What’s going to happen?
Providing our flakey buyer even wants to go ahead now?
We were due to exchange tomorrow and complete Friday.

Michael Gove suggested this yesterday and moves are still going ahead.
What if financially you will be out of pocket because you have paid for removal firms etc.
What if all the paperwork has been done and this week has been booked for months.
People in our chain have packed up entire houses, lost out financially, taken holiday from work to pack (some key workers).
I just think they need to issue clear guidance. As in moves planned until the end of March can go ahead and no exchanges or completions after this point.
They can’t expect people to live with their homes packed into boxes indefinitely.

Well we've done it! Exchange and completion done this morning and the watch agent dropped the keys through the letterbox at lunchtime. I'm so relieved it's over. The plan was to do work on the new house and move in slowly but that will obviously be on hold and we will just move ourselves in using our car and hope for the best. Fingers crossed for all of you in a similar situation.

Estate agent not watch agent...Grin

igglypop · 25/03/2020 13:48

@snaxinyourslacks sssooo happy for you!!!
Fingers crossed nothing changes between now and Friday.

I’m not sure that daily mail article is accurate. Our (hopefully) new house is due to be valued today. We’ve heard nothing yet but seeing how quickly the mortgage application progressed, I’m assuming we will hear fairly promptly if they are retracting the offer.

Not that I’m overly hopeful that our chain will remain intact though....

snaxinyourslacks · 25/03/2020 14:04

I think a lot depends on how big the chain is and your circumstances. We are completely chain free and new house was empty. Solicitor already had the mortgage funds in their account. My friend who is using the same solicitor had a larger chain, they were told it's all paused for 3 weeks and they will take it from there.

Great news Snax, good luck getting moved

No news here. I hate all this waiting 😭

Tulipvase · 25/03/2020 14:10

Exchange/completion isn’t even on our radar but I’m just worried that once you start giving people more time to think, they are more likely to decide to pull out. We are happy to continue and so is our vendor - it’s our buyer that concerns me as they are not selling and are a cash buyer.

snaxinyourslacks · 25/03/2020 14:13

I know this is a complete first world problem and not even a problem in the grand scheme of things, but for the first time in our lives we could actually add movers to move us but but it looks like we will be doing it ourselves now anyway!

igglypop · 25/03/2020 14:22

Our chain is teeny tiny. 3 lots of friends buying ours as an investment (all currently in rental or with parents) and we are moving into an empty probate property.
So I’ve said that it’s a chain as there’s lots of buyers/people involved, but I suppose actually there is only 2 properties in the chain.

OP posts:
Tulipvase · 25/03/2020 14:32

Ours is relatively small, 3 properties. It’s such an uncertain time at the best of times but right now, absolutely nothing seems certain!

And we had such a good buyer, everything seemed to fall into place - until this happened.....

I have everything crossed for those due to complete in the next week or two.

igglypop · 25/03/2020 17:41

Nothing in Boris’ announcement tonight then.
Now just to get through the new Coronavirus Bill tomorrow!

Rlw2020 · 25/03/2020 18:05

@igglypop When are you due to exchange and complete?

igglypop · 25/03/2020 18:09

Either exchange tomorrow and complete Friday, or do a simultaneous on Friday. Depending on what our flakey buyers decide as usual!

OP posts:
igglypop · 25/03/2020 18:10

@Rlw2020 how about you?

OP posts:
Rlw2020 · 25/03/2020 18:15

@igglypop best of luck. We are on a simultaneous exchange and completion for Friday. Money has been moved and we have vans on the driveway! One more day of announcements to go 😬

igglypop · 25/03/2020 18:17

Apparently our files are all ready to go.
My house is boxed up. Fingers crossed for us both!

Treacletoots · 25/03/2020 20:49

Well our removers took their payment and solicitor confirmed all still going ahead, so fingers crossed for Friday

afrikat · 25/03/2020 21:39

Good luck all, so hope you all make it!

Rlw2020 · 25/03/2020 21:49

Thank you.

Good luck to everyone hoping to complete their move.

CheeryCherry · 25/03/2020 22:02

I’m also due to complete on Friday - if my neurotic vendor doesn’t pull out last minute - and I’m more worried what the new neighbours will say when we are trekking to and fro past their windows - doesn’t look good on the social isolation front Confused

0htooooodles · 26/03/2020 09:21

Our buyers solicitor is now saying they cannot complete until a week tomorrow. I don't hold out much hope for that going ahead tbh. The situation in the world is fast moving, and in 8 days could be a completely different ball game. I won't get my hopes up, it's been going on since October and I'm bloody sick of the incompetence of our sellers solicitors. Angry

igglypop · 26/03/2020 09:38

@0htooooodles what reason have they given?
I still have my fingers tightly crossed as until last night all solicitors we’re saying all ok.

OP posts:
0htooooodles · 26/03/2020 09:43

@igglypop something to do with her being out of office, and that's physically the earliest they can do. Although, they've yet to tell our solicitor that - we found out from being in contact with our buyer. What is it with solicitors not speaking to each other? It's getting on my bloody wick! I just want it sorted Sad

igglypop · 26/03/2020 09:52

How frustrating for you. Fingers crossed it happens soon.
