Sorry - forgot to say congratulations to EJT!! Very remiss of me, but blame those post-childbirth brain cells...

Sorry - forgot to say congratulations to EJT! Very remiss of me - I obviously lost more brain cells than I realised!

Hello to everyone. I have to be short as I am knackered - Joseph has a cold so wasn't feeding properly last night - cue hourly feeds - and so am shortly taking myself off to bed. I feel so much more tired this time around, unfortunately, and have so much stuff to sort out still. I will try to get back tomorrow whilst ds is at nursery to catch up properly...

Mumpbump · 02/10/2007 21:16

Brain cell point proven in the last post! Thought I'd lost the first line, but obviously hadn't...

PurpleLostPrincess · 03/10/2007 00:21

Hello all!

Sorry I haven't been on this thread for ages but I have popped in for a read often. I was really touched to see a few of you asking after me!

Well, Cerys Grace Emmeline joined us on 2nd September weighing in at 8lbs and I've added some pictures to my profile . She had to have an emergency colostomy at 3 days old though so it took me ages to catch up with announcements etc. (some of my friends didn't find out until recently!!). We've got a few more operations ahead and it turns out Cerys has a heart condition too but she is coping well and is building up her strength...

Congratulations to ejt, fettle and mump!!! What brilliant news, so pleased for you! ((((hugs))))

When I look back, its so hard to believe that I really do have a little baby of my own to hold and look after! All those months of knicker watching and trying to analyse every single little twinge were worth it in the end. Time seemed to stand still for so long, whereas it feels like it is flying now!

All of you who are just embarking on this road - please hang on in there! Just because the worst has happened before, doesn't mean it will definitely happen again - I hope we are living proof of this for you...

Love and hugs to all of you and sorry again about not popping in beforehand...

PLP, just checked your piccies. Cerys looks like a right little poppet! What a cutie! Hope she continues to thrive.....

MOM, did you find anything in Angua? Hope she is OK....

Positive and Dondons, congrats on making it to 12 weeks! No doubt you'll be able to start relaxing a little now...

nh, I found the best way for me to get through the long, long wait til 12 weeks was to break it down. So I arranged a private scan for just before 9 weeks so that I only had a few weeks to wait til that, and then only a few weeks more til my NHS scan. Is there any way you could go for a private scan in a few weeks?

gingercat12 · 03/10/2007 11:49

It is so good to hear from the graduates

I had a bit of a wobbly moment this morning. I felt that I drink too much water in the night, so I went for a diabetes test in Lloyds pharmacy. Of course, I should not have worried, but you never know. Feel loads better knowing it is all right.

MerlinsBeard · 03/10/2007 12:08

not found anything about Anguas scan. hope everything is ok. asked for her on the march thread but she hasn;t been on there for ages

feedmenow · 03/10/2007 13:18

MOM, I've just found a post from Angua on another thread this morning, so she's here, just not HERE. The thread was nothing to do with pregnancy, so don't want to go and hijack it to make sure shes OK!

But, Angua, if you're around come and let us know how the scan went at the weekend......

PLP! Glad you are okay and Cerys is doing well, she is a gorgeous little thing! Beautiful names too . She was a good weight for an early lass to wasn't she?! So
glad she is doing well and building up her strength.

Had my MW appt this morning and am measuring 29 cm which is a bit big for my dates (27+6) but I expected that TBH and blood pressure is a little up on last time but mine is so low anyway its probably better. I asked if we could hear the HB (said DS2 wanted to hear it - bad when you feel you need an excuse to hear your baby but they don't usually listen for it) but baby wasn't playing along! Took ages although MW could see random limbs poking out as baby tried to get away! Eventually she found it when she saw baby's back poke up but then LO tried to kick the doppler off (much to DS2s amusement!). Thankfully the MW was a nice one but I feel quite disappointed and a little concerned by how much services have been cut in the last 4 years.

Mumpbump · 03/10/2007 14:37

Congratulations PLP - hope that Cerys recovers well. What was the colostomy for?

