Rangers fans celebrating in a pandemic

No social distancing at all, few masks in sight. Apparently at least 1000 outside ibrox , hundreds in George square.

Total superspreader events, even outside. The new viruses are much easier to catch.

Bloody great.

2/3 days*

@IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021

No *@snowcoveredcampsies* your right this is a 2/3 party situation. I just can't help but be annoyed because by keeping the league going this was inevitable whatever way it went and actually by having controlled venues open could have kept a lid on this but no they didn't.

I remember years ago going to a street party in the Garngad with my family and it was great fun. There was police presence but it was a control thing incase it got out of hand. Every single member of the government know just how precious Glasgow football is to its residents and they have totally failed as usual

Again I'm going to need to disagree and I'm not trying to be awkward.

Celtic did win the quadruple treble, a world first I believe, and there were no scenes anything like this. That was during the pandemic.

The Club issues quite stringent warnings.

I think Celtic fans are a bit more wary of the Police. They were kettled for example when they turned up to BLM.

For some reason Rangers fans seem to have a 'we'll do what we want attitude' abs the police seem to be wary of them rather than the other way round. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Redglitter · 07/03/2021 21:20

your right I can't find it when I'm looking but I seen it earlier and the article mentioned that the law had changed. I doubt I imagined it but maybe not a credible source

Possibly been deleted for being inaccurate. I've seen that happen before. I've often read an article about an incident and thought wtf thats not what happened. Early reports of things are from 'witnesses' who, in all the excitement are quite unreliable.

We often get reports of things like 20 youths fighting - cctv looks and in actual fact there are 3 guys pushing each other 😊

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 21:23

@snowcoveredcampsies no it's ok we do not have to agree. It's nice to debate without it being a nasty one. I think with Celtic last year it was early in the pandemic and also the way the title was given was different. I think had they won 10 in a row it would have been just as chaotic as today has been.

@Redglitter thanks I was sending myself mental because I know I read that this afternoon. My apologies for using it against this argument it isn't relevant at all as I was clearly wrong.

AllTheCakes · 07/03/2021 21:27

The whole league should never have been allowed to go ahead in the first place. Regardless of who won, there would always be a celebration like this.

The police don’t have the resources or numbers available to manage this now, there are too many people out and about already. If they start being heavy handed, riots will break out and we all know that’s much worse than a peaceful and happy crowd.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 21:28

@AllTheCakes absolutely. By allowing it to go ahead they knew this would be the outcome

Puffalicious · 07/03/2021 21:31

Agree with majority of PP it has been an absolute disgrace. Idiots on FB at Ibrox hugging with not a mask in sight. I'm in Glasgow not too far from Ibrox and if they spread the bloody virus and prevent my kids from returning to school next week I'll try and hunt down every, bloody one of them!

The fireworks have been ridiculous. My youngest has SEN and has been upset all day- I had no idea they would happen so didn't prepare him. Some sounded like bombs!

Also, can I ask, they celebrated yesterday when it was official, do why were there a massive influx of FB posts about 2pm today as well? Why was today significant?

Matilda2013 · 07/03/2021 21:32

@puffalicious it wasn't official yesterday but the last home game for a while. Needed one point or for celtic to drop points, which they did at Dundee utd which finished at 2pm today.

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 07/03/2021 21:32

@Puffalicious it wasn't actually official until Celtic drew today. They knew yesterday it was likely that they had the title

Peppafrig · 07/03/2021 21:34

It’s crazy behaviour I remember being just as disgusted when Celtic fans done it last year and a few months ago when they all went protesting for Lennon to be sacked and attacked police officers in November

Yellow85 · 07/03/2021 21:36

I’m really surprised the club has stayed silent through this. I’d have thought they’d have urged their fans to stay/go home and celebrate responsibly but nothing. Surely they’ve had enough time to organise a virtual celebration that could have helped. No amount of pleading from NS or SG is going to work here.

Redglitter · 07/03/2021 21:40

Exactly

AllTheCakes · 07/03/2021 21:43

I left Glasgow many years ago, and had naively forgotten how bad the sectarianism was and still is. I can’t believe in 2021 people are still placing religion and football side by side. It’s so engrained in Glasgow’s history that I don’t think it will change.

dementedma · 07/03/2021 21:46

The sectarianism in Glasgow is nauseating. Apologies to the decent folks who live there, but it is a horrible place to be at times like this.

doodlejump1980 · 07/03/2021 21:46

They’ll be in the covid wards in 2/3 weeks time. It’s a fucking disgrace.

Beepbeeprichie · 07/03/2021 21:47

Everyone knew this was coming- either 10IAR or this. People have been absolutely broken over the last 12 months. I’m not surprised that when there’s something to celebrate and enjoy that all common sense flies out the window.
I am very concerned.
The spike in Inverclyde, including deaths, is allegedly attributable to people misbehaving after the cup final and not enough social distancing in a pub in Greenock. And I have seen the footage.
Today’s antics were always destined to be this.

frasersmummy · 07/03/2021 21:48

@yellow85 did you not see the club sent the players out to celebrate with the fans. Granted the players were distanced from the fans, but it still sent the message that it was OK to be at the stadium for a celebration

Puffalicious · 07/03/2021 22:04

Thanks, folks, hadn't known that.

WhiskyIrnBru · 07/03/2021 22:04

We've had banners hung outside the local catholic school and setting off fire works in the play ground...

Really is disgusting.

Despicable.
Lolastarsandstripe · 07/03/2021 22:17

Bunch of fannies. Not seen my mum in months and these idiots are probably going to make it last longer

readsalotgirl63 · 07/03/2021 22:20

Can't understand why professional football allowed to continue. Appalling that the club have not told fans to go home and condemned congregating at Ibrox. Appalling that Scottish Govt and the Police did not state clearly yesterday that breach of rules would not be tolerated today.

Mylittlesandwich · 07/03/2021 22:24

I was sent a clip of the crowds near me, I'd share it but people might not be so happy as there's a lot of people in it. I just hate the "religion" aspect and the fact that central Scotland will probably be kept under tighter restrictions now due to an upsurge in cases. Just as I was starting to feel more positive.
