Hi, marking my place. Thanks for making a new thread x

Buzz22 · 20/07/2020 15:25

Hey everyone! All the hospital bag talk is making it seem very real all of a sudden!
I'm an over-packer and will most likely also want a dedicated snack bag like @otterbaby

BettyBotter1 · 20/07/2020 15:45

@Spark27 poor you, hope you start feeling better soon. @MummyBearBoo hope all goes well with your op @Treacle81 glad to hear all is well
I've thrown all the same things @Indigogirl88 mentioned into my hospital bag too. I don't have a thin robe so will probably take a long line cardigan instead. Will also take slipper socks. I've got a peri bottle on order that will go in too when it arrives. Anyone taking a pillow with them? I think the NHS list suggests one but I don't want to be excessive if that's a bit princessey! Will want a list by the bag for last minute things like phone charger and headphones as would be a pain to forget them. Need to plan the snacks now. I also want to pack minimally.
All great ideas for the batch cooking. We bought a load of Tupperware the right size for freezing 2 portions so we can fill the freezer up as much as possible.

Zaalfruit · 20/07/2020 15:46

Omg - already a new one !! I can’t wait till we can all say the littles one here .
My husband has been wasting all weekend making a e card for his friends to say coming soon October 2020 with a baby liver pool t shirt . He also make a chest fo drawers they look good for baby but spend 90 percent of the time moaning .

Treacle81 · 20/07/2020 16:12

Ahhh don't know what happened to my comment! Remember to a nice room spray and wet cloths with maybe facial mist to keep you cool and hearing that isotonic drinks and coconut water are great to have. @MummyBearBoo good luck and @Treaclepie19 thanks for new thread! @BettyBotter1 I know what you mean but think I will take mine, watching the Labour programmes a lot of people do so should be expected lol xx

booroo · 20/07/2020 16:42

Hey placemarking so I don't forget later Grin

FourPlasticRings · 20/07/2020 16:46

Hello again, all. Took a break from Mumsnet. Back now though. How is everyone doing? Hitting 30 weeks on Friday, seeing if I can do a home birth this time around, subject to a negative Strep B test.

NWnature · 20/07/2020 16:51

Eek just marking my place. I'm definitely not in the mindset for hospital bag yet!

Had our 4d scan on Sunday, apart from me nearly fainting from being on my back and too hot with the mask, all was well! Baby is tranverse at the mo so I am going to be more dedicated to sitting on the ball to work from now on. I just automatically cross my legs / sit with my legs curled up all the time which can't be helping.

We also popped in to look at prams, I think the Bugaboo fox might be too big! I'm at such a loss. Everyone in London recommends the Babyzen Yoyo which we really liked in the store, however I think for a newborn its too low and too flimsy. We walk in the woods on Hampstead Heath loads and I think it would struggle with anything non-pavement. However I really don't want something expensive and massive which gets in the way at home. Might try some of the smaller bugaboo styles if we go back.

Treaclepie19 · 20/07/2020 16:52

Im not even bothering with a dressing gown this time. I might take a cardigan but the wards are so hot it's pointless.
Not taking a pillow. I'm going to try and pack carefully this time because last time I didn't really have a clue what I'd use.

Zaalfruit · 20/07/2020 16:55

Omg a room spray , face mist , and wet clothes I didn’t think of that - I don’t have a robe - but I do have lots of wrap cardigans - I’m taking a few socks my feet always feel cold but I’m always hot on my body. And all these different drinks - If I see them I’m going to buy them and hide them from dh - or he will drink them .
I also need another bag for dirty laundry ...

I know this is tmi - but is anyone getting a wax below before birth - I had started on laser before getting pregnant but had to stop once I found out .

Spark27 · 20/07/2020 17:48

I'm planning on taking a cabin size case for me and a backpack/changing bag size bag for the baby. Want stuff I can move myself just in case the wards are locked down. I'll probably start packing stuff when we get back from our holiday, I'll be 34w then. I think I have most of the stuff I need though. I'll probably take a cardigan rather then a robe as the wards are so hot. But I wasnt discharged til 2000 last time so needed the extra layer. Not sure on the pillow, depends how I feel nearer the time. Might take my small v shaped one.
Definitely going to take snacks. Probably sweets, cereal bars, biscuits, etc.
I definitely recommend taking lipbalm as they can get so dry from gas and air, hairbands as it's so hot. And if you're being induced or in for a long time some earplugs as wards are noisy to try and sleep on. Going to take some nice miniature smellies and moisturiser as well for if I need a little pick me up

blankiesandunicorns · 20/07/2020 17:54

Thanks for the thread ☺️

Oh wow @FourPlasticRings a home birth that's amazing! I'm not that brave but it must be so much better if you can

LostinAusten2 · 20/07/2020 18:22

Thanks for new thread and hospital bag advice! ⭐️

otterbaby · 20/07/2020 18:31

@NWnature we were the same, really liked the babyzen yoyo but it did seem a bit flimsy for a newborn. We went for the bugaboo bee which is the more compact style so that might be worth looking into!

