Ladies, I'm wondering if there are any older mums pregnant on here?

I'm 43, 5weeks today. I'm anxious knowing the odds and suffered a miscarriage in November. Would be good to hear from you, might be nice to share experiences and positive vibes
@Bdbel I already had a letter through about my scan yesterday, it’s 2nd of September although I’m pretty set on a private early scan around 9/10 weeks. Lots of questions around basic details, medical history, allergies, etc.
That's exciting! I bet it's all starting to feel real now 🙂I think I'll go for an early too, although I'll probably go soon as I'm really worried about lack of symptoms. I'd rather know either way.

Nice to find lots of other older mums to be! I'm 43, and I'm 27 weeks with my first, due October by which time I'll be 44. Until I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes 2 weeks ago, I wasn't classed as high risk, I think age is being seen as less of an issue now as more of us are doing it?
We had an early scan, I needed the reassurance! I too had the coming and going of symptoms, I think that's quite common, but the scan did help. X

Hello! I've just turned 40 and am 18 weeks pregnant with our third. We were trying for 2 years for this one but had no troubles concieving the first two weirdly. Anyway, we got there in the end and we can't wait to meet him/her. Nice to see there are lots of other 'older' mums x

Bdbel · 23/07/2021 23:51

@burtle4 congratulations and welcome 😊x

I've made it to 6 weeks! Can't quite believe it as I keep expecting things to go wrong. I was going to opt for a scan today for reassurance but I'm a bit too scared in case it's not good news so didn't book it on the end. How is everyone else doing? X

Hi I’m 38 and I’m 20 weeks pregnant with baby number 8. I’ll be 39 when I give birth. No symptoms at all here and everything is going as it should 🤞

burtle4 · 25/07/2021 09:00

Congratulations @Bdbel! Each week that passes is a milestone! I remember feeling exactly the same as you, each time another week came by I just couldn't believe it! I know the feeling of not knowing whether to book a private scan just in case, but I caved at 9 weeks and so glad I did as it was such a massive relief to know everything was ok up until that point. Maybe book one for 7-8 weeks so you'll definitely get to see something more than a flicker on screen. At 9 weeks I couldn't believe how much like a baby it looked already!

Cashewcookie · 25/07/2021 12:58

@Bdbel I’m 6 weeks 1 day and can’t believe it either- just so so desperate to get to the 8 week mark (in my head I’ll be safer on this side). Not having an early scan - as I can’t bear the stress of it.

Bdbel · 25/07/2021 13:04

@burtle4 thank you! That's exactly how I feel, I keep expecting everything to go wrong but I have to get through each day. I will definitely cave by 7/8 weeks though, at least I would see something by that point. If I go now there's a risk I wouldn't see anything to reassure me.

@Cashewcookie yes! We are thinking the same, by 8 weeks the risks are reduced a lot so I'm aiming for that too ❤️ how are you feeling?

@Bdbel I’m ok I think … lots of cramping. But it’s not painful as such. Not sure what to expect. You?

bunnypenny · 25/07/2021 13:53

Hello! I’m 43 and 19wks pregnant with my third.
I had DS at 40 and DD at 41. Threw caution to the wind one time when I was 42 (😂) and well, here we are, DC3 due in Dec - I’ll have 3 under 3! 🤪

All pregnancies have been straightforward (and this one is too) other than nausea and vomiting from around 6weeks. I understand the anxiety but it does get easier. 20week scan on Tuesday so I’m keeping everything crossed all is ok.

Good luck everyone!

Same, I cramp on and off but nothing too bad. So I assume that's just normal. Wishing for more symptoms but should really be thankful!

Ah that's lovely to hear and you'll have a nice big family. Maybe I'll have the nausea to look forward to soon then! I'll regret wishing it!! Let us know how your scan goes? Will you find out the sex? Xx

@AngelMartin2021

Hi there, I’m 43 soon and 18 weeks pregnant with my third, my oldest is 21!
Hello, I'm wondering how/when you told older DCs?

Same question to @tashx

I'm 43, DCs are 14 & 16. I'm 5wks pregnant & had a MC in May at 12wks, which we kept from DCs. We were planning to tell them about pregnancy after eldest finished GCSEs but then MC happened. Would really like to share the whole excitement with them this time – and give them time to get used to idea of a baby – but DH wants to wait until we're sure it's going to last.

