Ladies, I'm wondering if there are any older mums pregnant on here?

I'm 43, 5weeks today. I'm anxious knowing the odds and suffered a miscarriage in November. Would be good to hear from you, might be nice to share experiences and positive vibes

Hi there,
I’m 43 soon and 18 weeks pregnant with my third, my oldest is 21!

Bdbel · 19/07/2021 07:29

Hi ladies @tashx @AngelMartin2021

Great to meet you both. Congratulations!! It's so reassuring to meet people my age! Thank you.

How have things been going for you? I had a miscarriage in November, I was told I had a slim chance of pregnancy so decided IVF was the best option. I got pregnant naturally, just before we started so I'm crossing all my fingers for this baby xx

So pleased for you and congratulations 🥳
Fingers crossed all has been well so far apart from the general tiredness! Had a bit of a scare with a high chance of DS after my scan and bloods but that was due to the age factor alone, NIPT results came back low chance 🥳
I think I would skip the NHS one if possible as it just causes anxiety as the midwife said I’d be classed high risk just on age alone!
How are you feeling? Exciting times and there are lots of us ‘geriatric’ mother’s out there too!

Bdbel · 19/07/2021 08:25

@AngelMartin2021 that's great news, I'm so pleased for you and great advice!

I was considering pushing nhs for an early scan but maybe I should just go private instead? When did you go for your first scan?

Im ok, i had really sore boobs which seem to have lessened over the last couple of days. I'm worried about that! Did your symptoms come and go?

Not pregnant, but my son arrived 3 weeks ago. I'm 42. My pregnancy didn't seem much different/harder than ones I had in my 20s and 30s.

Bdbel · 19/07/2021 09:11

Congratulations @joanneligthelm @Hamsternaut that's fantastic to hear! I'm so glad I made this group. I feel better already xx

Hi, I'm 41 and have just had a BFP after trying for nearly 18 months. Had one chemical and an early miscarriage along the way plus I have a two year old daughter.

I'm trying very hard not to get excited yet 😬

41 years with a healthy 5 month old baby girl. Actually debating whether to give her a sibling. My oldest is 20 years old.

Bdbel · 20/07/2021 09:56

@Emmmie congratulations!! That's so lovely to hear! How was your pregnancy?

I'm having an anxious day... I want more symptoms! Feels like they disappear sometimes

Bdbel then you will be happy to hear that I have had almost no nausea and 0 vomiting throughout this pregnancy. I had somewhat sore breast, felt hot for a bit and had some specific food cravings, but that is all.
.
I did develop gestational diabetes which I controlled with low carb diet for the most part. I only had to take one metformin tablet per night for about 4 weeks and then stopped.
.
The baby was perfect at every check up, so I had nothing to worry about from that end.
.
I had a scheduled c-section due to a previous c-section in 2001 (breech baby), but went into labour 2 days before the actual procedure was scheduled. I was offered a vaginal birth as labour was naturally progressing well, but I was terrified so I chose to go with a c-section regardless. The whole thing took 45 minutes, I only lost 150 mL of blood and I was discharged to go home the very next day.
.
If I could have the same pregnancy and outcome, I would opt for another baby in a heartbeat. Please ask if you have any other questions🙂

spangleswereace · 20/07/2021 10:26

Hello Smileand congratulations!
I had my first baby at 40 and my second ten months ago at 46!
Straightforward pregnancies apart from the nausea!

Pinkywoo · 20/07/2021 10:36

Hi, I'm 40 and 6 weeks pregnant ( will be 41 soon). I also have 21 month DS so feeling pretty knackered!

MF1981 · 20/07/2021 12:19

Hey I'm 40 and 28 weeks pregnant with twins!

jojojo82 · 20/07/2021 14:52

Hey! Congratulations on your pregnancy! I'm 39 and almost 17 weeks pregnant with my first baby :)

Was ttc for almost 2 years and then got a BFP 2 weeks before I was booked in to start the fertility tests!

As to your question re first scan, its advisable to wait until at least 7-8 weeks as otherwise you might not see much which causes a lot of worry ... trust me I found out the hard way! I had an early scan at 6 weeks and only saw an empty gestation sac, had to wait another 2 worrisome weeks to go back again, but to my absolute delight, then saw blob on screen with a heart beat, limb buds, and it even didn't a little wiggle :)

I've also decided that if I were to have a second, I would go straight for the NIPT, as my initial DS screening come back a bit high (mostly because my age), but the NIPT then came back low. I think it would save a lot of waiting and worrying (especially if your NHS Trust doesn't off it and you'd have to go private anyway).

Hey, this is my debut post 😊 I’m 39 and currently 6 weeks pregnant with my first! I’ll definitely be up for the experience sharing and positive vibes, everything about this is new to me!
