I noticed the other thread was full and have started a new one.

Lovely to hear of everyone’s 20 week scans. Thanks to those of you who gave me a list of baby essentials, very helpful!

Hope you’re all doing well!

@ExpectantEs I don't mind that the clothes do not feel 'new' because to me that equals icky! Oh my god the thought of sleeping in bedsheets I did not wash with my own detergent first...

Don't know if you were serious, but here's my laundry routine haha:
Pre-baby I did laundry twice a week, once a 30 degree cycle for clothes (yep altogether, no separate whites lol) and once a 40 or 60 degree cycle for towels and sheets. Post-baby, because we use cloth nappies, I do laundry every other day. We do a nappy wash; and after the 20 minute cold rinse, we sometimes just throw in any clothes we have laying around (that's a 40 degree 2-hour cycle). Or, we do a separate 1 hour 30 degree wash for clothes, as before; and then also separate one for sheets and towels. I attempt to dry everything outside when the weather allows, but otherwise use the dryer for 1 to 2 hours. We use powder detergent for nappies, and liquid detergent for clothes; bit of fabric softener for towels. And this keeps everything clean for me, in case you were wondering! I have a friend with an AI machine who calculated a 5.5 hour cycle for my wash the other day hahaha.

I hate putting clothes on the line, but I quite enjoy folding clean laundry :) And I don't iron anything ever. (But DH does!)

AnonymousXXIX · 10/05/2024 16:46

Oh no @Oatmilktea that sounds stressful :( It'll provide some peace of mind though, and hopefully also some rest. Good luck!!

Busyhedgehog · 10/05/2024 17:02

@Oatmilktea Oh, that sounds so annoying. Would be my nightmare scenario. I'm the one driving DS to school every morning. DH doesn't drive and they'd have to take the train and bus or perhaps a taxi. Then the same in the afternoons. My due date is in the first week of the summer holidays which might be quite useful.
Hope they'll at least give you your own room so that you've got some privacy.

We've put all the garden stuff out this weekend (we've got a four day weekend here this week), so I've got some nice places to retreat to and sit down and just chill. It's not that hot here, yet. We've only got about 25 degrees but I find that quite pleasant. The pool is set up but the water is still cold. We've set up the hot tub as well and will be using that until the temperatures go a little higher. I'm really looking forward to it. Our old one broke last autumn and we had waited with getting a new one until now.

Morningcoffeeaddict · 10/05/2024 17:19

@Oatmilktea - hope you’re feeling ok! Safest place for you to be but long stays in hospital are a bit depressing- DH will have to bring you lots of treats and entertainment and FaceTime you with the dog as much as possible! I was in for 3 weeks having DS and the iPad with Netflix was my lifeline!

Oatmilktea · 10/05/2024 18:06

Thanks for your well wishes! @Busyhedgehog that would be tough! I’m lucky in the sense that we only have the dog and DP is working from home so don’t have too much to consider. Although I’m wondering what state the house will be on me and baby’s return home as his standard of cleaning and mine are very different 😂

@Morningcoffeeaddict you’ll know the feeling well then! I have the laptop but I’m thinking of treating myself to an iPad as the laptop takes a while to boot up etc.

All okay here. 29 weeks this weekend.

We’ve been given lots of clothes so don’t think I need much more but part of me wants to buy a few bits for DD of my own! Not sure what she will wear to come home so maybe I’ll buy that. Will probably start washing her clothes next week just so I can start putting them away properly. Going pram shopping soon too!

AimeeLou84 · 10/05/2024 18:22

Hey all. I’m currently 30+2 and have another scan Tuesday with Fetal Medicine to see how baby is measuring. I have GD and severely high amniotic fluid, I’m petrified they are going to induce me early. Anyone else had this issue before? Hope all of your pregnancies are going well

Morningcoffeeaddict · 10/05/2024 20:41

@Oatmilktea - there’s just so little to do while you’re waiting for baby if they suggest you stay in. Things to keep you occupied would definitely be my number one tip. I definitely found iPad more convenient than the laptop, and smaller so easier to stash away safely when you’re in the shower etc or just easier to get comfy with in bed. If you don’t have one I wouldn’t worry too much about getting a new one as they’re pricey but you will want some entertainment!

Oatmilktea · 10/05/2024 20:49

@Morningcoffeeaddict I know, during my last admissions I done a lot of online shopping to get organised for baby but I think I’ve got pretty much everything now. I’ve seen a good deal for a refurbished iPad so I think I’ll treat myself. It’ll be much handier than the laptop like you say plus I’ll be able to use it in bed at home while baby feeds etc!

OP posts:
Morningcoffeeaddict · 10/05/2024 20:58

@Oatmilktea - yes even with the iPad I did a lot of online shopping when I was in, just very easily done while you’re twiddling your thumbs. My poor husband was drowning in packages, and having to repack my bag every couple of days / wash things for me as there’s only so many changes of clothes you can have with you!

Which is the other thing, make sure the partner at home has clear instructions on what you’ll need when they’re bringing stuff in for you - there were definitely some odd clothing choices made!

I’ve got GD, baby over the 97th centile and moderately increased fluid at 29 weeks. I’m booked in for a scan in another two weeks with my consultant. At the moment the plan is for induction or elective section on my due date. My GD is currently diet controlled so the date may be brought forward.

Oatmilktea · 10/05/2024 22:16

@Morningcoffeeaddict yes that’s a very good tip! During my last admission he packed me a thong 🤣 it gave me and the midwives a good laugh anyway. I now have designated drawers that only have appropriate clothing in so that he can quickly grab them!

