Ladies, I'm wondering if there are any older mums pregnant on here?

I'm 43, 5weeks today. I'm anxious knowing the odds and suffered a miscarriage in November. Would be good to hear from you, might be nice to share experiences and positive vibes

@Emmmie wow thank you so much. That's really made me feel better 🙂 it's so good to hear some positivity from people in a similar situation. I'll definitely keep you posted.

Welcome everyone, thanks for joining and sharing. @spangleswereace congratulations, that's so nice to hear @Pinkywoo congratulations!

@NopeNotTodaySucca welcome and congratulations

@jojojo82 congratulations! Similar to me, we were just about to go for IVF! good advice, maybe I should wait to 8 weeks if it would make me even more anxious! Stupid question... what's NIPT?

jojojo82 · 21/07/2021 12:42

@Bdbel, thanks :)

I wish I hadn't had the first scan until 8 weeks, as I was preparing myself for the worst after initially seeing the empty sac ... was so happy when blob was clearly visible at the second scan :)

The NIPT is a Non-Invasive Prenatal Test. You should be offered a standard first trimester screening for Down Syndrome at about 12 weeks, which calculates the probability of abnormalities based on your background (age, weight, smoking etc), a blood test and an ultrasound neck fluid measurement. For us older mum's, the probability can come out high mainly because of our age.

If it does come back high you will be offered further tests. Depending on your NHS Trust, you may only be offered invasive tests which involve needles in the umbilical cord (which scared the bejezus out of me!), so instead, you can choose to privately pay for the Non-Invasive NIPT test which is just another blood test. The NIPT gives you a low or high probability which is apparently 99% accurate.

After a high probability from the initial screening, we eventually got a low probability from the NIPT so now no further action is required :)

However some NHS Trusts do offer these NIPT tests for free, so its worth checking with yours first.

Hi,
I am 42 and 14+6 with my first pregnancy. (And this is also my first post)

I have just emigrated to Canada and am suffering really badly with morning sickness 🤢

Glad to have found this thread 😁

Bdbel · 21/07/2021 18:55

Congratulations @Oogah and welcome. Oh no... I've not had morning sickness kick in yet. When did yours start?

@jojojo82 i will definitely be opting for that! I think anything else would scare me too!! That must have been worrying when you got a high probability, it's the not knowing and having no control! So glad everything is going good now though xx

Oogah · 21/07/2021 19:03

@bdbel I had nausea until week 10 and then sickness as well. I'm hoping I'm not one of those who suffers all the way through!

Sunbird24 · 21/07/2021 19:12

Hi, joining you from the due in March thread! I’m 43, 5 weeks today after 2 miscarriages from solo ivf. First time I’ve had nausea in a pregnancy though, hoping that’s a good sign - I usually get to the 8 week scan at the clinic and then only have an empty sac.

Bdbel · 21/07/2021 20:03

@Oogah oh no! Fingers crossed you don't 🤞

Hi@Sunbird24 I'm sorry to hear that, it's so anxious waiting isn't it? If you feel different this one, it's hopefully a really good sign ❤️ there are so many positives on here that it's given me hope. Do you have a date for your scan?

OP posts:
Sunbird24 · 21/07/2021 20:07

Yes @Bdbel, 10 Aug, feels like forever but it’s only 3 weeks!

Bdbel · 21/07/2021 20:12

@Sunbird24 not long... but yes it's going to feel like it is. I'll be crossing everything for you xxx

Not pregnant but did have my second baby 5 months ago and just turned 42!

I had my first at 39 and then we had a tough time with 2 mc before our wonderful second son was born.

Good luck to all you ladies! We do nearly have up after the 2nd mc and I was a bag of nerves throughout my last pregnancy. But I think we are a positive story!

Any questions on being induced let me know. I did get induced as my consultant kept telling me the risks and honestly with the added worries of being older, 2 mc - it was a relief to be admitted and know I would now get regular monitoring and my baby safely arrived.

Bdbel · 22/07/2021 07:30

@welshladywhois40 congratulations! That's such a lovely story to hear. Thank you for sharing 😊

Ladies... i have woken up with swollen lymph nodes on my neck. Has anyone had this early pregnancy?

Comiston34 · 22/07/2021 10:56

Hello,

I am 38 TTC for 2.5 years for 1st baby. Had 2 IVF cycles - 1st cancelled before any egg collection (low ovarian reserve) and 2nd has given me my first EVER positive this week. So I think? I am 4 weeks 2 days?

