Due to exchange tomorrow!

What’s going to happen?
Providing our flakey buyer even wants to go ahead now?
We were due to exchange tomorrow and complete Friday.

Our buyers solicitor have pulled out too. Annoying because it's quite a large chain and all other solicitors were happy to proceed as long as everyone could confirm they actually had a means to get moved.

igglypop · 26/03/2020 10:05

This is not filling me with hope. All solicitors were fine last night. And we are the only ones moving immediately anyway. People buying ours are going to decorate for the next couple of months.
Plus we are moving into probate property.
Let’s see!

@igglypop another way to look at it is four lots of solicitors we're happy to proceed. It was only one who wasn't. That would suggest that the majority of solicitors are still doing exchanges and completions. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

afrikat · 26/03/2020 12:06

I have just heard that our buyers are cracking on and no issues completing on the 3rd. Apparently our sellers are trying to get moved out this weekend and also no issues. This might actually happen!

igglypop · 26/03/2020 12:53

Still no news today.

Keeping everything crossed for you x

0htooooodles · 26/03/2020 16:57

Well we've just heard from our solicitors that who our sellers are buying off of - their solicitors will not agree anything until the whole situation in the world is sorted....could be months to a year. So they've royally fucked the whole chain. I don't imagine our buyer will wait as he's in rented accommodation.

I really don't think i can go through marketing and selling again. In this climate i think we'd have no chance, and when this all over? An even slimmer chance i imagine.

0htooooodles · 26/03/2020 17:01

Also to add, there's no one even in the house our seller is buying....it's fucking empty!! I'm so angry.

squiglet111 · 26/03/2020 17:05

Latest news just out. House moves are allowed!

www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-52044452

'New emergency legislation in the UK says no one in the country is allowed to leave their home “without reasonable excuse”.

Several new activities which are permitted have been added to a list outlined by the Prime Minister on Monday.

They include moving house, fulfilling legal obligations, accessing critical public services and to escape injury, illness or the risk of harm.'

igglypop · 26/03/2020 18:02

That’s great news that moving is permitted!
Still on for exchange and completion tomorrow. Exchange has been authorised and ready to go and funds from mortgage company are ready and waiting.

igglypop · 26/03/2020 18:03

@0htooooodles only just seen this.
So sorry. That absolutely sucks for you. No words.

Keeping everything crossed for you iggly even though I'll be very jealous!

VadenuRewetje · 27/03/2020 00:01

www.theguardian.com/business/2020/mar/26/housing-market-frozen-by-government-during-coronavirus-lockdown but I think you qualify as one of the exceptions - neither you nor your buyers need to move on the same date - you can complete and move into the empty property. your buyers can wait till next day and move in then. its the chaos of one family leaving at the same time as the new family arriving that the advice is aiming to avoid. it would be impossible to achieve while maintaining 2m distance.

igglypop · 27/03/2020 06:31

So there’s a van full of my belongings and they might not let us move. Great!!! Will find out in a couple of hours I guess.

OP posts:
Apolloanddaphne · 27/03/2020 06:47

I hope it all goes ahead OP. Good luck!

igglypop · 27/03/2020 07:53

I literally have no idea until solicitors open. Also will our buyers still agree to exchange and complete against government advice?
I’m shitting myself.

OP posts:
squiglet111 · 27/03/2020 07:58

Good luck for today. Hope it's all works out!

So much conflicting information in the news. Hopefully that means for people that are due to move weeks/months away and not those that are literally packed up ready to go!

igglypop · 27/03/2020 08:06

I really hope so.
My nerves cannot take much more of this.
We have an entire house packed up, 3 kids under 5 bouncing off the walls.

OP posts:
HettytheHoover · 27/03/2020 08:06

Wishing you well today @igglypop! Sorry to hear about those not moving.

We have everything packed up, I have absolutely everything crossed!
Government is swinging all over the shop on this one!

akkakk · 27/03/2020 08:09

There is a lot of misinformation in the news today...
the official government line is here: www.gov.uk/guidance/government-advice-on-home-moving-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak

if you are yet to exchange - delay
if you have exchanged, but could delay, do so
if you have exchanged but need to complete - carry on, but do so safely

there is also a reminder that it is not illegal for workmen to be in private houses, so removals can continue - but always bear in mind hygiene and 2m apart etc.

clearly if anyone actually has covid-19 / is self-isolating, it may change the situation a bit...

otherwise, if you have exchanged - crack on...
(and ignore badly phrased news reporters' interpretations of it!)

igglypop · 27/03/2020 08:20

We’ve not exchanged. Doing a simultaneous today.

OP posts:
igglypop · 27/03/2020 09:22

This is awful. Sat in an empty house wondering if we can move or not. Feel sick.
