Cramping and spotting 5 weeks

Crushed as I write this, had some cramps earlier which were very much like medium AF cramps. Lasted about 15 mins then went away, now a hour later I’ve some light pinkish/brownish spotting but cramps have completely gone.

I’m dreading the worst, last cycle I had a chemical at 4 weeks 3 days. Was just starting to get a little excited thinking lightening couldn’t strike twice. Any one have any similar experiences either good or bad? I’m anxious that as the spotting happened so soon after the cramping that it could end up being another loss but on the other hand I’d assume I’d still be cramping if it were?

Unfortunately I think it’s a wait and see type of situation. I know you’re asking for reassurance and everything might be ok, but it also might not be.

Speaking from experience, I had brown spotting shorty after I found out I was pregnant in August. I wasn’t too concerned at first as my test lines were strong at that point and getting stronger. The spotting also wasn’t often and went away after a couple of days. However, after a few days of no spotting, it returned. I tried not to panic as tests were still progressing. The spotting became more frequent though and one morning, turned pink. Within an hour, that turned to bright red and my miscarriage began. My test lines remained dark until 2 days after the heavy bleeding and were negative a couple days after that.

I can offer a bit more positivity though… I found out I was pregnant 4 weeks after my red bleeding in August began. Unfortunately, two days after that, I had bright red spotting. I was of course terrified that I was miscarrying again. But, the red bleeding was only once or twice when wiping and then there was also pink/brown spotting for a couple days. The EPU agreed to scan me in 3 weeks time, if I was still testing positive. The wait was agonising but I was able to see a healthy baby, measuring 5-6 weeks, with strong heartbeat. I've since had more spotting (light red and then pinky-brown this time) and will be having another scan next week to confirm the pregnancy is still progressing as it should be.

Hopefully your spotting isn’t a bad sign and I’m sending you lots of sticky baby vibes 💖

Thank you for replying, I’m so deflated. I’ve had some bright red spotting not long after the pinkish which has now turned brown but no more cramps at all and all quite light. If it is the end for this cycle I’d rather have it over with quickly.

so glad to hear that you had a great scan after another scare, this ttc malarky isn’t half stressful! Sending positive, sticky vibes for your next scan xx

Sorry you're going through this worry op. I recommend getting in touch with your EPU to see if they can scan you for reassurance, you may have to be referred through your gp but they were very good with me.

With both my pregnancies I've had spotting around the 5/6 week mark so it may well be normal. This time round I had brown spotting like you, and some pink, and on the day I got scanned I had some red heavier spotting when I wiped - I was a little constipated and this was after straining for a poo (but it definitely came from my vagina). The advice I was given was that if it became enough to soak a pad or was accompanied by pain then to go to A&E. I'm now 14 weeks pregnant so no idea what caused it but spotting in early pregnancy can be normal.

I'm not a medical professional and I don't want to get your hopes up when I have no idea if it is good news or not, but I also got period like cramps with my first pregnancy. It can just be your uterus growing to accommodate new baby especially if this is your first. I'm thinking of you Op x

TTCournumberthree · 31/10/2022 08:08

Thank you, this morning I have a little brown discharge when I wipe but no more red at all and no more cramps. I’m going to hopefully try and get an appointment with my GP today and maybe get some bloods done or a scan at epu.

I was fully expecting to wake up to bright red, I’d had a similar experience before my first child that was a miscarriage, I hate being in limbo like this.

Called drs who suggested I call EPU.

EPU here won’t scan or offer blood work till 8 weeks, waiting game now….

if I have anymore bleeding I’m to call back to have a gyna app to check the bleeding.

@TTCournumberthree I would encourage you to call the doctors again.
I had really bad pains at about 6 weeks and was sent from the hp to the hospital who scanned me to rule out eptopic.
I have read so many threads similar to yours over the years where everything has been fine so I really hope it is for you too! But I can understand the worry you must be feeling.
If you're worried then push for some reassurance.
Fingers crossed for you xx

TTCournumberthree · 31/10/2022 09:34

Thank you, it’s so scary isn’t it. My drs are running on reduced staff this week the earliest they can see me is Thursday but I think I’m going to book a private scan for Friday when I’d be near on 6 weeks or a day off.

Im at a point now to accept that what will be will be, no more spotting so far today. Wish I’d of had more symptoms to know if they’d disappeared or not, only fuller boobs which still feel fuller

@TTCournumberthree how's your day been today?

@TTCournumberthree how's your day been today?

Felt fine all day, light brown discharge every other toilet trip but only when I wipe and very very small amounts. In a state of limbo now really, trying not to be too hopeful incase it ends in heartbreak.

