I noticed the other thread was full and have started a new one.

Lovely to hear of everyone’s 20 week scans. Thanks to those of you who gave me a list of baby essentials, very helpful!

Hope you’re all doing well!

Has anyone started the names discussion yet? We have agreed on a list of 4 but of course our favourite first names are different 😄. I think it needs to "fit" with DD1's name but maybe that's a bit silly 🤷‍♀️

Think I will probably give DH final say as I picked our DD1's whole name. He agreed to it but it was post a very long & traumatic birth.

Amberellaella · 19/05/2024 15:21

@Nocoffeenotalkie we had a list of three (Alexander, Oscar and Archer) but added Evander (Evan for short) after watching the boxing last night. It’s risen to my number one over the course of today precisely because it fits so well with DD who is Evelyn (Evie)!

Amberellaella · 19/05/2024 15:26

What are your four? Or are you not saying? 😂

Oatmilktea · 19/05/2024 15:35

@Nocoffeenotalkie we have only one name decided, so let’s hope he suits it! We like Oliver.

@Amberellaella they’re all lovely names and Evie and Evan are adorable together!

Amberellaella · 19/05/2024 16:00

@Oatmilktea we liked Oliver too - but we have a work colleague called Oliver who we see most days so decided it would be weird 😂 it is a lovely name though x

Nocoffeenotalkie · 19/05/2024 16:19

We have: Mabel (lovable), Lucinda (light), Beatrice (bringer of happiness) and Harriet (home ruler 😄)on our list. I like to pick names with good meanings. Harriet is my daughter's pick (she's 11 so v. sensible suggestions)

We all like a different one though!

Dd is Annabel so I'd like it to flow well with her name too.

Nocoffeenotalkie · 19/05/2024 16:21

@Amberellaella Evie and Evan have a lovely ring to them.

@Oatmilktea Oliver is a great name. I think when you have one you love, it is easier as you know that's the one maybe?

Morningcoffeeaddict · 19/05/2024 16:59

Oh lovely names all round! If DS1 had been a girl he would have been Alba or Mabel. This DS is going to be a Niall (we’ve both got Irish families) but we’ve struggled to agree on boys names both times!

Amberellaella · 19/05/2024 17:08

@Nocoffeenotalkie ooh I like Beatrice, then they can be Bel and Bea 😂

Evander means ‘Good Man’ which is definitely something one wants for their son.

wannabe123 · 19/05/2024 17:41

Think we're going for Finley but also liked Edward (Eddie), Benjamin and Oscar. Our 3 year old is Archie and found it quite hard to find a name that went well.

Sophie3003 · 19/05/2024 19:05

@Nocoffeenotalkie we have sort of mentioned it but not really had any serious discussions! Needs to go with my daughter's name and we will need names for boy and girl as we don't know what we are having. I like Irish names but not sure if this baby will end up with one! I have a boy's middle name which is my brother's name!

Busyhedgehog · 19/05/2024 19:19

@Nocoffeenotalkie We've chosen Ava as the name for ours. Also had Alexandra, Johanna, Ella and Isla on our list, too. My friend's daughter is called Alexandra, though, which is why it will probably be the middle name. I know Ava is very common in the UK. It isn't here, though.

Jess725 · 19/05/2024 19:36

If baby was a boy we were also going to go with Finlay ☺️

loving the names ladies

no I’m not telling people friends the names! Are you? I reluctantly told immediate family haha

Nocoffeenotalkie · 19/05/2024 19:37

@wannabe123 lovely names. I am a teacher and am biased because I have taught a lovely Finley. He was such a lovely little dot but all your names are great. I just haven't taught.

@Busyhedgehog My DD has a friend named Ava but we haven't encountered any other in all her dance clubs/swimming/school etc. The ONS number Ava is actually only 2,293 babies named that in 2022 depute being in top 4.

@Sophie3003 it's lovely that you can use family name for the middle name. What a lovely way to honour someone.

wannabe123 · 19/05/2024 19:49

@Nocoffeenotalkie I'm a teacher too and so many names were instantly struck off. I've not taught a Finley.

Nocoffeenotalkie · 19/05/2024 19:55

@wannabe123 So much harder to choose names. My DH just says yes or no to my suggestions because so many he picked for DD1 got the reply, "Noooo, I've taught someone called that"

Names we had for DD1 but didn't use are now out the window as, due to the unforseen enormous age gap, I've encountered someone named every single one of them (some not in a teaching capacity). Started from scratch with this list - probably why there's only 4 names. I'm older than the usual 2nd time mum so have had too many years in schools 😄

Nocoffeenotalkie · 19/05/2024 19:59

@Jess725 nope, we are only discussing it in our little family of 3 unit. We have learnt from the mistake of involving family members with DD1. Opened the flood gates for "Oh no, that's not a good name" and "What about...?" Much easier to just tell everyone afterwards!

I don't think it's silly to wait and see what 'fits' baby when she arrives. Both names are lovely.

Sophie3003 · 19/05/2024 20:07

I never share names either as we want to not have opinions plus have sex and name to share at birth

Sophie3003 · 19/05/2024 20:35

@Nocoffeenotalkie I like middle names to have meaning, my daughter has my nanny's name (who passed away) who I was really close to

Morningcoffeeaddict · 19/05/2024 22:25

@Jess725 - we’re not telling anyone, just DH and I know. We won’t tell DS1 either as he’s too young to understand the idea of a secret! We did ask his suggestions but he maintains we should name the baby “poo” which is wildly unhelpful!

@Sophie3003 - we like middle names with meanings too, DS1 has family middle names from both grandfathers and this one is going to have MIL’s dad’s name which has been reused for lots of the men on her side over the years. Can’t wait for her to hear that’s what we’ve chosen.

Jess725 · 19/05/2024 23:15

I completely agree re keeping name and sex private. Good on ya! ❤️ Opinions whilst a pregnant and filled with hormones is a little much 😂🙃
I very reluctantly told immediate family. We have a large fam on his side and it felt more challenging to explain the ‘why’s’ of not sharing. Luckily they are all so great and nobody offered an opinion

Since this though we haven’t told anyone anything and I like it that way 🥰

@Morningcoffeeaddict 😂 ‘poo’ - I like it 👌
@Nocoffeenotalkie oh yes, the ‘what abouts…’ 🙈😂

anyones bub getting nighttime hiccups? Mine are quite intense. Don’t like the sensation at alllll

justanotherlaura · 19/05/2024 23:35

Our first is called Finlay, still love the name :)

This time we're going with Nathan and his middle name will be my grandads name who died during the first covid lockdown, not from covid just terribly unfortunate timing and we weren't allowed to travel for the funeral so feels a fitting tribute

Honeymint · 20/05/2024 08:35

We still haven’t decided on a name but our shortlist is: Oliver, Oscar, Finley, Theodore, Rupert. It’s amazing to see how similar it is to everyone else’s choices!

Choosing a boy’s name is proving so difficult though - we found choosing our daughter’s name much easier. Has anyone else found this?

Savvy21 · 20/05/2024 10:30

@Honeymint Yes absolutely. Naming my daughter was so much easier. We've chosen a name but also not said anything to anyone else. The sonographer seemed pretty sure it was a boy but I'm a bit worried if it turns out to be a girl and then we'll have to start again haha.

AnonymousXXIX · 20/05/2024 14:31

Love Evander @Amberellaella !

We have kind of settled on a name we both don't disagree on... but anyone I have dared to tell doesn't like it 😅 So ehm, not telling anyone else, because we've got nothing else, and when baby is born everyone will just have to be polite!
