Where is this spell check I've heard talk of ?

OK I am off to be brave about making a business phone call. A couple of months ago I had meetings with a potential new business contact. It was all looking very good - benefits for us both and a really good opportunity for me. But then we had a misunderstanding. He got hold of the wrong end of the stick, I didn't correct him quickly enough, and I know he was really pissed off with me.

Now I have to speak to him about a tentative arrangement we'd made (to find out whether it is still on), and I've been putting it off for days. I'm a 'people pleaser' so I find it really stressful when I've got stuff wrong. So this is what I need to ask him:

• does he (and the client) still want me to be at the meeting in July?
• does he still want me to be at the 4 other meetings we discussed?
• will he want to involve me in any future work?

I'm really hoping for 'YES' to all 3 questions, but I'm expecting only 'yes' to the second one.

And he's very difficult to get hold of. So I'd plucked up courage to call him yesterday, only to find that he wasn't there. Wish me courage and luck.

venus - three 125ml glasses of wine. We only get the 'real' wine glasses out for guests.

And you were right, of course. I had a night of weird dreams, night sweats, jitters, and complete unrest. I'm going to ask the doc for some sleepers on Monday. I need to be able to wind down before getting into bed and wine or any other booze is not the answer.

So today I feel like deep fried dog vomit.

IsinDe - you know my thoughts on your family. I'm so very very sorry to hear of your father's accident. I hope that he is okay, please keep us posted. xx

Morning, only just got chance to read through last nights posts and my thoughts are with Mouse and Isindie, I wish I was articulate as many of you on this thread are, I find it hard to just write down what I think and feel, without overthinking and worrying about how it will sound.

venus - hope that the call goes well. I hate making uncomfortable calls, also a real people pleaser. Find it so difficult to put myself in situations where I am not certain of the outcome, but I can tackle it so much better these days, I still procrastinate, but certainly not to the level that I used too . And I open all my mail every single day!!

How are you thurso glad to see you, and I am sure that tongiht will be fine. Maybe a wee trip to the shops to get a girlie movie and a large bar of chocolate .

OOh Bafana, girlie movie, that's a good idea. I do have "Lost in translation" which I've never seen, has anyone else? I'm in the Mousehouse for snacks, as I don't really like chocolate , perhaps brie and crackers?

Venus good luck with the phone call, I have had two texts today, asking if I've calmed down, after work yesterday , so unlike me to get really wound up at work, everyone's a bit shocked I think!

thurso I thought Lost in Translation was rubbish - I found it difficult to follow, and I didn't think it was a good story. Go ahead and watch, but I'd have another film as back-up too

I plucked up courage - and....... he wasn't in. I've left a message so I'll see if he calls back. It's difficult because I really, really wanted the ongoing work. Maybe I'm too attached to it, all my zen meditation stuff says that we need to let go of the attachment to having something for it to manifest.

Off to try some zen....

venus, to make the call stand on a chair or a step, smile as you talk, as though it never happened, and don't let him make you feel bad. You didn't do anything wrong. You are not doing anything wrong. I read that standing on a step when making a difficult call can help you feel empowered. Lying down making a call can make the voice relax. I'd save that one for when you need to have a sexy voice.........this is maybe not the time

Lost in translation is good, really enjoyed it.
My snack of choice at the moment is oatcakes, mature cheddar and spiced plum chutney. Yummy yummy.
I didn't think that I was a chocolate lover until I stopped drinking , suddenly I was desparate for sugar, and was eating heaps of it, have managed to rein it back in a bit in the last couple of weeks, and my weight has stabilised for the most part!!

Mashed potato sandwich sounds absolutely hideous I have to say!!

Feel very at your family on yuor behalf Isindie Just because your DT's have 2 mommies doesn't and shouldn't make any difference in the 21st Century. They have loving, caring parents which is the most important thing. Hard I know but try not to let their comments upset you - their views are in the minority!

Have a stinking cold at the mo so I look like Rudolf but haven't drunk much at all this week.

x post with venus, lost in translation and a back up film possibly a good idea, what kind of films do you normally like, and we could come up with some recommendations.

My favourite girlie flick is "The notebook", also liked "The lake house".

Mouse - sleeping pills? Its none of my business.....but I don't reckon you need them. I reckon that is exchanging one lot of chemical in your blood for another. I reckon you need a new bedtime routine. Shake it up. Can you make it a time of day you look forward to? I never used to look forward to bedtime (still struggle with that a bit) because I wanted a little bit of something for myself in my day and sleeping just felt like (a) I wouldn't be around to enjoy the time off and (b) I was so exhausted that what help was sleep anyway. I also struggled to stop working, would keep going with laundry/cooking right up til the bitter end of the day. I've stopped that.

frumpy - laying down sexy voice is definitely NOT the one for this call. I'm waiting for him to call back, so every time the phone rings I'll be running to jump on a chair - probably an out of breathe panting voice - hmm not the one that's needed either.

I love 'The Notebook' too Bafana, although have to say I enjoyed the book more!

I am now picturing your phone ringing and you running, tripping over the chair, damaging a body part in the effort and trying to sound all calm and confident in the process!!!! Try not to giggle your way through this call...........

Frumpy - bless you. My bed time routine revolves soley around Nemo. I sleep once he has had his last feed, settled and gone off himself. That can vary hugely in this house.

He has never slept through the night, he doesn't understand the difference between night and day, plus he has no sense of danger so can't be left alone in the bedroom when awake.

I know you are trying to help, and I love you for it but I have quiet a few, ahem, issues going on. I am given sleepers by the doc on a regualr basis. I've not had any for a while so I'm due some more.

It's all very controlled.

Phew - phone call over - not very well done, I was tongue-tied and a bit shaky (not quite the calm, confident persona I was hoping to portray), but I think the outcome is OK-ish. The guy's answers were Yes for the meeting in July, Yes for the other 4 meetings that are arranged, and a possible for future involvement. I can only wait and see, but at least the answer wasn't a difintive 'no', and at least I know what the situation is, rather than worrying about the worst possible outcome.