Beckle - your HA sounds like mine. They have kept closing the maternity unit over the last few months due to permanent closures elsewhere in the region - south east - and so our local hospital is covering some ridiculously huge area. That was a major factor in me and dh deciding to try for a home birth even if we didn't get it in the end. I'd definitely look into it although if your baby is measuring really big, they probably won't be happy about you having one.

goingfor3 · 03/10/2007 14:42

I thought I'd add myself to the list. Nothing much happening except tiredness and sickness and some excessive knicker watching! I think I'll be six weeks on friday so still a very long way to go. I'm still waiting for the dr's appointment and unless I get a letter through tommorow it sounds as if it may not arrive for 3 weeks or so due to the postal stike so I think I'll have to call the hospital as the sooner I get seen to have the stitch put in the better.

becklespookle · 03/10/2007 14:49

Mumpbump, I don't know if they would allow me a homebirth, both DSs were over 9lb and I am quite small. Also DS1 had a large head and got stuck and distressed during delivery and I am 25-30 mins from the hospital here - I think I would rather be where there is medical help if I need it! If I lived 5 mins from the hospital then I would be tempted by a homebirth though, I imagine it to be a much more relaxed and special experience when it goes smoothly.

Postal strike is for quite a few days isn't it Goingfor3? I would ring your hospital to chase the appointment just for your peace of mind really. Glad you are feeling tired and sick (in a nice way!) x

Mumpbump · 03/10/2007 14:51

That's a shame. Might be worth asking about anyway just so you know what your options are, but I agree that being 25-30 minutes away from a hospital would probably put me off too...

Glimmer · 03/10/2007 14:53

Hi all,

PLP nice to hear from you. I read on another thread about Cerys' colostomy but hadn't heard about the heart condition. It must have been anxious days and weeks for you. Hope everything will be well and the surgeries will pass smoothly.

I went to my first parenting class last night. I have to admit it was quite disappointing.
I felt that the other ladies had very different issues from me. In short they were much more concerned about pain relief etc. and had almost no axieties about the babies health at birth. I felt I didn't belong to the group. DH liked it though, so that's good. Has anybody of the 'Graduates' had the same experience?

Sorry rampling along about myself. I found the first 12 weeks agonizing and basically knocked myself out by distractions (TV series, mystery novels). The middle 12 weeks were less anxious and I understood why it's called 'expecting'. Nothing much happens and one has to be patient. I guess the last trimester so far has passed faster. So far I felt physically better than in the 2nd trimester, but everything is more tiring and one always has to cruise all these extra-weight around. I guess the anxieties increase again as the B-day is getting closer. I also noticed that there is the time when one is finishing everything up and getting ready when the 'Graduates' posted less. Seem to be in this phase right now...

Well, so much about my experience. Healthy and well, healthy and well.

Fettle, Uki, Mumpbump, EJT, Daisyboo -- thanks for checking in and hope you are well!

Mumpbump · 03/10/2007 15:39

Hi Glimmer! I didn't do parenting classes this time, but last time, I alsp felt very much like the odd one out. Ds was unplanned and at the time I wasn't particularly keen on the idea of having children - how that changed!! Plus, as you probably know, I have two dsc so I was worrying about how the arrival of a new baby would affect them. The other couples - they were NCT classes - were all first time parents with no stepchildren to worry about and had been ttc for a while so were all over the moon about the prospect of their babies arriving whereas I was very apprehensive. After the first session, I told dh I didn't want to go back, but he insisted that it would be good to have other mothers to meet with whilst I was at home - and he was right!

I think the thing about parenting/antenatal classes is that they are a golden opportunity to meet other people who are shortly to be in the same boat as you. Take it for what it is - you will have lots in common once your babies arrive, from problems with breastfeeding, sympathising over night-time wakings tp comparing the contents of your babies' nappies = fascinating topic!! Otherwise, being at home with a baby can be an incredibly isolating experience. Getting out for one afternoon a week with the other mums made a huge difference last time and I will probably catch up with some of them during this maternity leave too. But you're not alone in finding antenatal classes less than a wonderful experience!

