Hi becklespeckle,

When I saw there were now 998 posts this morning thought I must start new thread but when I read your post saw you've got there first.

I'll be 12 +3 when i have my scan next week,
so when all goes well (staying positive), I think i'm going to ask about getting a scan at 16wks as well.
Its only since I joined MN that I realise how common mc is. So sorry for your loss, it must have been hard to be told there was no reason why it happened. Lots of people here seem to be given the same reply from the dr's.
Hope you dont mind me asking but did you ask for the scan at 16wks or did you have to pay for it?? Dont think I could wait til my 20wk scan to make sure everything is okay.

Well thats all for the moment

hope everyone else is well today

flosspot · 27/09/2007 10:03

Hello, hello- just writng so you come up on my threads I'm on list!

ejt1764 · 27/09/2007 10:55

Morning all ...

Dondons - how about mint aero?

positive - mc is the hidden tragedy for a lot of women - there are lots of women out there feeling that they are the only ones ... I found mn after my 2nd mc last year - and lurked for a verylong time before joining ... it's been a godsend to me - epsecially as I've spent a lot of this pg basically housebound!

Have a lovely day all: I'm intending to quilt today ... then my list is done [gulp]!

rubles · 27/09/2007 11:15

Just a very quick note, again. Still no internet at home so have had to come out to the internet cafe to check up on people.

I skimmed the last thread and only took away a couple of points from it because I only have such a short time and I keep having contractions which are distracting me. Those were exciting birth stories from Fettle and Mumpbump and the fact that Janus is pregnant and has seen a heartbeat. I am really pleased for you - I seem to remember we had very similar troubles re: conception didn't we?

My waters are leaking and I am having weak, irregular contractions - sometimes every 4 minutes but then sometimes I won't get one for 20 minutes or so, and they only last about 45 seconds. They started last night so I was expecting to have made it to established labour by now, but no. So dp went to work and will come back early to pick dd up from school and deal with her. It's really difficult to know how to play it with this pre-labour as i don't know how long it will go on for, I really just want dp around with me but i don't want to waste his paternity leave. I didn't have this first time around, labour just started and that was it. I think i need to get him home and start nesting/relaxing/cuddling with him to help create some positive birthing energy in the house.

Ejt you sound very calm and ready. good luck for tuesday, or whenever it happens. I really hope I can come back on soon to catch up properly.

I have to go now, these pains are getting tricky to deal with sitting down in a public place!

ejt1764 · 27/09/2007 11:17

go rubles, go rubles, go rubles ....

daisyandbabybootoo · 27/09/2007 11:22

big up rubles for being in early labour and still makng time to get to an internet cafe to post ...you go girl!!! seriously though....good luck

just a quick in and out...

ejt good luck to you as well.

I love the new thread title by the way

hello all the newbies too and wishing you all happy healthy uneventful pregnancies.

babyboo doing great, she has cut her first tooth already (at 15 weeks) and is now trying to sit up and roll over and getting frustrated that she can't.

she is now only napping through the day, and only on top of me. If I put her down she wakes up......gives me a good excuse to MN all day though, so I'm not too bothered

take care

D xx

feedmenow · 27/09/2007 12:58

Aaah, nice new thread!

Rubles, WOW at you at the internet cafe with leaky waters and contractions! You are one dedicated mnetter! Good luck to you though. Will be thinking of you and waiting patiently to hear of the safe arrival of your LO.

Daisy, first tooth at 15 weeks? She must be mighty keen to grow up!

I am not such a happy bunny at the moment. My current birth plans are that I will have a VBAC at my local hospital. BUT my back up plan was that, if something happens and I have to have an elective section, I would go to a different hospital that is much smaller and friendlier and nicer. But someone told me yesterday that they had temporarily closed their maternity section due to staff shortages and have no intentions of opening it up again in the foreseeable future! Now I will have to start looking around to find another nice hospital as my back up plan.....

flosspot · 27/09/2007 15:51

Go rubles!!!

