What’s going to happen?
Providing our flakey buyer even wants to go ahead now?
We were due to exchange tomorrow and complete Friday.

I moved this week. Exchanger and completed at same time. Was a nightmare day but its all done now. Good luck to everyone

Sorry to barge in, but does anyone know if surveys are being carried out at all now?

I would imagine that a vacant or new build would be fine, but don't know if all surveyors have been instructed to hold off.

Tbh, I don't see why an occupied house couldn't be surveyed if the vendors were out of the house and the surveyor wore gloves etc...but maybe I'm missing something?...

Sorry @LeaveTheBottle I don’t know :(

LeaveTheBottle · 01/04/2020 20:43

No problem @Imissthebeach. Hopefully someone will 🤞

Certainly in Scotland they are not being done

For those asking why things are not exchanging, this the current Law Society advice for solicitors: www.lawsociety.org.uk/support-services/advice/articles/covid-19-and-residential-conveyancing-transactions/

Some firms are better set up for WFH than others. We're still trying to progress matters but my boss is going to spend today ringing round to find out what the rest of the chain in each transaction can do.

Is anyone here between exchange and completion? We are at the bottom at of a three house chain, exchanged 4 weeks ago and are due to complete in one week's time.

The top of the chain wanted the long delay between exchange and completion, and are now making noises about wanting to delay completion 'until lockdown ends', whenever that might be!

We are in contact with our conveyancer re. what to do if completion doesn't take place on 9 April, applying for notice to force the completion, suing for damages etc etc. All we want is to move into our new house! We're renting at the moment and might be able to extend our tenancy but we can't wait around for the top of the chain indefinitely and will eventually look at rescinding the contract if we can't complete.

@LeaveTheBottle we had a survey done on Tuesday on the house we are buying; the guy went in after the owners had gone out for their daily dog walk (I think they passed in the driveway at an acceptable distance!) and he wore gloves.

However the surveyor for our buyers was also meant to come here on Tuesday and pulled out the night before citing RICS guidance. So there seems to be differences of interpretation!

I wouldn’t have minded waiting and didn’t push our surveyor into going at all, but I am glad it’s done. Just hope our buyers don’t lose their mortgage or something as a result of the delay of their survey - we already had the mortgage as the bank seems to have done a desktop valuation for ours.

We are completing tomorrow on our house in the UK, we moved out of the UK house last week and put everything into storage, ready for the Spanish removal company to pick it up when the lockdown is over. We are currently stuck in France trying to get across the Spanish border ( been here a week) Am hoping once we can prove to the Spanish authority that we only have one house ( in Spain) they will let us through to our home. Very stressful . Good luck everyone completing tomorrow

We have just completed, now hopefully we get to our home in Spain. 🤞