I feel really lost and disconnected, worried and then guilty for not feeling over the moon to be FINALLY pregnant. I had such a stressful time getting to this point I don't think I ever considered I'd get pregnant it just felt like such an alien concept.

Now I feel like I'm in the pregnancy waiting room - don't fit in with my IVF tribe and not quite ready to join the proper pregnant mamas.

I've got horrid cramps a lot of the time which feels like AF is about to arrive and I just feel quite low in mood instead of joyful like I expected.

Sorry for the rant - just feeling a bit lost.

MF1981 · 22/07/2021 11:19

@Comiston34 I can completely relate - mine is an IVF pregnancy as well and I felt exactly the same as you. I’m guessing you’re on progesterone medication so don’t forget that will be having an impact on your mood - it’s an evil drug. Give yourself a break and don’t be so hard on yourself x

KiwiDramaQueen · 22/07/2021 11:20

I’m 40 and 9+2. No children, second pregnancy - I had a MMC last year, it hadn’t grown past 6 weeks.

I had an early scan last Friday and all was well (good size, good heartbeat and wiggling away) but my symptoms have faded significantly since then so now I’m back to worrying. (I’d had overwhelming tiredness, sore boobs, on and off mild nausea, and was peeing 3-4 times a night.)

It’s real head-f**k isn’t it?

Comiston34 · 22/07/2021 11:48

@MF1981 thanks - no meds only Ovitrelle 8 clicks on transfer day so I think that should be out my system now.

I'm such a positive person usually that feeling low and unmotivated is hard. I really just want to curl up in a wee ball and hide under the duvet.

I've got my 6/7 weeks scan with the clinic on 10/8 I feel like I can't do anything official like connect with GP/Midwife until I've had this. Will that delay anything?

Sunbird24 · 22/07/2021 11:53

@Comiston34 I’ve got my viability scan on the same date, both my previous ivf pregnancies have been identified as MMCs at that point so I haven’t checked in with the midwife either yet. Don’t worry, some people don’t even know they’re pregnant until then and they still manage to get them sorted.

sophieanne22 · 22/07/2021 13:31

I’m 36 and just under 16 weeks. Anyone else having to take aspirin? And then her pain later? Not sure if it’s my age of weight! Or both. They make you feel like you’re ancient!!

LilJellybean · 22/07/2021 14:03

Hello! This is my first ever post and I'm very very new to all this, so apologies if I rant or sound silly!
I'm 38 and 5+5...and I'm terrified! I have wanted a baby for so long, but I have read about other people having sickness/nausea/fatigue in their first weeks and I literally have nothing....I just feel normal. Am I broken?! My weight is an issue as well and I keep thinking because I'm heavier than normal this is causing problems Sad I don't know if I just need to relax and be thankful I've no symptoms, or if I've cause for concern.
Sorry for the rant explosion! Blush

Cashewcookie · 22/07/2021 15:23

So good to read this thread. I’m 43 and almost 6 weeks. I’m utterly petrified. Over thinking my vitamins, over thinking my health, over thinking everything. Fertility clinic said I had zero chance, but conceived naturally. Not gone back to them to tell them…..

Bdbel · 22/07/2021 16:57

Congratulations to everyone that's just joined 😊 stressful isn't it?

@LilJellybean@KiwiDramaQueen

having the same panic today... my symptoms have gone. Stomach feel flat compared to the last two weeks. Im hoping it's nothing but me anxiety is taking over!

@Cashewcookiehuge congratulations, that's fantastic news 😊

Welcome to all of the new posters Smile

I had my booking appointment over the phone this morning. It was about an hour and a half, and now my brain is full of dates and pregnancy related information. It felt a little bit overwhelming but at least it gives me a structure or timeline to work with!

@LilJellybean I’m heavier too; I’ve not had any sickness, only a little queasiness which started in the past few days. (Week 6 + 2)I’ve been a little more tired but again really infrequently…I hope that helps to put your mind at rest a bit.

Bdbel · 22/07/2021 17:50

@NopeNotTodaySucca that's exciting! An hour and a half! Wow....did she tell you when you get your scan? Or just ask questions? X

OP posts:
MF1981 · 22/07/2021 18:29

@Comiston34 my clinic told me to inform my GP when I got my positive test and I had my first midwife appointment booked in ready for when I was 8 weeks. But I think different trusts do things differently.

NopeNotTodaySucca · 22/07/2021 20:19

@Bdbel I already had a letter through about my scan yesterday, it’s 2nd of September although I’m pretty set on a private early scan around 9/10 weeks. Lots of questions around basic details, medical history, allergies, etc.