Janus · 27/09/2007 16:24

positive, thanks so much for your explanantions and so sorry for your loss last time. I wish you so much luck for next week and I would ask for a 16 week scan too. My scan next scan is not due until approx 13 weeks and I too am thinking of going for a private scan around 11 weeks to help with my peace of mind. They thought my missed mc was around 9 weeks so I feel I need to know if I progress further than this to try and help me relax IYKWIM. I hope they comply with your wishes.
Ejt, had no idea you were so close. I love the sound of your quilt, I may do the same once I'm a bit further, never thought I'd say I'd be knitting (which I assume is what you've done), I'd be a complete novice but assume you just do 'squares', is this right?
Rubles, well I never, sitting in an internet cafe with contractions and trickling waters!! Yes, you are right, we have very similar stories, I was due a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy this month and so glad I managed to avoid that but had every other test! Can't wait to read your birth story and how the new one is, wishing you lots of luck for today or tomorrow.
Feedmenow, my last birth was a vbac and my hospital was insisting on lots of monitoring, not allowed off the bed, etc. The way I got around it was staying at home and being relaxed there, a nice bath, tens machine on, etc. I went to hospital when pain was getting bad to find I was 10cm and pushing! They did monitor and I did have to restrict movement but at least it wasn't for long as she was born less than 2 hours after I got to hospital. May not be everyone's cup of tea but I wish you luck with whatever you choose.
Hello to everyone else.

widgetsmummy · 27/09/2007 16:57

hey all, just noticed your thread and thought I would share my little story...

I mc'd in March at 12 weeks - had booked in with the midwife but only got a scan date via letter after LO was gone. the drs could give no reason so after a little wait we tried again.

waiting for the 12 week scan was hard (as you all know) but seeing a very active mini-baby with flickering heartbeat was one of the most amazing things ever. yesterday was our 20 week scan and everything is still fine.

our little widget is proof that it is possible... good luck to you all

x

DonDons · 27/09/2007 17:52

Bouncing turtle - thanks for clarifying - I didn't think I was doing too badly and it does seem to be getting better in the last couple of days - I even ate some green things today (salad lol)

Mrs McJr - hope all goes well for you

Positive - will have fingers and toes crossed for you next week

EJT - mint aero - brilliant idea - I'd forgotton about those!

Widgetsmummy - thanks for the uplifting story - so good to hear them!

Good luck Rubles

ejt1764 · 27/09/2007 18:01

lovely to hear your positive news widget!!

Janus, I make patchwork quilts - it's my "thing"! The one I've made for lo is random batik strips in shades of turquoise, pink, purple and green (sounds horrific, but is actually quite tasteful!) ... I've appliqued cream simple flower shapes over the strips, and I'm going to be quilting it with a random stems and flowers pattern.
I also do crochet, and have made lo a three blankets - one a tunisian crochet one, in thick, chunky yarn, one a scrap is the traditional granny afghan pattern - but it's all one square, and one a scrappy one again, but made on the diagonal! I've also made this lo a couple of cardis and a jumper.
I've been more or less housebound throughout this pregnancy - the crochet blankets I made as I knew I could donate them to project linus if all went wrong: the patchwork quilt has a lot more emotional attachment in it - I've put in a lot of my favourite fabrics that I've been saving for the "right" quilt!
I don't knit ... I can't cope with the 2 needles at once - and it grows too slowly for me - whereas the crochet grows really quickly!

feedmenow - don't panic - a lot of things can change in the next few months! I would strongly suggest asking for a referral to the consultant midwife for your trust - they are MWs who tend to specialise in "normality" (bizarre thing as far as I'm concerned) ... but I found that my life got a lot less complicated once I had her on side - it's through my contact with the consultant mw that I've been cleared to go to the MLU ... once the consultant heard that I'd seen her, he visibly relaxed!
Why is the bigger, local hospital not a good place if you need an elective (if you don't mind me asking ... tell me to bugger off if I'm being too nosy!)

Well, the full force of the fact that I will be seeing the acupuncturist tomorrow has hit home [gulp] ...

better get this quilt finished!!

flosspot · 28/09/2007 10:11

Feeling a bit wobbly today. Getting quite a few period-like cramps, and it's getting on for the time that I mc last time, so am panicking...any thoughts?

Think I might go back to bed......

ejt1764 · 28/09/2007 10:14

Morning all ...

flosspot - don't panic, it could be nothing - a lot of us have had period tyoe cramps early on - especially around the time it would have been time for a period ... and the fact that it's so close to the time you mc last time just makes it more worrying for you ... let us know how you're feeling - take care!

well, possibly my last chance to have a lie-in scuppered ... the cm who takes ds to school phoned this morning - her ds has been very sick overnight - and although she'd still prepared to take ds, I don't want him exposed to any d&v virus ... however, as they're in the same class, he's probably been exposed anyway!

So I got to take ds to school this morning - he looked a bit forlorn, as the cm's ds and he are the best of friends!! He gave me a little wave that nearly broke my heart!! (all done for effect - he's a real little charmer! wink

I've finished the baby's quilt - just now in fact, have taken some photos, and am now going to have a go at putting my profile together! Will let you know when it's done!

