universally shit. The only positive you could say is that they have at least been consistent, consistently shite.

It’s only going to get worse now they’re going to be in tow with the lunatic fringe that is the Greens.

And taking every chance to seize more powers while the deficit soars; education fails; drug and alcohol deaths surge; and the streets are filthy with litter in the big cities.

Meanwhile, they focus on this dangerous ideology with young and vulnerable children.

The mind boggles as to who would vote for this.

Y0uCann0tBeSer10us · 18/08/2021 13:34

I know it's perhaps a controversial thing to say, but I genuinely think that the people making these policy decisions have little real-life experience of having children. We saw it with school and nursery closures last year when it needed to be explained to ministers that you can't work from home with toddlers around, and still they unlike all the other UK nations shut down nursery provision in January despite the very very low risks. They are the only ones to keep children in masks on returning to school, and seem to have little understanding/concern about the effect this will have on education. And now, they seem to have no understanding that younger children might experiment with gender roles but have no real understanding of the wider implications, and are also quite literal and impressionable at that age. Anyone with small children could have told them this. It will at best confuse a four year old to be told that you can choose to change sex, and at worst will set them down a dangerous path of treatments with life long effects as they struggle to "fit in". Even more so if they're told that this will be their 'little secret' and there's no need to tell Mum and Dad. How is this not a clear breach of safeguarding?? It's as though they have literally only consulted Stonewall and mermaids who will no doubt have a story about little Stevie who knew he was girl from toddler age, called this 'consultation' and pressed ahead all smug about how "progressive" they are.

OMG that is a really good point about keeping secrets. So are teachers NEver paedophiles? So keeping secrets with teachers that the child is warned that parents aren't to know about is good - they've gone too far. I will email my useless MP to complain.

Whirlywooo · 18/08/2021 13:52

I'm a teacher but not in Scotland, thank goodness. On any given day, a 4 year old may be a tree, a cow, a superhero, a chameleon. What pronouns do I use then?! World's gone mad.

charliebrown59 · 18/08/2021 13:59

Exactly younger primary aged kids are encouraged to take flights of fancy - this not quite the ones I had in mind though.

charliebrown59 · 18/08/2021 14:00

all this stuff is teaching them to over identify their gender early, rather than encouraging inclusion and being yourself.

Mhari Black is a whiny, foul mouthed , nasty piece of work , an embarrassment to Scotland who called her own constituents “ Jeremy Hunts” for questioning her behaviour.
ElephantOfRisk · 18/08/2021 14:03

It's not even the risk that a teacher might be a paedophile (which is probably really really tiny), it normalises secret keeping between adults and children and some of those other adults might choose to cause them harm. It also puts teachers in a vulnerable position in terms of accusations if it's accepted that they keep secrets from a child's parent or guardian. Open relationships with parents are key in all but a few circumstances.

WouldBeGood · 18/08/2021 14:04

I think they are massively out of touch with ordinary, normal people.

As said too by the GMB guy recently about what they said about the Glasgow bins: blaming constituents 🤷🏻‍♀️

KittenKong · 18/08/2021 14:06

What’s happened to all the Scots mams? My mum and grandma (from the NE but honorary Scots) would have been down at the school, absolutely blazing if this happened to one of us (which I can assure you it would have been for one sibling).

Tuscancat · 18/08/2021 14:06

What happened with the named persons fiasco? Interested southerner.

ElephantOfRisk · 18/08/2021 14:06

yep, rather than just allow kids to be any kind of boy or girl they are, there seems to be this encouragement for them to box themselves into a never ending stream of categories.

So instead of answering the question about why tommy is playing with dolls with "dolls are for anyone to play with" they decide that tommy actually wants to be a girl and explore that with him instead.

Rhannion · 18/08/2021 14:08

Please take a stand for the rights of women and children in Scotland by joining the rally on September 2nd at the Parliament building.
The situation is beyond any political parties loyalty, and more important than the independence question.
I think this government are not fit for purpose, unfortunately frankly neither are the other parties, but we must use our voices to let all of the “parcel ‘o rogues in the nation” how we feel.

It got binned because of legal challenge (mainly data protection I think). See quote from the judge that threw it out above (4th post).

Absolutely. We've always told our that there are no 'girl's toys' or 'boy's toys', there are only 'toys' and anyone can play with anything (as long as it's age appropriate. I've always made this clear to nursery when we fill in those 'all about me' type forms, and that we are very keen to avoid gender stereotypes. I'll be pretty pissed off if this is undone in school by indulging the 'girls like princesses and boys like robots' type nonsense that my older one comes out with (and is swiftly shut down I might add!)
