Hi Tinker3, congratulations! Hope the worry about miscarriage is first time nerves & nobody close hasn't gone through it. If its just nerves, then don't worry & be just be sensible.

conkertree · 22/10/2008 12:45

congrats tinker3 - there is not very much (as far as I understand) that you can do that would cause a miscarriage (apart from things that you wouldnt do anyway if you know you are pg), so you should relax as much as you can and enjoy this bit of time where you and dh/dp know but nobody else does.

if a mc happened (fingers crossed that it doesnt) there would be nothing you could have done to stop it - so as said before, relax as much as you can.

Tinker3 · 22/10/2008 12:52

Thanks! It is hard though - especially being at work! I am so exhausted (despite 8+ hours a sleep a night!) I just want the next few weeks to flash by!

Totally normal of you to feel this way. I was a bag of nerves until my 12wk scan and from what I gather so was everyone else on my ante-natal thread. Do what you can to take your mind of things and stay away from bloody google as that was my downfall.
Congratulations.

Tinker3 · 22/10/2008 13:28

LOL! Tell me about it... I worry myself silly reading up things!!

I'm right there with you Tinker 3. It gets no easier even when it's not your first pregnancy! I'm 5 weeks and just want to wrap myself up too Failing that, I'd take to my bed and sleep for the next 7 weeks

amy6 · 23/10/2008 17:28

im feeling exactly the same !!!- first time and 5 weeks. Spending hours reading on the internet can make you even more scared. Almost feel like I am wishing away the weeks instead of enjoying the news

MOC · 23/10/2008 17:48

Hi all,

Am just over five weeks too, and my first baby. I'm an equal mixture of absolute excitment that it happened so quickly (we've been trying for 3 months) but am terrified as I will be just over 36 when the baby arrives. Just found out about the baby on Monday and I've been scared to death since about about miscarriage, the increased risk of Downs Syndrome, you name it!

Yorky · 23/10/2008 18:06

Congratulations!
Not a lot anyone can say to reassure you at this stage - I know I've been there twice!
First time I had no pg symptoms at all, felt fine all the way through and that made it feel totally unreal anyway, so somehow in my head easier to take away. Just before I found out about 2nd pg BFs sister had mmc so you can imagine how nervous I was before 12wk scan!
Hope it all goes well for you all

Tinker3 · 24/10/2008 11:41

It's so nice to know there are other people in the same boat! MOC - I can understand your concerns but keep postitve and like PustuleRots said earlier - stay away from Google!!!
Amy6 - I am the same - wishing the weeks away and that's wrong isn't it!? Let's keep in touch on here and enjoy the journey (the good bad and ugly)together!!!

oh yes definately xxx

SammyBags · 24/10/2008 16:12

If it's any consolation I was the same - am now 29 weeks and all is fine. I read up on the stats and the risk of MC from conception is 1 in five, but goes down to 1 in 8 as soon as you know you're pregnant, by that time your hormones are kicking in to make the placenta. Enjoy feeling excited now and take some comfort that your baby-to-be is now making itself at home.

feb80 · 24/10/2008 17:06

Hello all, I'm 4 weeks and already obsessed with reading all the wesbsites, forums etc.

It feels completely unreal even writing this post. Only DH and doctor know so far (and I only learnt what DH means this afternoon by checking the acronymns - as if there isn't enough to take in already!)

Was anyone disappointed with their 1st doc's appt? I went this morning to report my positive test and he gave me no more information other than 'hospital will contact you for scan and receptionist will book you in to see midwife in 4 weeks time'. Nothing on what to do right now - folic acid etc. Had hoped to 'feel pregnant' after seeing him but am having to rely on my ever-gurgling stomach for that. (Normal, anyone???)

Tinker3 · 24/10/2008 21:19

Hello Feb80 - I have to admit, I haven't been to the doctors yet! I have made an appointment for 2 weeks time when I will be 7 weeks but I have heard from others that it can be quite non-eventful! Sometimes they just tell you to pick up a booking-in pack from reception!!! I am just taking it easy - off the caffine and booze and popping folic acid and omega 3&6 (good for eye and brain development!!!).

Sammy - thanks for the words of advice!

I am 6 weeks plus 2 days with my 4th baby and i was having cramping pains so went to the hospital yesterday where they could see the sac but no heartbeat they said that was ok as perhaps i am not as far on as i think..........they have given me an appointment for Tues week but today i'm having brown discharge......i never had this in any of my other pregnancies so it's really freaking me out!I don't want to go back to the hospital as i know they'll just tell me to rest and let nature take it's course, I have three prvious sections
does anyone have any advice.? I know brown blood is supposed to be old blood......but i'm really nervous.