Janus · 03/10/2007 16:03

Gosh, this thread wizzes along!
First of all, good luck for Friday Positive, you have reached 12 weeks, that is a milestone, so everything crossed for you.
Goingfor3, the tiredness is a killer isn't it? I had to tell my other 2 children this weekend about being pg as felt I was being a complete waste of space as a mother, have to take myself off to bed or have my head down the toilet! Didn't want to tell them so early, I'm 8 weeks, as afraid if anything goes wrong but feel they need an explanation. Can I ask about your stitch? I had a recent colposcopy as had an abnormal smear which I also had a few years ago resulting in surgery. As a consequence my consultant said I had a 'deficient cervix' and if I was to get pregnant I should let consultant know asap as I may need a stitch. I'm assuming I mention it at my booking in appointment, around 12 to 14 weeks. Is your reason similar and were you advised to do so sooner than that? Would love your advice as at the time when told about this I had been trying for 2 years to get pregnant and wasn't sure it was going to happen so didn't enquire enough. Many thanks.
I hope everyone else is continuing to feel positive and well.

I've added myself too.

Janus - I have no idea when people get a stitch, but would contact you doctor/m/w asap to ask about this. If it were me, I wouldn't leave it to 12 weeks, but we have to go to doctir and then have a booking-in appt at 8 weeks in my HA area. Good luck...

goingfor3 · 03/10/2007 16:13

Hi Janus, sorry to hear you are feeling exhausted too! I didn't have any investigations which caused a problem with my cervix. In my first pregnancy I miscarried at 20 weeks and as the baby was born alive it was assumed I have an incompetent cervix. In my next pregnancies I had my stitch put in between 12 and 16 weeks though it's usually done between 12 and 14. Try to get your booking in appointment sooner to get it organised. It's usually done with a spinal aneathetic and you can go home the next day. It has worked for me and I now how to lovely dd's though last time I got measles a few days after having the stitch and mc'd but the two things were unrelated. Good luck and if you have any other questions ask.

feedmenow · 03/10/2007 16:18

Interesting that you are talking about a/n classes cos I was looking into them earlier today.

I can't believe that the full NCT course on my area is £229!!!!!!!

But I am struggling with this whole thing. dd is 8.4. I did a/n classes whn pg with her. We tried the NCT ones but found we had nothing in common (apart from pg!) with the others so only went to the first! But I did the ones through my Health Centre.

With ds (5.9) I didn't bother at all as I had an elective section.

My problem now is that dp is ds's dad but not dd's, so he's never been to any classes and has no experience of labour. And as I plan a VBAC I think it is important for him to know. But I really don't want to spend over £200 on a refresher for me and a refresher for dp re. post natally, and new stuff for dp on labour. But a refresher course is aimed at women (ie during the day) and is only a refresher as opposed to covering the whole labour and birth bit.

Have looked online for other a/n classes locally but can't find anything! I am stunned that there is nothing my way (I thought it bad enough that I can't find any a/n yoga classes around here!) But I'd really wanted to go to something local so that we could maybe meet some other parents-to-be.....

gingercat12 · 03/10/2007 17:04

I have just booked my anti-natal classes in the hospital. I just want us to see it, I've never really been there (apart from scan).

However I will go to an active birth + singing to bump (hopefully not at the same time) course in the Sage Gateshead concert hall. It should be interesting. Also I suppose very similar people would go there.

EllieG · 03/10/2007 17:16

Well just went to the toilet and I have had some light pink cm so I don't think I will be on this thread for long. I feel so disapointed and sad

Glimmer · 03/10/2007 17:52

Hi Mumpbump and Feedme. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Very good points. I guess I had to high expectations. I was surprised how little the other ladies had thought about their preferences. But once the babies are born there might be more in common. Feedme, they are unbelievable expensive and that much more disappointing it was for me. The problem with the NHS ones is that they are for women only here and I thought it was important to go as a couple since DH doesn't know much about birthing and would like to know more.

Goingfor3 -- I am sorry about your distress. But remember bleeding in early pregnancy is very very common (I had it at your stage for three weeks every day!) and it might just mean that LO is burrowing itself savely in the womb. We all know how distressing it is not to know, but please do not give up the hope just yet!
