Hi there,

I am 4/5 weeks pregnant for the first time and really nervous about miscarrying - just want to wrap myself up in cotton wool ! Keep trying to quash my excitemnet but it's hard..

Tinker - I'm so sorry to hear your news. That's just heartbreaking.

Can I join you all. I should be about 6+1 but I had an ectopic scare last week and after the scan they said I might be back a week. They could see fetal sac and yolk sac but no fetal pole or heartbeat. They told me that you usually can't see a heartbeat until after 6+3 (so interesting that they backdated you SheWillBeLoved).

I'm an anxious wreck - the u/s lady was quite horrid and said well I'm not sure its a viable pregnancy but my Dr thinks its just too early to see anything.

Had another hcg test today and just waiting for the results. Trying to stay positive and focus on the stats being in our favour!

Hi Rozebud.

If it's an external ultrasound they may not be able to see anything (depends where the bean is inside you) but on an internal ultrasound you should definitely see it (as it's coming from the inside it's a lot closer to the action I guess ;) Push for an internal scan if you can, it's painless, basically a thin wand (which they charmingly put a condom on the end of) that goes inside you, is way thinner than anything else that has been there before so can hardly feel it. Also at below 7 weeks you may or may not see a heartbeat as babies grow at slightly different rates, so try not to worry either way (easier said than done....)

To be very honest, I'm not a great believer in early scans. They can be briefly reassuring but the pregnancy will either be fine or it won't and an early scan won't change the outcome, from 12 weeks I get it more.

Let us know how it goes x

Newb · 16/12/2008 08:12

...though it will confirm that it's not an ectopic and whether there's one or more in there ;)

VerifiedLU4097 · 16/12/2008 09:31

I think twinges on a particular side are normal and I (charmingly I'm sure) like to think thats the side of the uterus that the bean is buried into!!

Its weird, considering I only confirmed I was pg last thursday, that i feel increasingly paranoid that I'll lose it. I obsessively knicker check every time I go to the loo and the only symptom I have is boulder like sore boobs. Having said that I will off course be happy if morning sickness does not arrive with avengance because I'm taking my husband somewhere lovely for his christmas/birthday and I don't want to be a killjoy more than I already am with a broken wrist.

I was utterly convinced that I had not fallen this month, but am so pleased I told the radiographer 2 weeks ago that there was a tiny chance I was pg!

Hi there, thank you all for your kinds words..

Rozebud If it helps, I had a bleed at 6+3 weeks and went for an ultrasound.. They could clearly see my bean, in it's yok sac, with it's heartbeat clearly beating away! So yes, you should get good news! Just a word of warning though - if they can't get a good enough view with ultrasound, they will do an internal..

Lot's of luck to you.

Hi there,

Thanks for your messages and advice, that is really useful. Its so good this information sharing! Let's keep in touch and i will let you know how the scan(s) go on Monday

x

MoominMoma · 16/12/2008 18:52

Hi Rozebud, will be thinking of you on Monday. I go for a scan tomorrow, should be approx 8 1/2 weeks (they are not too sure) but want to make sure things are going ok as my last bean died at approx 7 weeks. I know it can still be dodgy but at least it might ease my mind before Christmas.

MoominMoma · 17/12/2008 19:14

I am still pregnant (for now at least) 8 weeks 3 days, saw a body and head, the heartbeat and it even did a wiggle for us. Has put my mind at ease for a while at least.

BabyBump2B · 18/12/2008 16:32

Moomin - well thats good news - did you now your chance of a miscarrige drops significantly if you have a scan at 8 weeks and everything's fine? Fingers crossed thats the case for you!

Rozebud - good luck at your scan on Monday.

I'm going in for my 2nd hcg level test results today - the last ones are good so it seems like it should be viable. Scan scheduled for Dec 30th when I'm 8 weeks. Just willing the days by now!

MoominMoma · 18/12/2008 17:11

BabyBump2B hope your test results are good. I was told last time once there was a heartbeat your chance of mc drops to 3% but we were in that 3% so trying not to get too excited, although it is hard whenever I look at the scan picture!

babycat · 19/12/2008 13:22

Hi all! I'm about 6 weeks at the moment I think and really anxious. This is a shock pregnancy as had to have ICSI with DD and thought we were both incapable of conceiving naturally . Should really be excited as never wanted DD to be an only child like myself but can't allow myself to relax at the moment. Keep thinking that perhaps the test was wrong, although I got 2 lines in about 2 seconds, so was a strong positive. Also worried about miscarriage as friend has just gone through miscarriage/ectopic (no idea how i am going to tell her that I am pregnant as she would've been due just a few weeks before me, so that is casting a shadow over things). Getting some niggling abdominal pains like mild period pain but extreme nausea and dizziness that I've had for the past few days has disappeared at the moment. Have some yellowy discharge too (sorry if tmi ) and keep knicker checking to make sure I'm not bleeding. I have red paint on my bathroom walls and keep thinking discharge is pinkish but I think it's just the reflection from the walls . Had a scan at 6 weeks last time due to fertility treatment and saw midwife at 8 weeks but doctor says midwife will probably see me about 10 weeks this time. Last time the second scan (12 week one)was around 13 weeks but if I don't see the midwife until 10 weeks this time I can't think they will be able to organise a scan for 2 weeks after that. Wondering also if I'm further gone than I think as can't remember last period being that heavy and abdominal discomfort feels a bit like stretching which surely I wouldn't be getting just yet? Argh!

Rozebud · 22/12/2008 13:21

Hello,

I had my scan this morning and ? big sigh of relief ? all was well. The baby is 9mm long and will be 7 weeks on Wednesday, which ties in with my calculations. Everything was clear and looked good; saw the heartbeat and she said it all looks normal and viable.

I am still in shock; I?ve had one period since coming off the pill over a year ago so this little one is a sweet miracle. Fingers crossed all will keep well...

valz · 22/12/2008 14:16

Hi Rozebud

im kind of similar to you, off pill over a year and had no period so i was prescribed clomid last month, i have done 3 preg test in the last week all positive, seemly im 6 weeks according to caluclators on the net. but i am soo worried about mc. i had some slight pinkish discahrge after bedding the other nite, and had a tiny bit on sat as well(no beddeing this time). but ive had stomach cramps and twinges and im up the walls. rang my doc and he just said there is a risk of mc in every pregnancy and if i had any clots or cramps got terrible to phone him for a scan, but id luv a scan just to put my mind at rest especially over xmas. im after reading tinker3s story, its awful, made me feel even worse now. anyone had these syptoms?

BabyBump2B · 22/12/2008 21:05

Hi all... had a horrible dream last night about miscarrying - there was an umbilical cord and a sac with a baby in it - just terrible. Can't seem to shake the feeling at all today. That said I just had my first full on throw up morning sickness so that' supposed to be a good sign!

Valz - try and get a reassurance scan - is there a drop in center near you?