Now going to do my profile, before going to the acupuncturist later on ...

feedmenow · 28/09/2007 10:32

Flossot, cramps and things all normal. Only worry if it gets really bad, otherwise MAKE yourself chill

ejt, thanks for the advice. Don't mind answering your q's. Bigger hospital where I had dd is just pretty rubbish. When I was in labour with dd I hd an epidural which, after a while, I asked not to be topped up so I 'd be able to feel contractions to push. I was advised this wasn't wise in case I needed a section (at the time I didn't question the advice of a midwife!). So subsequently I felt nothing and was useless at pushing. Ended up with various registrars hands up my fanjo, no respect, no dignity, nothing. Now this doesn't scare me this time cos I'm older, wiser and more sure of my rights. But the specific reason I don't want an elective section there is the crap aftercare, and the thought of being stuck there for a few days is enough to panic me something rotten! Mind you, sitting here thinking about that labour again and how awful it was makes me wonder if I shouldn't be looking elsewhere anyway.....

ejt1764 · 28/09/2007 11:17

feedmenow - your aftercare sounds very similar to mine!

Well, I've finally done my profile!! - and put some piccies on!

Ok, so now my list is officially no more ... [gulp]

Bouncingturtle · 28/09/2007 12:58

The quilt is gorgeous! Am of your talent

fettleandbabyfettle · 28/09/2007 13:01

floss - try not to worry too much about period-type cramps - I had them so badly at the start of this pregnancy - so much more than in any of my other pg including the 2 mcs - so thought this one was over too, but little 9 day old Toby is fast asleep in my arms!! look after yourself. xxx

ejt - I'm in awe - that quilt is amazing!!! And you look amazing too for 37 weeks pg and with severe spd!!! wonder how rubles is getting on - as after her, you're up next!!!!

big hugs to all
xxxx

becklespeckle · 28/09/2007 14:19

Go Rubles! Can't believe you were in an internet cafe while in pre-labour! So calm, I am impressed. Hope you are okay (and possibly even holding your LO by now...)

Flosspot, take it easy hun, the time around when you last m/c is always hard even without cramps but they are very common in early pregnancy so try not to worry too much if you can.

Daisy, how can babyboo be 15 weeks old?! Where has the time gone? Hope you are okay!

Positive, I don't mind you asking at all, I asked for the scan at 16 weeks because I hadn't had one since 6 weeks in that pregnancy. With subsequent pregnancies I did ask for my 12 week scan to be done at around 14 weeks instead (to put me past my 'danger' point) but they refused so I popped along to see MW at 14 weeks to see if they could find HB. Thankfully I am usually quite slim so they found LO easily although they are often reluctant to try before 16 weeks. I is hard to lose LO with no reason why, especially that late, but I doubt it is any harder than losing one because of a medical problem. Either way you have lost a child and all the plans for future that went with it.

WidgetsMummy, hi! Glad your 20 week scan was good! Are you going to come and join us here?

Ejt, you've made me fancy Mint Aero now since you mentioned it! Talking of chocolate, Wispa bars have been re-introduced for a limited period (not sure if it is online only though) so ordered some last night - drool...
Your quilt is fabulous! You are very talented. (DS is gorgeous too BTW!) I would dearly love to be able to do patchwork but I am not the best sewer in the world. I tend to stick to cross-stitch, am currently doing a large afghan for LO with a Winnie the Pooh alphabet on it. Well now you've come to the end of your list, no excuse not to have the baby now!

OP posts:
AnguaVonUberwald · 28/09/2007 14:32

flosspot

I too am having period like cramps - I am 14+3 and have been having them for several days. The first night they were so bad we nearly went to hospital, and then they stoped suddenly.

But they have continued since then, but not as bad. The midwife said - just wait and see what happens, but we have arranged a "reassurance scan" for tommorow at 11.

soooooo scared. Just want the Little One to be OK.

Uki · 28/09/2007 14:43

Hi All

nice new thread although as that means I'm officially graduated, i was still pg on the last one. so funny but you do miss being pg, when you are no longer.

I've still got some catching up from last thread.

mrsmc- sorry to read of complications, you rest up with the high bp and all the blood worries, hope you enjoy catching up in spain. Not sure anyone's mentioned eco disposable nappies yet, i uesd moltex and now naturecare baby, both good. i did ordinary cloth with ds for 4 months and have to admit it's a lot of time and water, we don't have enough water now, on rain/tank water so eco's are great straight into the compost.

ejt- love the profile pics and quilt. i tried to put pics up the other day but have forgotten password and no longer use that email address.

short post soo tired, good night and morning to everyone else.

gingercat12 · 28/09/2007 15:00

Good luck and a great weekend to all of you especially rubles

I am still totally preoccupied with my LO's HB which I heard on the Wednesday. Cannot think of much else.
