Hi there,

I am 4/5 weeks pregnant for the first time and really nervous about miscarrying - just want to wrap myself up in cotton wool ! Keep trying to quash my excitemnet but it's hard..

Welcome tobeingfat

Try not to read too much about the hospitals! As well as being as bad as each other, they're also as good as each other too
Certainly the hospitals in my area do very badly in the press and performance tables, but mostly I've found they're a dedicated bunch of people trying to make the best out of a bad situation. I have always found the antenatal care to be excellent and the staff in delivery units fantastic. The only bad side I have seen (and I've had 3 children in 2 hospitals, including a caesarean) is the post natal care, mainly due to not enough staff.
My advice would be to choose the hospital that is the easiest to get to (you may have to go there more often than planned beforehand)and to try to stay in for as little time as possible afterwards!!

LullyMummaOfOne · 29/10/2008 13:19

hi Toebeingfat, i have nothing but good repots about the hospital i had my DS in. They were great and as i had trouble breastfeeding they advised me to stay in as long a i wanted to make sure i had is sussed before i went home. I think everyones experiences are different and most people only moan about the bad stuff.

is anyone else off their food?? I cant face eating anything!

Tinker3 · 29/10/2008 14:08

Hello Lully - no, not off my food - did that happen with your DS?! Maybe it's a DD?!!!

I don't have any sicky / foodie symptoms at all - I am just sleeping a lot, have tender boobies and funny niggling pains in my tummy when I move around! I also look really bloated!!! When do you start to show?!!

Roll on the next few weeks!

Same here Tinker3, no major symptoms, just the little ones like sore boobs and the odd tummy ache (wouldn't even call it as much as a cramp). Had to buy myself another test today (5+1 weeks) to convince myself it IS actually happening!

I'm so worried about keeping it quiet at work in the lead-up to Christmas. There are lots of parties and lunches being planned and I don't know how I'm going to explain not drinking - colleagues know I always love a glass of wine!

LullyMummaOfOne · 29/10/2008 14:44

Well i thought i loved my food when pregnant with my DS but my DH said this morning i was exactly the same. Im not sure im convinced as i think alot of it is to do with worry.

Im also so cold today, not sure if its because its cold outside but im freezing in my office and the air con is off! It keeps making my boobes ferm up with kills!

Tinker3 with my DS i showed at about 16 weeks, with this one i think it might be sooner as im feeling really bloated already. They also do say you show quicker with your 2nd/3rd.

jellybelly100 · 29/10/2008 16:25

Is it possible to have a distinct preggers belly at only 7 weeks??!
This is my 2nd and I know people say you show earlier and I did show about 10 weeks last time! it doesn't seem flabby either, firm and the bump starts high up.

I just feel embarrassed, like I shouldn't look this big already! (hmm)

tobeingfat · 29/10/2008 18:56

Not sure that i am doing a great job at hiding it from work collegues either. The staying off coffee is a definite give away.

Also i feel like people are looking at me differently and that they already know. I think i am trying too hard to hide it.

It seems to be getting harder like you said feb80 the christmas party season is fast approaching. The driving excuse won't washed because of the prewarning you are given. Any suggestions?

I don't drink that much normally but all of a sudden everyone thinks i am some kind of alcoholic. "are you not drinking tonight? Not like you" or "you not having wine with dinner"

tobeingfat · 29/10/2008 19:02

The sneezing is a killer. I think there is something at work that sets me off, cos am sneezing at least three times a day and get a shooting pain straight after.

Also today I have felt very tearful. I think the hormones are kicking in.

Do you think that having twins would mean you would notice a bump quicker or that you would feel the effect sooner.

jellybelly100 · 30/10/2008 14:06

Hope it's not twins! Too much!

EvieBear · 30/10/2008 18:43

Hi everyone,

Wow this is a really great way to share problems/ ideas etc, I love it! I am a newbie to all this so really appreciate all teh info!

I found out I was pregnant on Tuesday just gone, it was a complete shock but we're delighted. It is taking a while to actually believe it, I can't stop thinking about it all... what it means for me and the rest of my life.

Anyway went to the dr on Tuesday evening, and like others have said, she was very matter of fact. I had to choose the hospital so have chosen Kingston with antenatal care at Queen Mary's Roehampton. From reports I've looked at this seems to be a good choice. has anyone else chosen the same?

So I don't actually know how far gone I am. Dr used the pregnancy chart to work it out based on my last period and reckons I am 8 weeks but I don't think this is true. Using the last period date is not accurate at all or?? I can't wait to have my first scan to see really how far I am. Apparently the hospital will send me a letter with appointment for this so looking forward to that!!

Ok that's all from me...

TheLittleMermaid · 30/10/2008 20:47

Hello Everyone and congrats!

JellyBelly & Lully - I'm EXACTLY the same with my tummy. I can't believe I'm showing already although I did read that it is normal to bloat in the first 6-8 weeks and then it goes down a bit (fingers crossed otherwise I'm gonna have a nightmare keeping this one quiet). Although I'm kind of hoping that people wouldn't say anything cos DS is only 12m!

I have first midwife appt tomoz and will find out a bit more about when I'm due. Think I'm 6 weeks but hoping for an early scan. Am so worried, like everyone else. Just wish it was december. Good luck everyone!!!