@TTCournumberthree I'm sorry you are stuck in such limbo :( I am currently 6+4 and yesterday had some very light pink cm when I wiped it was only a tiny bit but I'm freaking out, I had a mmc at 12 weeks in June and cannot face it again, have a private scan Friday, I still have all my symptoms and still being sick etc, but can't help think the worst

Did you book a scan? I'm sorry I can't offer more comfort, but here for the hand hold xx

So sorry to her about your mmc in June, I agree best to get the private scan. With my 2nd I had a little bit of brown about the same time as you and all was fine. It’s this bright red that has me panicking this time.

some very light cramps lastnight could be classed as normal but next to no spotting at all this morning, if I wasn’t looking for it I wouldn’t have seen it.

Private scan was very honest with me and advised that I wait until Monday next week, I haven’t had many symptoms at all. Some insomnia which now could be for worrying and fuller boobs and sensitive nipples which I still have.

sending positive thoughts for your scan on Friday please let me know how it goes, try not to worry too much they do say that pink and brown spotting is very common xx

Moosh18 · 01/11/2022 10:30

@TTCournumberthree thank you, I think if I wasn't such an anxious person I wouldn't of noticed it! But scrutinising everything made me see it, it was very light pink and my symptoms are still so bad, thank you for your kind worlds I'll be sure to update! When is your next scan? X

TTCournumberthree · 01/11/2022 12:04

@Moosh18 the hospital has booked me in for 8 weeks on the 21st and the local private places have said to wait till 6 weeks which is Monday.

The way I feel right now if I don’t have anymore spotting I may just wait until the hospital scan at 8 weeks. If I have one at 6 weeks and don’t see a heartbeat I’ll just make myself more anxious x

OP posts:
Moosh18 · 01/11/2022 13:07

@TTCournumberthree yes I know what you mean, I had one at six privately in my last pregnancy and they didn't see one, I'm worried 7 weeks on Friday would be too soon x

TTCournumberthree · 01/11/2022 14:05

@Moosh18 you do have a much better chance at 7 weeks vs 6 weeks of seeing a heartbeat. Positive thoughts!

still no more major spotting for me, few little light twinges here and there that I wouldn’t be worried about if I hadn’t of had the spotting.

i forgot how scary these first stages are, wish I started to get some more symptoms now.

OP posts:
Moosh18 · 01/11/2022 17:18

@TTCournumberthree I had absolutely no symptoms at all until 6 weeks, then bang on 6 weeks I started throwing up and have been since then! It was so odd, I felt totally fine and then one day it just hit me!! X

TTCournumberthree · 01/11/2022 20:25

@Moosh18 here’s hoping for sickness lol.

Not nice but I suppose it is reassuring for you to have that. Only thing I can say that I definitely have is sensitive nipples, feeling more positive tonight and keeping my fingers crossed x

OP posts:
Moosh18 · 01/11/2022 20:34

@TTCournumberthree I had that! Still do, not sore boobs in the slightest but my nipples hurt! I've been put on anti sickness as I haven't kept anything down all weekend, now I'm like my symptoms have gone it's over! I'm honestly going insane 😂

TTCournumberthree · 01/11/2022 22:25

@Moosh18 oh I really feel for you with sickness that bad. I never suffered too much with my other 2. I’m sure our bodies and brains like to drive us crazy with these symptoms.

easier said than done but try and relax. Fridays only 3 more sleeps xx

TTCournumberthree · 02/11/2022 09:20

I don’t think It’s going to be good news for me ladies 😢 I did a test on Monday (day after spotting) which would be 23dpo or 5 weeks exactly. It was only a hours hold so I wasn’t too worried that it hadn’t progressed much from 18dpo.

This mornings test 25dpo with fmu is much lighter, I’ve read about the hook effect and am going to do a couple more tests in a couple hours but I’m not holding out much hope. I should have had much darker dye stealers by now.

Honestly feeling completely gutted, this will be 2 losses back to back

Moosh18 · 02/11/2022 09:40

@TTCournumberthree I wouldn't wait a few hours and add some water, I had this exact thing happen in last pregnancy, and when I watered it down it was dark again, it could very well be the hook effect xx

TTCournumberthree · 02/11/2022 09:52

@Moosh18 i think that’s my last hope, I did the this mornings test at 7.15 trying to hold out till 11 at the earliest and see what the results are with adding water.
I hate this so much, I would never have tested again if it hadn’t been for the spotting.

Can’t find any private drs in the area to do a quick beta test, so frustrating.

OP posts:
TTCournumberthree · 02/11/2022 11:13

18dpo fmu
23dpo smu
25dpo fmu
25dpo smu diluted 50%

I’m still not really convinced, the line is darker than the first one this morning but I don’t think it’s dark enough. It’s nothing like the other hook effect tests that I’ve seen, back to a waiting game

@TTCournumberthree that's absolutely the hook effect! Obviously when adding water the results won't be an accurate measure of hcg, that line is super super dark!!! X

Moosh18 · 02/11/2022 18:55

Your test line reallt really can't go any darker, I totally understand your fear, I had spotting earlier in the week and my sickness has stopped today after days of feeling absolutely awful like unable to cope, I really have resigned to thinking the worst x