Tinker3 · 25/10/2008 18:31

Irishmama3 - I hope you're ok - I am not surprised you feel nervous.. You are far more experienced than me but I had brown sticky (sorry - tmi!) cm on the day before af was due and on the actual day is was due, and the advice I got from the local hospital is that it is quite normal for some women to have a slight bleed and/or discharge on the day af would have arrived.. It's called 'breakthrough' bleeding apparently, and is caused by the left-over hormones from the period you would have normally had? This is my understanding anyway! So maybe you are having this and aren't as far on as you think?

I hope it's all resolved soon! Keep in touch!

Tinker3, I am with you!!! I found out 3 days ago and have started to walk as if I could fall at any minute. Had scan in EPU today and found it was just a few weeks, so have at least 2 more months of worry to get through!

When having DD1 I only found out at 20 weeks and she was perfect - even after travelling half the world with me, eating some awful food and through some very very stressful family times.

I was sorry that I had missed ther early mnonths first time around....but, it made the pregnancy go VERY quickly!!!

I LOVE BEING PRGNANT!!

LullyMummaOfOne · 27/10/2008 16:18

Tink im with you too, Im 5 weeks now and feeling worried all the time. I did have a MC in July so thats always at the back of my mind.

I have just booked in to have a private scan on the 15th Nov, i will be 8 weeks. This is for peace of mind although i know it can not guarantee a healthy pregnancy at my 12 week scan. I just need to know that everthing is ok.

Try not to worry Tink, easier said than done i know!

MichaelaS · 27/10/2008 16:56

Hello all! this might be a bit premature but I am convinced I'm 4 weeks PG, AF due today and no signs of it appearing, and have had strange symptoms that I don't think i'm just imagining. Am going to do another test tomorrow (was -ve at the weekend) and see.

...but, if I am, I'm sure i'll be nervous too. Will be my first time too tinker3 so you're not alone.

Just wondering when other people start to tell their friends and family? I know 3 months is traditional, but not sure I can wait that long.... it would be nice to tell my parents a bit sooner, but i'd definitely leave the work people and wider friends until after 3 months. What do others think?

Tinker3 · 27/10/2008 19:28

Hello Lully! Glad you've found this thred! I am thinking of a private scan at 8 weeks too - I think it would be a good idea..

Sweetie34 - what a great story - I wish in some ways that I wasn't as 'in tune' with my body and that I would just be 'normal' until after 12 weeks!

What symptoms do you other '5 weekers' have?! I am really bloated and today I have funny period pain low down! It also really hurts if I get up quickly or sneeze!!! Very odd!

Michela - I have told my best fiends (3) and my parents but not telling extended family or work until the new year...

OP posts:
LullyMummaOfOne · 27/10/2008 19:42

My symptoms are the same as you tink, the pain from standing up to quick or sneezing is quite sharp and tight but only for a few mins. Ive been feeling rough in the evening (right now actutally- cant face my dinner) and my boobies feel like they are always hard with erect nipples! Maybe its just the cold weather!! he he!

MichaelaS · 28/10/2008 13:02

wow, sounds promising Tinker3, LullyMumma and Sweetie34!!

quick update on me (i'm afraid i'm obsessing and can't think of much else)

AF was due yesterday. no signs yet. Usually get a good 12 hour warning i.e. lots of bad cramps before AF shows up, but again nothing. But got a clearblue digital test this morning and its negative. The thing says its 99% accurate from the day of your missed period. So I still have no idea whether I am or not, despite sore boobs and feeling a bit sick now and again. Am i imagining it? can people get false pregnancies like cats? what is going on?

AAAARGH so annoying. [end rant]

love m

Sweetie34 · 28/10/2008 15:02

Tinker3 - You haven't heard the half of it. Shortly before I tested I went to the Dr and told him I thik I was INFERTILE as I hadn't had a period for two month. He asked if I could be pregnant and I was adamant - NO. My boyf and I had split up about three months previously, so I wasn't 'active' in that area. So I thought it was impossible. Even after taking FOUR TESTS I still thought it must be a life threatening illness with symptoms similar to pregnancy. Only when I saw teh baby on screen (and screamed) was I sure. It was SURREAL!! I was so happy!! Big shock for the boyf!!

Tinker3 · 28/10/2008 16:05

Oh that's such a funny story....!!! What a shock!! Goes to show that anything goes!

Hello Everyone,

I am just shy of 6 weeks for my first baby. So happy but also so scared. It is nice to know that everyone is going through the same stuff/feeling.

My biggest worry at the moment is having to pick where to have the baby. Everyone has an opinion about it. And it seems none are good.

Does it just come down to the day that you go in? All the hospitals seem to be as bad as each other. It is worrying me