Anyone with thoughts or experience telling teens about sibling on the way?

tashx · 25/07/2021 15:42

@FactyFrances
Hi
I told my older children
After my 12 week scan
And
On my sons 21st birthday
Family was there
So everyone got to know at the same time x

NopeNotTodaySucca · 25/07/2021 19:05

Aww congratulations on 6 weeks @Bdbel! How are you feeling?
I’m 7 weeks today - I’m still feeling generally ok (queasy feeling, tiredness, sore heavy boobs, slight cramps mainly in the morning) but I think I’m going off tea! Now that is really out of the ordinary because since I was a kid I’ve been a proper tea belly 😂

burtle4 · 25/07/2021 19:39

@NopeNotTodaySucca I went off tea too! Very strange! Now I'm 19 weeks I have the odd cup but it's not as satisfying as it used to be - I used to drink so much of it as well!

@FactyFrances it's not quite the same as my older kids are only 9 and 7 but we told them at 9 weeks after a successful private scan. We've had a MMC at 13 weeks too so know how things can easily go wrong but they were so keen for a sibling that we didn't want to keep it from them any longer. We've obviously told them that things can go wrong at any time to prepare them if the worst does happen, but it's been so lovely sharing this journey with them that I'm glad we told them when we did x

Sunbird24 · 25/07/2021 19:44

@NopeNotTodaySucca I’ve gone off tea as well!

Starsong82 · 26/07/2021 11:37

39 here and currently 14+5. Have a 2.5 yo son who I had a 36.
@sophieanne22 I'm also on aspirin and had aspirin and heparin with my first as well due to my weight x
@LilJellybean i get those niggles and worries too that my weight is the cause of any and all symptoms or lack thereof but so far baby seems to be doing fine x

Moominmiss · 26/07/2021 11:51

Hi!
I was 38 when I fell pregnant with this baby. I’m now 39 and 32 weeks pregnant with baby number 4.

It was a tough time getting here as suffered 4 miscarriages in a row. Thinking we’d left it too late to have number 4. Tests and scans showed no reason for the losses so I assumed it was just my age and my body’s way of saying it couldn’t do it anymore.

After lots of my own research I started taking 150mg aspirin from 1dpo and tgat cycle amazingly had a BFF at 8dpo. Right from the start things felt different. My test lines progressed brilliantly. I had an early scan at 5+4 via tge EPU due to my recurrent losses, and amazingly saw a heartbeat.

We since went on to have more private scans than I can recall! Finally the 12 week scan was perfect. I opted out of the nhs combined screening tests, knowing it would automatically return a high risk result due to my age alone. Instead we opted to have a SAFE nipt test and scan. This thankfully gave us 1:100,000 odds.

All was still good at 20 week scan, and our final scan to date was a 4d one at 29 weeks where we saw our baby boy looking perfect with chubby cheeks!

I’ve since been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and have it under control with insulin and metformin so I will be having some growth scans coming up.

But I honestly never thought we’d be here and I still find it hard to allow myself to believe that I’ll be bringing a baby home at the end of it all!

Congratulations to everyone in here!

Hey, congratulations to you on 7 weeks that's fantastic 🎉

I'm good but my anxiety has gone overdrive today as I'm at the point I was last time when I miscarried. I promised myself I wouldn't let myself do this but here we are! I keep thinking something is wrong, and that with lack of symptoms isn't helping. I also kept going with tracking temp and I've dropped slightly which I've read is a bad sign!

Can't even believe I'm saying all this as I sound crazy! I've booked a scan Wednesday evening. I guess I need to know either way. Xx

@Moominmiss thank you for sharing your story, I've heard about asprin but wasn't sure if I should take it or wait to speak to midwife. Sounds like it does work x

@Bdbel best of luck for Wednesday. I feel super anxious too- but I can’t bring myself to call for a scan. Too scared but also thinking that it won’t change anything…. You’re braver than me.

Bdbel · 26/07/2021 19:07

@Cashewcookie i don't feel brave, I'm terrified. But I also know I can't go on like this. I think if it goes well I'll relax and then panic again! How are you feeling today? X
