Rangers fans celebrating in a pandemic

No social distancing at all, few masks in sight. Apparently at least 1000 outside ibrox , hundreds in George square.

Total superspreader events, even outside. The new viruses are much easier to catch.

Bloody great.

It's a total disgrace.

Igotjelly · 07/03/2021 19:09

My husband and I are Rangers fans and are celebrating with a chinese takeaway and a few beers. Makes me so angry seeing all these absolute idiots. It simply cant end well.

Redglitter · 07/03/2021 19:11

Photos online are a disgrace. Shower of fucking inconsiderate idiots.

I've stepped away from FB tonight because I can't stand the posts from other idiots trying to justify their actions

ssd · 07/03/2021 19:12

Exactly. Theres ways to celebrate and stay safe. I feel like Glasgow has been locked down forever. Freedom is near. But this could shoot up numbers if fans go to house parties now. Honestly I could cry.

It truly beggars belief especially when there is light at the end of the tunnel, well there was.

Not just Glasgow it'll affect as I know some people have travelled from North Lanarkshire to Ibrox, words fail me.

ssd · 07/03/2021 19:28

I haven't actually heard much condemnation on the news. They just talked about fans celebrating. And I read the fans got a police escort to George square?? Surely not.

DS(19) has friends there. Hes furious with them, really really angry. He says what's the point now. And hes followed the guidelines totally.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/03/2021 19:31

Crazy to see all the crowd.

heidbuttsupper · 07/03/2021 19:36

Disgraceful behaviour

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 07/03/2021 19:36

Another one who will cry if numbers go up now. Glasgow numbers have been so slow to drop, and were looking like they may go below 100/100,000 at last.

And to those saying about negligible transmission rates outside - do you think they're all heading home, to their own individual homes, after their police-supported street party? Are they hell.

florafoxtrot · 07/03/2021 19:43

Totally ridiculous. People not being allowed to go to funerals of loved ones, families desperately missing each other and just the massive impact this has had on us all.

I understand people are fed up but the repercussions of this could be hugely significant. Also feel desperately sorry for NHS staff having to see that after a totally hellish year.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 07/03/2021 19:54

There are no words.
Except maybe selfish, thoughtless pricks.

BilboBercow · 07/03/2021 19:55

Absolute fannies. They've been setting fireworks off today and all yesterday too, my pup is terrified

Totally, I was working in the Covid vaccine clinic today and all of my colleagues were disgusted about it. It just feels like a slap in the face as we're working our socks off, extra hours on top of our normal shifts and then you see crap like that. I could cry.
IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 20:08

Can't get that worked up about if I'm being honest. It's just failure to lead from SG as usual. This year was always going to have a party atmosphere. It was either 10 in a row or the 55.

The government knew this and still allowed the league to play. Numerous breaches by players with little sanction. They should have been planning for the parties afterward. A telling off on Twitter is not sufficient leadership.

Those berating the police for not doing more, if the intervene in an aggressive way we will see riots on the streets of glasgow tonight. This is something I don't think anyone wants.

People have just had it and need something to feel happy about.

WonkyCactus · 07/03/2021 20:12

What a bunch of idiots. If we're in lockdown for longer because of this I will not be happy.

mummywithtwokidsplusdog · 07/03/2021 20:18

I am so cross! The whole thing is awful.... the photos are a disgrace. Rangers football club should be visibly and loudly telling their fans to go home .... people have missed funerals etc and yet they are congregating in 100s/1000s ... plus my dog is terrified of the fireworks that have been going off day and night. Nicola S we need you to be more forceful too.. a wee message on Twitter isn’t enough!

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 20:18

If they lockdown longer that's a political decision. We could come out of lockdown now with the numbers we have. Surely anyone from glasgow and the surrounding areas knew this would happen? Why do ScotGov act like everything is a surprise

weebarra · 07/03/2021 20:22

Absolute twats. I totally appreciate their feelings, my football team won the league cup for the first time last weekend.
Again, appreciate that they have a much bigger fan base than us, but the rate in Glasgow is still over 100 and that's going to make things worse.

dementedpixie · 07/03/2021 20:25

Larkhall also having people in the streets (I know people there). My brother lives near Glasgow Town centre and can hear the noise from his flat

dementedpixie · 07/03/2021 20:25

Fireworks going off here (North lanarkshire)

Ohnomoreno · 07/03/2021 20:26

oh whatever. It's not a pandemic anymore, it's just another disease, so you should be getting exercised about all of these events for the rest of your life. have fun.

Fluffmonkey82 · 07/03/2021 20:26

My DH and I are Rangers supporters we have had a few beers and some bubbly at home to celebrate but yeah I can't understand the mentality of these fans, loads of kids there aswell, I wouldn't dream of taking my kids out in that, my ASD DS would be terrified of the flares! Don't think the players are helping much either, I do understand the emotion but there is plenty of time for celebrations.

snowcoveredcampsies · 07/03/2021 20:26

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 I completely disagree.

Individual responsibility.

It's a sad day when the police can't disperse a crowd in the middle of a pandemic because of riot worries.

This is disgraceful behaviour and people should be ashamed.

tiredoftiers · 07/03/2021 20:30

I completely disagree with the fans behaviour but I'm unclear why they have been permitted to keep playing. I think the Scottish government were massively naive if they didn't consider this could be a possible outcome. It seems a sad reflection of our culture that we have prioritised professional football over participation in sport for so many young people.
The Scottish government need to take ownership of their decisions with have led to the scenes that we are seeing tonight.
