Found HIV testing kit in hubby’s bag!

Ok, so DH has been a little withdrawn for several weeks. Not sure what came over me but decided to have a nose through his work hold-all. I’ve come across an unopened HIV kit. What the hell is going on? How do I approach him when he’s home later today?

Just ask him why he has it.

LadyCatStark · 09/02/2022 11:18

It is HIV testing week or something like that. I saw it advertised on the back of a bus I was behind and have had an email about it from my drs so it must be an initiative they’re pushing so there could be a chance they were giving out the kits at work?

HIVpos · 09/02/2022 11:41

As mentioned it is HIV testing week and awareness being raised of getting tested. Maybe if he’s never been tested he thought it a good idea to do so? Ideally everyone would before/after relationships. Many people have HIV unknowingly and are diagnosed late. Being withdrawn might or might not be connected so I’d agree with speaking to him.

It’s also just been shown that more heterosexual people than gay people are being diagnosed. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/feb/09/hiv-infects-heterosexual-gay-bisexual-men-uk-testing-virus

@LadyCatStark - great that drs are emailing about this, I hadn’t heard of this initiative but perhaps done in higher prevalence areas.

It’s HIV testing week, our employer has arranged for everyone to be sent a kit at home, including those of us on leave.

kalidasa · 09/02/2022 11:45

Does he do a job where he could have been exposed non-sexually? But I think you just have to ask him I'm afraid!

Footnote · 09/02/2022 11:49

If he were hiding something wouldn’t he have done the test in the office loos and posted it on the way home?

One of my friends has been sent as part of HIV testing week. He is gay and thinks it might be due to him using sexual health services for gay men.

Does he have health anxiety? What hun does he do? Perhaps he’s had a needle stick injury?

BuddhaForMary · 09/02/2022 11:58

Our GP has a similar initiative this for HIV testing week, I had a text saying I can book routine bloods or request a kit.

Shocked that in this day and age people jump straight to escorts or gay men. You'd think they'd have educated themselves a bit by now. Seems to me HIV awareness is necessary for putting the record straight.

Goodness me. @Frauhubert has gone straight for the jugular there.

Have a chat with him, OP. No leading questions, let him tell you. If it is innocent, you’ll be told. If not, you’ll also know.

I don’t have an answer op but I’d go and get yourself std checked immediately.

PocketRocket81 · 09/02/2022 12:20

He works as an Engineer and not in an industry where he would be at risk of HIV. He is a self employed contractor and although works on a team would have no one ‘at work’ sending these tests out.

Maybe I have jumped to the wrong conclusion but he has been pretty distant lately. He had a ONS about ten years ago (unprotected) which I forgave but maybe the doubt never goes away.

Bellyups · 09/02/2022 12:24

After your update it looks like he has ordered one then. That, coupled with his different behaviour, I’d definitely be having a chat. If you think he would be honest

collieresponder88 · 09/02/2022 12:25

I think your intuition led you to look and you were right If he didn't have anything to hide he would have told you about it wouldn't he. Sorry but it doesn't look good. I would check his phone before I confronted him

Why aren’t you asking him? I can never understand why people come on a forum and ask advice on something nobody but the man in question can actually answer.

PocketRocket81 · 09/02/2022 12:36

@loveliesbleeding1 he’s not home yet and I needed a neutral sounding board to gather my thoughts and seek advice.

Of course I will be asking him some questions when he is home.

How bizarre.

"No one’s believing your proclamations of irony 😂"

You should look into the history of HIV.

🥴

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/02/2022 12:40

I’d cut to the chase and request one from your gp. You don’t just order a hiv test for no reason.

LadyCatStark · 09/02/2022 12:51

@HIVpos we recently moved and our new drs surgery email all the time about all sorts of things. There was recently an email about SAD for example. They’re very good, much better than our previous surgery!