OP posts:
Morningcoffeeaddict · 10/05/2024 22:20

@Oatmilktea - designated drawer sounds very sensible! I got a very old and basically see through set of PJ shorts brought in that were fine to wear at home with a long top but absolutely not ok on a ward making my way to the shared bathroom with my pants on display 😂

missmoosh · 11/05/2024 09:26

@Oatmilktea im so sorry to hear you have to stay in for so long! I guess one small silver lining is you have been made aware rather than just immediately admitted!
agree with others about making sure your DH knows what to pack, I had a long stay in hospital before and like others the clothing choices were interesting! But also some of them impossible for me to wear due to being hooked up to all the machines and a massive scar on my neck!

ExpectantEs · 11/05/2024 09:56

@AnonymousXXIX haha! I was being serious, so thank you for your response! I'm going to be using some of your tips so I can whip myself into shape in regards to laundry. Especially as I heard it's one of the more tedious tasks when you have children.

@Oatmilktea I hope all goes well for you during your long stay at the hospital. I'm hoping time goes fast for you!

Oatmilktea · 11/05/2024 10:19

Thanks for your well wishes everyone! Although im gutted that my pregnancy has been awful and staying in hospital for so long is the icing on the cake, im glad it was diagnosed pre birth as the outcomes of undiagnosed vasa praevia aren’t good. Its a shame that I had to push so hard to get a scan with the specialist doctor but I’m so glad I advocated for myself!

Jess725 · 13/05/2024 21:44

@Oatmilktea no such thing as crazy dog lady, they are people too 😂😂😂
hope you’re doing okay!!

Someone earlier on mentioned they got sick one night for no reason?!
the same happened to me on Saturday night. I did eat at a restaurant but I honestly don’t think it was food poisoning. No bug either as no temp and im fine (but I’m also not a doctor so who knows)

there was no warning just a burny feeling in my upper tummy. I’m slightly traumatised 😂🤕

Savvy21 · 13/05/2024 22:05

@Jess725 I'm not a dr either but could it have been heartburn? Sometimes that makes me feel sick.
How is everyone doing in the hot weather? I've found that I burn even when applying sun cream! Need to probably keep reapplying through the day - I'm rubbish at that though.

Jess725 · 13/05/2024 22:25

@Savvy21 ahhh yes, very much could be. Can it make you sick?! I feel silly for not knowing! I’ve not suffered from it before fortunately 😊

Oh no! Has your skin become super sensitive?

Bali200 · 14/05/2024 06:05

@Jess725 I was recently sick during the night randomly after eating out, which I think was heartburn related as I have been suffering quite bad. I am now too traumatised to eat out at night/eat heavy meals at night and have added an extra pillow so I’m more propped up. Pregnancy is so glamorous 😂

@Savvy21 I’ve been ok with the heat during the day but the night sweats are something else 🥵 dreading it getting even hotter though!

Morningcoffeeaddict · 14/05/2024 06:23

@Jess725 - I think I’m getting heartburn too, have had to reduce all my meal sizes or I spend all day with a burning throat and feeling like I may throw up in my mouth at any moment - the glamour of pregnancy! I didn’t get first trimester sickness luckily but definitely nearly threw up during my monday team meeting yesterday.

@Savvy21 - I’m rubbish with the heat at the best of times! I’ve not been much different with that pregnant so far but I try to stick to the shade and drink lots of water. Preschooler hasn’t been helping with that though- the second there’s a tiny bit of sun he wants to play outside!

ceruleansky · 14/05/2024 07:36

Hello, ladies! Hope you're doing well.

29 weeks today, I'm starting to freak out a bit. My baby shower is this weekend and I've requested to keep it small with very close family. I'm so glad I got done with my maternity photoshoot 2 weeks ago, there's no way I could've done it now.

Anyone else have really bad round ligament pain while sleeping/ lying or pain on just one side of their labia while getting up in the middle of the night? I seem to get it only on the right side where my torso meets my leg. Last night I had really bad pain on the right side of my tummy too, I thought I was having a contraction but it got better once I stood up and walked (waddled).

Also yes to heartburn at night. I cannot lie down even 4 hours after dinner sometimes. The only thing I can eat at night is oats.

wannabe123 · 14/05/2024 07:42

@Jess725I've been getting heartburn. Tried a gaviscon at the weekend and hated the texture but it did help! Thankfully, mine has never made me feel sick. I know a friend was sick in pregnancy once and she put it down to just being too full!

@Savvy21 the heat at the weekend was awful. I was sat still and my pulse (according to my Fitbit) was over 100bpm! I was so uncomfortable. I'm almost pleased it's raining today haha!

I'm 32 weeks now and have a growth today and then have a follow-up with the consultant tomorrow. The scan was arranged after my 20 week scan I think because my last baby was born big. Bump measurements so far have measured on the 60th-70th percentile so I'm interested to see what he's measuring according to a scan. My midwife has said that once I have the scan they won't do any more bump measurements and it'll just be regular scans.

Sophie3003 · 14/05/2024 07:47

I am not envious of the heartburn but I have regularly been taking peptac at bed time as it is nice 🤣 and feels like a good thing to do after my evening yogurt and banana! I am hoping to avoid it this time but did feel a bit icky last night. How I managed to avoid it last time with a breech baby under my ribs I have no idea!

@wannabe123 I have a growth scan today too. My bump was just over 90th centile Friday so a bit nervous about what they will find today. Was massive last time also but thankfully my daughter was 7lb and I don't want any complications to a VBAC but I am getting increasing vibes that we might end up with a caesarean.

wannabe123 · 14/05/2024 08:50

@Sophie3003 I hope it goes ok! I feel weird about having a "normal" sized baby - I'm 6ft so just assumed I'd have big babies. I'm almost worried that they're small for me if that makes sense?