Tinker3 · 31/10/2008 09:37

HiEvie Bear and Little Mermaid! Congraulations on your happy news!

Evie - all pregnancy dates are calculated from the date of your last period, although techically, you would have concieved 2 weeks (roughly) after this... Bit odd, but that's how it works! My last period started on the 19th Sept, so I am 6 weeks today!

However, had sticky brown bloody discharge late last night so called Dr this morning and I have to go for a scan at my local EPAC clinic on Monday.. Bit worrying but as least afterwards I will know where I am at.. What will be, will be.

Happy Hallowe'en to you all!

jellybelly100 · 31/10/2008 09:52

Let's hope it's bloating then lol!
My babby's only 10mths so I am defo going to get comments in work along the lines of 'wow again', 'was it planned' and all the usual sensitive (not) comments!

I want to turn round and say 'shit, no it was an accident'!!

LullyMummaOfOne · 31/10/2008 10:02

Hi all and welcome to the newbees!!

Tink we must be exactly the same as according to my last perios im 6 weeks today too!! Try not to worry about the spotting/discharge. My best friend had this at 6 weeks and went for a scan to find out all was ok and she is now 25 weeks! It was just implantation bleeding apprantly.

Im off to the doctors next week to confirm everything and will choose the smame hopsital where i had my DS, they were great!

Im feeling ok at the moment, a bit more positive than before as i have lots more sysmtoms now, my boobs are kiling me- even walking down the stairs hurts! Also feeling quite rough around 4pm most days and im still off my food.

the only thing i fancy to eat is peanut butter on toast, cant remember if im allowed this so much research!

Amyway ladies have a great weekend and will catch up with you all nect week as i dont really MN on the weekends!! xx

EvieBear · 31/10/2008 12:50

Hi again,

Can someone please explain all the abbreviations- DS, DH and so on? Probably very simple to work out but I am a newbie!

Thanks!

LullyMummaOfOne · 31/10/2008 13:27

Hi EvieBear

If you look at the top of the page and click on the Acronym List it will list all the popular abbreviations for you.

DS- Darling Son
DD- Darling Daughter
DH- Darling husband

there are lots but you will soon get the hand of it.

tobeingfat · 31/10/2008 17:54

I'm 6 weeks today as well(How weird). I'm getting really strange feelings today, like period pain but not as bad. (It has to be the most stressful time).

Hopefully getting the scan just before christmas which will be a relief, so with any luck it is going to be a great christmas. Hoping to get it before works christmas party so at least i can tell everyone and avoid the awkward not drinking conversation.

Tinker3 - Good luck (i have my fingers and toes crossed for you). You seem to have the right attitude tho. You can't control it, so take it as it comes.

Wishing · 31/10/2008 18:04

hey im still waiting to find out, but would be just over 5 weeks if i am?? was just wondering if anyone on here has a lot of creamy white cm and there cervix seems higher??

congrats to you all too! recognise some of you from ttc threads xxx

greenhill · 31/10/2008 23:05

I'm 5 weeks too. I don't want to tell my parents, who are visiting at the moment. They have brought sacks of bulbs for me to plant and I'm feeling a bit done in after all the physical exertion.
Also when I eat in the evening, I can't finish my dinner and end up feeling sick afterwards. Fortunately (!) I have a terrible cold so the hideous coughing/ retching sounds from the bathroom, after I eat, can be dismissed as being an overproductive cough due to the cold. My Mum is getting suspicious as I won't take any cough mixture though.
I already have a 20mo DD so am feeling v. tired already. The first time round I was permenantly exhilerated and felt I had a great big secret, I just feel knackered but pleased this time.

greenhill · 31/10/2008 23:06

I did also mean to say CONGRATULATIONS to everyone...

lizzie9442 · 31/10/2008 23:10

Hi I have just found out I am pregnant only about 4 weeks! I'm so scared after having missed miscariage last time with twins. I just want to get to 12 weeks and hope everything will be ok at scan.

jellybelly100 · 01/11/2008 08:11

So we're all on a 12 week countdown at the moment! I feel like time's standing still and I've been 7 weeks for about a month!
Not long to go. My hubby tried to get me to have some wine last night but am really paranoid cos have heard the first trimester you should really avoid it. Last time I was preg I usually had the odd glass but later on in preg.
Roll on 12 weeks!!

Oh someone mentioned peanut butter. I hadn't read anything about that last time I was preg and was wolfing down p. butter sandwiches, then when I found out felt so guilty, but not they're saying if you avoid them it's worse! so just keep on eating I say...

arena · 01/11/2008 08:22

Hi guys hope i can join in, i will be 8 weeks on tuesday, have slight bleeding, and cramps yesterday.

I also have a early scan booked in for monday, i am really dreading it.

ladylush · 01/11/2008 09:44

I'm only 4 weeks 4 days. Time is going sooooooooooooo slowly. Roll on 12 weeks

VioletRain · 01/11/2008 13:04

Hi all

I am just coming up to 5 weeks. Go from being ultra-paranoid about everything to trying to be a chilled and reasonable mum-to-be!

Think I am doing okay eating-wise but bit confused about the vitamin A thing. I only take pregnancy vitamins now but have also been scoffing spinach, which I know has a decent amount of folic acid, but have also just seen it has high levels of vitamin A! Should we be avoiding eating too many natural foods with vitamin A (spinach, carrots etc)?
