No social distancing at all, few masks in sight. Apparently at least 1000 outside ibrox , hundreds in George square.

Total superspreader events, even outside. The new viruses are much easier to catch.

Bloody great.

It's a good question. DH and I were talking about it during the week. Genuinely not sure if the government did have that power but I read the Justice Secretary is still thinking about it so maybe they do.

thedevilinablackdress · 12/03/2021 09:00

Of course they have the power. Professional football wasn't being played at all earlier in the pandemic.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 12/03/2021 09:00

I doubt very much they will cancel it. They will allow it to go ahead then stand at the briefing the next day complaining. It's a disgrace

PoloMintPatty · 12/03/2021 09:01

Yes but that was a blanket ban re Covid. This is a "we're ok with football just not this particular match". Is that not different?

PoloMintPatty · 12/03/2021 09:01

This is exactly what I think
rookiemere · 12/03/2021 09:49

And then the infection numbers will go up and we'll get the waggy finger and lectures about being good. Honestly it's as predictable as numbers rising after students went back to accommodation and if zero covid is the goal, cancel the matches and put huge police presence anywhere fans might congregate.

thedevilinablackdress · 12/03/2021 10:34

@polomintpatty
It is, but I really wish they would. Permanently.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 12/03/2021 11:04

Absolutely but they won't cancel so it leave the question what the fuck are we all stuck in for? It angers me as a business owner not allowed to open that this nonsense can go ahead while they expect people like me to just accept that no income is what happening.

anon444877 · 12/03/2021 11:35

that said, did you see in Amsterdam the young woman that had her skull cracked by being watercannoned onto a concrete bunker?

I don't stand for police using riot control tactics for celebrations where there's no threat of violence - the consequences even of water cannons are just not something I would ever want to see here.

Fine them.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 12/03/2021 12:15

I agree @anon444877 do not condone things like water cannons etc that is vile.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 12/03/2021 12:34

Compare and contrast with the reaction to the proposed vigils for Sara Everard.

The organisers are missing a trick - just wear football scarves and it'll be fiiiiiine. Angry

rookiemere · 12/03/2021 13:14

Coronavirus cases in Scotland up today and areas seem to correlate to football fans - am taking this from another thread as I don't have much knowledge myself. FFS we're never getting out of this are we? Prepared to lockup the country for months on end but not cancel a football match, it's ridiculous.

anon444877 · 12/03/2021 14:24

sobs.

Lidlfix · 12/03/2021 15:32

Very Rangers (kerbs painted red, white and blue and big orange walks) village in Stirlingshire has now got all kids on remote teaching from Monday due to significant cases in schools. So from early years to exam years they are back at home.

Ugh! I didn't think places like that existed in Stirlingshire.
icanboogieboogiewoogie · 12/03/2021 21:41

Oh God. Feckers. If there's any way that can be proved they need to cancel the old firm game.

user1487194234 · 12/03/2021 22:54

Can’t really see any way it can proved

user1487194234 · 12/03/2021 22:56

Would be a huge step for the SG to cancel the Celtic v Rangers game
We shall see
