I noticed the other thread was full and have started a new one.

Lovely to hear of everyone’s 20 week scans. Thanks to those of you who gave me a list of baby essentials, very helpful!

Hope you’re all doing well!

I have 2 girl names that I really like, Aria and Lara. I also like Helia, Hera, Nina, Maia/Maya. Basically short names.

Cannot for the life of me find a boy name that I like. We won't know what we are having so I'll just have to look at the baby and I think it'll come to me.
That's how I've named all my pets anyway. 🤣
I have always liked 'D' names for boys like Darren, Damien, Damon.
Can you tell I've read a lot of YA/Fantasy/Mythology books?! 🤣

Oatmilktea · 20/05/2024 15:02

@Honeymint we had a long list of girls names we loved (Charlotte, Sophie, Emily, Alice, Daisy, Lucy) but really struggled with boys names! Oliver is our favourite and Alexander is a close second, however we prefer the nickname Ollie to Alex

Love the mythology names like Helia and Hera @ceruleansky !

Busyhedgehog · 20/05/2024 15:21

We've told people the name, especially since it's uncommon here and likely to be mispronounced. DS's teachers try to correct him and tell him it's Eva...ahem...no, he's pronouncing it correctly. The baby is going to be named Ava, not Eva. 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I understand his German teachers getting it wrong but he's also got several American ones, who seem to default to Eva. Most of my British colleagues don't have an issue with it. 🤷‍♀️😊
Having been a teacher for such a long time now, picking a name was tricky. DH is a teacher as well and there was a lot of..."ahh...nope...taught one of those..." 😁

ceruleansky · 20/05/2024 15:56

@AnonymousXXIX
I know, right? I love Athena as well.
I don't know what I'll end up naming the kid..

missmoosh · 20/05/2024 17:16

We have name all picked out, most people know what it is and love it! Was nervous to tell people but I kept referring to her by name anyway to help bond, so figured I would slip up at some point anyway! We are going with Bella 😊

@Jess725 yes nighttime hiccups every evening between 9/10pm it’s hilarious

wannabe123 · 20/05/2024 17:24

@missmoosh that's a lovely name 😊

Is anybody else getting fed up of people? I don't know if it's the heat but I am finding I have very low tolerance for people!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 20/05/2024 17:43

@wannabe123 - I’m particularly fed up of people telling me I must be fed up of the heat 😂. The heat may be getting to me but them constantly pointing it out is not helpful!

Sophie3003 · 20/05/2024 17:44

@wannabe123 I have had 'you must be due soon' or shock horror when I tell them when I am due....this has been going on for several months....I am 30 weeks 🤣

Oatmilktea · 20/05/2024 17:49

@Morningcoffeeaddict yes I’m constantly getting people saying I must be struggling in the heat because I’m so big. I actually feel ok!

@wannabe123 I was fed up of people long before pregnancy 😂

We've decided on Rosie, just debating whether to give her a middle name now or not! DH doesn't think its necessary as it wouldn't be sentimental after anyone but I really love Rosie Isabella!

ceruleansky · 20/05/2024 18:30

@wannabe123
Yes!! And I'm fed up of people telling me "you look tired" or asking me "are you tired? Did you eat?"
Well obviously I'm tired, I'm 30 weeks, but give me a second to smile before you say that pls.

@Oatmilktea
That sounds so annoying, why do people feel the need to comment on a pregnant person's body?!

Amberellaella · 20/05/2024 18:33

@Oatmilktea the nickname is our issue with Alexander as well - I prefer Xander as the nickname but DH likes Alex so if we can’t agree it will have to be crossed off the list!

Definitely much easier to name a girl - we had already named him Elinor (Ellie) because I was convinced we were having another girl… probs doesn’t work as well for a boy though 😂

Amberellaella · 20/05/2024 18:35

@ceruleansky my cousins granddaughters are named Luna, Arya and Lyra so you’re not the only one 😂 they are lovely names…

Amberellaella · 20/05/2024 18:38

@Sophie3003 people keep asking me if I’m sure there’s only one in there so you’re not alone 😂

wannabe123 · 20/05/2024 18:39

@Amberellaella the nickname was why we didn't go with Benjamin I liked Benji, husband liked Ben.
We also had a name picked for a girl ages ago before we knew whether it was a boy or girl.

@ceruleansky everybody keeps commenting on the heat. I also can't stand it when people complain about a bad night's sleep 🤦🏼‍♀️ I have heartburn and a need to pee every couple of hours and just permanently exhausted!

Sophie3003 · 20/05/2024 18:41

This is the trouble with names, if you don't like the various nicknames that people could call them or they could choose because of them then it could be a no. I must confess the first thing my nan said when I named my daughter was at least no one could shorten it! Having said that my brother was always going to have the long name according to my dad and now my brother goes by both nicknames according to who speaks to him 🤣 so maybe you get less fussed as they get older!

Oatmilktea · 20/05/2024 19:39

I’ve created a new thread for when this one fills up. https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/5079244-due-july-2024-part-4

@glasshalffull0 love the name Rosie!

@Amberellaella nicknames are tough, I suppose they may end up getting called any nickname when they go to school!

Ooh yeah love that one too!

Jess725 · 21/05/2024 22:23

Hahaha 😂 giggling at the comments about what people are saying to us preggos.
Agree! Feeling fine until you said that thanks 🤣

i know this is my first but me and hubs also had more difficulty shortlisting boy names! Didn’t realise this is a thing!

@missmoosh yep! Right on time every night, I’m so silly, I googled ‘baby kicking rhythmically’ - hiccups, just hiccups 😂

Bluebonnet3 · 22/05/2024 13:20

I had another growth scan on Monday. I'm getting them every 2-3 weeks because DS was small. But this one seems fine. Each time is different percentile but currently at 60%. (Previous scans 30th, 50th, 45th centile.) For now we are sticking with current c-section date of 18 June (37w + 5d).

I'm off work now! I'm using some annual leave before officially starting maternity leave. Happy to have some time to be calm and try not to do too much. Also happy to skip the daily commute!

My task for today is to pack my hospital bag. I have everything to hand except the baby clothes, which are in the loft. Hopefully DH will get them down in the next few days so I can wash them before adding them to the hospital bag.