@Zaalfruit that's another tip I read, bring a spare carrier bag for all of your dirty clothes!

Not bothering with a wax but might have to enlist DH's help with shaving, visibility isn't great down there at the minute 😂

Nope. Don't you have more chance of infection after birth if you're all hairless down there?

FourPlasticRings · 20/07/2020 18:41

😂 I've been using a mirror on the bottom of the bathtub (sorry, TMI!) but it does my self esteem no favours to see everything from that angle!

LexiM · 20/07/2020 18:54

@otterbaby sounds organised with the meals and snacks. My MIL has kindly offered to make some meals for us and is well practiced on what works well as she did the same for my SIL last year when she had her baby. Not sure what freezer space we are going to have mind you!!

I have started collecting some bits for the hospital bag but I feel quite relaxed about it so probably will take me a few weeks to get everything together. I am already thinking of snacks. I specifically wanted the mini salami packets from m&s, similar to a crisp bag - I miss eating cured meat cold! I got a thin dressing gown from Sainsburys which is so soft. Is hospital hot even in the winter?! If our baby is late it will be towards the end of October. I have no idea what PJs to take for what temperature!

Saw my friend today and she gave us some early baby gifts in case she doesnt get to see us around the time the baby is born, so lovely of her and makes it all seem more real/close now!

I think I've got to the point now where I nearly cant shave myself. My stomach is starting to get uncomfortable when I stretch to do my legs. My belly button has been so uncomfortable today, I presume baby is sitting behind it.

Got my GTT tomorrow at 8am and midwife Wednesday. Hope it's not too hot in there.

BntTowers · 20/07/2020 20:42

Thanks for the new thread

@LexiM I had my appendix out in December and the hospital ward was insanely hot, especially when I had a temperature and the older woman at the end kept complaining and turning my fan off every time she went past. I still think I'll want something to cover myself so I've got a cotton gown to wear, it's not got long sleeves and is short as well.

A spare carrier for dirty clothes is a good idea, hadn't thought of that one.

Treaclepie19 · 20/07/2020 20:48

Hospital is always hot @LexiM!
It'll be making sure you have something for leaving that you'll need. It's always hot on the wards.

Thanks ladies it went well and I can already see better!!

Bit paranoid now though 4 separate people commented on how big my bump was one lady asked if i usually carried big!

Then I'm in theatre and two women behind me are talking and they were both commenting on how tiny I was compared to the size of my bump 'as people usually fill out everywhere' - i thought the tiny bit was quite complimentary until they added the bump bit! I felt like saying 'he's sorting my eye not my ears I can hear you' but I resisted!

I was laid flat on my back in hospital gowns and a blanket over me so I don't not think I can have looked that big!

I know my bump is bigger this time around but I wasn't paranoid about how big til today!! I think it's quite rude as they weren't talking to me and it was pretty off putting!

I can't wear make up for 2 weeks and have a clear plastic cup over my eye so I don't rub it!! Xxx

NWnature · 20/07/2020 21:11

Oww @MummyBearBoo hope it heals up soon! I think the bump comments have been one blessing of lockdown as I would really struggle with people commenting on size. Try to just ignore!!

Thanks @otterbaby - our mates have got the Bee , I liked it! I’m just worried I will want something with bigger wheels if I do fancy “off roading” 😂 who knows! It seems impossible to choose until they get here. Also definitely didn’t find any of them particularly easy to collapse so want to get it delivered ASAP so I can practice. Had a stressful run through with the car seat which made me imagine trying to do everything like that once the baby is here eeeeek

@LexiM good luck with the GTT tomorrow. I am also noticing the bump a lot more now. Slightly terrified for the next 10 or so weeks!!!

Treacle81 · 20/07/2020 21:22

Yes @LexiM the labour wards are always v warm for the newborns, too warm. I've got comfy loungewear and I'll buy an oversized hoodie. @Zaalfruit I always have cold feet too so will bring fluffy socks, slippers and flip flops to wear in the shower. I'm going for a waterbirth hopefully so will also bring a thin vest top for that and a nice towel for myself and one for baby and moisturiser. Yip, spare bag for dirty clothes, music and speakers or headphones if thru your phone and phone charger with long cable. I'm hoping to set room up so will bring battery candles and room mist @Spark27 I am also taking cabin bag with my stuff and will use the changing bag for all baby stuff. Remember spare cash in case you need it and I think everything else has been covered. Glad everything went OK and how you heal fast @MummyBearBoo xx

Treacle81 · 20/07/2020 21:25

@Zaalfruit I've never had a wax down there but was going to maybe get one in September, as defo can't reach it now and tried with mirror but it just stands up in shower lol. No good. Also struggling to shave legs and cut toe nails so might wait and get them waxed and a pedicure. Dunno how long I can leave hairy legs for right enough lol xx
