No social distancing at all, few masks in sight. Apparently at least 1000 outside ibrox , hundreds in George square.

Total superspreader events, even outside. The new viruses are much easier to catch.

Bloody great.

Eejits.

@snowcoveredcampsies I totally understand your anger and aye it's probably not the brightest idea people ever had but where was the forward thinking in this? If you live here you know the intensity that football creates so as a leader should have ensured every possible thing was done to prevent this from happening.

The police where able to take a shit load of officers and a water cannon to 100 teenagers in Clarkston last night.

I don't begrudge some people a bit of happiness tbh. I am also on the other side of the coin here so gutted it's not the other way around

florafoxtrot · 07/03/2021 20:36

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 - are you honestly saying you wouldn’t have been had something to say about it if the SG had said no to football but it was allowed in England and elsewhere? They are constantly dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t.

Fully agree with a PP that people need to take individual responsibility for themselves.

We aren’t in Glasgow but my in-laws are and they haven’t seen any of their grandchildren in well over 6 months. DH is totally disgusted and upset at these scenes and he won’t be anywhere near the only one.

snowcoveredcampsies · 07/03/2021 20:37

According to another poster water cannons are illegal.

The SG and the police can forward think all they like but unless they magically were able to stop them congregating in the first place I don't see what they could do?

This is replicated all across the west coast I'd imagine. The park in front of my house is filled with maybe 30 teenagers firing fireworks at the main road 🤷🏻‍♀️. Their parents dropped some of them off.

People should behave better. We can't blame the government and the police for everything.

snowcoveredcampsies · 07/03/2021 20:39

But honestly I think the police should have gone in and dispersed that George square crowd.

StarryEyeSurprise · 07/03/2021 20:43

Yeah, I mean it'll happen again next weekend and I remember what happened in George Square in the summer. It really needs to be closed off.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 20:43

@florafoxtrot I personally don't think any of it should be allowed tbh. It is far from essential regardless if it's up here or down there.

No I'm sorry we have all been practising personal responsibility for a year I don't hold individuals to account when the FM thinks tweeting her distain is enough. If there is a genuine threat to life then shut that shit down.

They are illegal but they took one. It's on sky or bbc news but I don't know how to link to it on my phone. So 100 teenagers warrants and illegal device but thousands are ok? Lay the blame where it lies not at people who just want to celebrate some good news after a year of shite.

snowcoveredcampsies · 07/03/2021 20:48

You don't hold individuals to account who decide to go and congregate en mass in the middle of a pandemic?

I do agree with you though that the Police should have done / should be doing way way more.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 20:52

@snowcoveredcampsies No I honestly don't. The recent performance of ScotGov, the lack of hope, the fucking up of the figures and the general failures make me understand why people have said fuck it. 2 funerals in a week with 20 people and no wake. (One being a very close relative) to have no foresight that after 9 years Glasgow wouldn't turn red white and blue tonight is up there with one of the biggest failings so far.

I'm angry at the government and that's personally where I think the blame lies

ssd · 07/03/2021 20:53

Was there a water cannon last night, are you sure?

OP posts:
florafoxtrot · 07/03/2021 20:54

Fully agree that the police should be doing more to break it up and that it probably shouldn’t be going ahead either. Footballers themselves and fan from a wide range of clubs showing that they can’t follow the rules.

But I don’t agree that no blame lies with the individuals. Presumably a large proportion of them will go to work tomorrow, send their kids to school, go to a supermarket and in turn put others at risk. Its at a very pivotal point and if we want to continue to be in a position to lift restrictions then we need to go canny, those scenes are just thoughtless.

Kinneddar · 07/03/2021 20:54

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021. They absolutely did not take water cannons to the incident in Clarkston last night. Water cannons aren't legal in Scotland & Police Scotland have none

snowcoveredcampsies · 07/03/2021 20:54

I can understand why people might say fuck it and go and see family or whatever.

People who congregate in George Square to sing about being up to their knees in fenian blood aren't saying fuck it they're saying fuck you to everyone who's tried to do their best.

snowcoveredcampsies · 07/03/2021 20:57

Exactly this.
IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 20:57

I am just trying to work out how to link the article about water cannons.

RJnomore1 · 07/03/2021 20:59

Ayrshire trains up were mobbed too. Why weren’t Police Scotland at central checking who got off and turning them back round at that point? No they would have stopped it but they’d have reduced it. The planning was all over social media it can’t have been a shock.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 21:00

@RJnomore1 that's my point. It was known that this was happening and allowed to go ahead by the people in charge but let's all blame each other as is typical in the pandemic

dementedpixie · 07/03/2021 21:03

www.google.com/amp/s/www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/19141998.amp/ no mention of the alleged water cannon

Mylittlesandwich · 07/03/2021 21:03

I live in a very rangers-y area. This afternoon was an absolute joke. Hundreds up and down the Main Street. Fireworks have been being let off all day.

Merename · 07/03/2021 21:07

I didn’t know I was in a particularly rangersy area but fireworks all day here too Hmm

snowcoveredcampsies · 07/03/2021 21:07

I really do agree to be fair that the police should have done more. As a pp mentioned though I think that had the possibility of turning nasty and they've maybe balanced it up.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 21:08

@dementedpixie your right I can't find it when I'm looking but I seen it earlier and the article mentioned that the law had changed. I doubt I imagined it but maybe not a credible source.

The thing is the parties have happened now there is no changing that. Will it result in a rise in cases I doubt it but who knows. Hopefully not and it results in us unlocking faster.

snowcoveredcampsies · 07/03/2021 21:09

I think definite uptick in cases for two reasons

  1. The variant.
  2. These parties aren't going to end with everyone saying see you later chaps and going home.
MrsSugar · 07/03/2021 21:13

It is poor but at same time I can understand how much they want to celebrate and we are always going back into lockdowns anyway so they probably feel they may as well enjoy themselves ! I guess I’m too laid back and kind of know that you can’t control the actions of others so best not to stress.
I live in Glasgow n the fireworks are wild tonight !

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 21:14

No @snowcoveredcampsies your right this is a 2/3 party situation. I just can't help but be annoyed because by keeping the league going this was inevitable whatever way it went and actually by having controlled venues open could have kept a lid on this but no they didn't.

I remember years ago going to a street party in the Garngad with my family and it was great fun. There was police presence but it was a control thing incase it got out of hand. Every single member of the government know just how precious Glasgow football is to its residents and they have totally failed as usual
