Confused I am hairier than ever! My hair is in a layered bob and needs cutting every 4-5 weeks to maintain the style and recently it's been dire after just 4 weeks! Also greasy Hmm

Today I actually left work early, to come home sick as I fell asleep at my desk 3 times this afternoon. Clearly a losing battle! I have come home ill once in the entire course of my working life, which was when I had norovirus and realised I wasn't going to be able to control myself.

Last year I was routinely working 6 and 7 day weeks. Eep! This better not last, I cannot be doing with the loss of productivity.....

FeatherFeather11 · 11/07/2014 18:00

rp poor you! That's awful! Re productivity, think you may have to rethink - this is way more important now and work will be fine! Someone else can pick up the slack a bit. And remember we're always harder on ourselves.

Have a lovely weekend all. I'm off to dodge chicken pox and drink schloer.

RevoltingPeasant · 11/07/2014 20:17

Eurgh that's the thing, they won't/ can't.

I'm an academic and without getting into the gory details, we have to publish so many papers in journals every x years to keep our jobs. Luckily for women academics babies count as papers (not joking, a baby is considered "an output" in career terms which makes me Grin). I basically could really do with getting a paper out this summer so that I can go off on mat leave knowing I don't have to stress when I get back, as I'm presuming work will be pretty disrupted for a year or so!! or eighteen

Trying not to beat myself up, but tbh, it's myself I'm fucking over..... Must Do Better on Monday!

RevoltingPeasant · 11/07/2014 20:19

Enjoy weekend anyhow!

I have one final ultimate shameful confession to make: dinner tonight is chicken nuggets and ketchup Blush

Bunnygirlie · 11/07/2014 22:36

No shame RP that was my lunch! well MaccyDs nuggets and KFC gravy Grin

greatbigbushybeard · 11/07/2014 22:54

Get in rp why not!! My lunch the other day was a croissant and jam! I also with you on the hair front mine, in no way am I less hairy!! More hairy!!

Did anyone get their maternity notes in a great big bounty bag full of ad flyers and a magazine? I was just looking through mine earlier and got a bit freaked out by all the bumps!! I'm sure I read something about bounty being a bit unethical in the way they conduct themselves on maternity wards so am a bit unsure of whether to sign up. You're meant to sign up and then you get free gift bags, anyone done this/got any thoughts on it?

Midwife appt tomorrow.

Just got really annoyed at the end of the film 'unstoppable' where it shows each character and a blurb about what they're now doing, with the Chris pine character it said he is happily married to Darcy and expecting their second child. Just made me really cross all this bullshit that we're fed about marriage and children being the only way to be happy and oops how easy it is to suddenly to get pregnant with the second child and how easily wrapped up it all is. Grrr Angry

RevoltingPeasant · 11/07/2014 22:59

Bounty are evil! Well based on the threads. Look up the Mumsnet Campaign one on the campaign section. Many disturbing stories! Also they will spam you like anything. Our last rental the previous tenant had had a baby and we got baby related crap addressed to her for two years despite returning to sender etc.

I chucked half that stuff in recycling and just kept the patient leaflets, but then I'm not going to buy special air for my baby or whatever rubbish they are touting.

winohhh · 12/07/2014 08:22

Good luck with midwife appointment bushy!

I am also definitely hairier than normal! My nails are lovely and strong though!

I didn't get a bounty pack, they'd run out. Sounds like I can give it a miss though!

Pizza and ice cream for me for dinner last night. Yum! Must try more vegetables today!

Tried the doppler last night, found the heart beat! It's so reassuring!! (For today only most likely!) 11w5d today.

Happy weekend everyone!

RevoltingPeasant · 12/07/2014 08:30

Ooh you found a HB! Lovely :)

Bunnygirlie · 12/07/2014 14:18

To be fair, I don't think I noticed the slow hair growth till a bit later on. I'm also moulting less when I wash my hair.

bushy yep all the Bounty stuff was a big pile of rubbish, I threw it all out, didn't even collect the free stuff from Asda etc.

win if you found the heartbeat already that's awesome! just be careful not to confuse it with your own x

What's everyone up to this weekend?

winohhh · 12/07/2014 15:01

I know bunny, took ages to find the right heartbeat! Unmistakably faster than mine though, about 160. A good tip is to check your pulse, which will be in time with your own heartbeat on the doplar (for anyone considering getting one!!).

CatsCantFlyFast · 12/07/2014 18:58

The bit that's confusing is the placenta vs baby heartbeat...both go at the same fast speed. One is whooshy/wet and one is like a horse/train (clearer more distinct beats)

winohhh · 12/07/2014 19:24

Hmm, not sure then merk. I kind of assumed it was the heartbeat because it sounded like mine only faster. I'll maybe have to have another go now!!

greatbigbushybeard · 13/07/2014 11:15

I 'd get myself in a total muddle winooh with a Doppler. Had my midwife appt yesterday at hospital and dh came too which was lovely. In my own charming vernacular, the shit is starting to get real!! Talking about where I'd like to give birth and whether mid wife or consultant led care. She said I'd be fine under mid wife so we're opting for that. Dating was tricky as she asked date of last period and I've had Ivf. I was told they date from egg collection adding 2 weeks on,so we plumped for that day instead of the withdrawal bleed. I kinda thought she would know that but... I do still totally trust and rate her. We also talked about screening options for downs, we've decided to have nuchal and then go from that, if it's high risk we will reconsider, possibly thinking about harmony. Waiting for date of 12 week, really looking forward to it!!

Went to BBQ last night with friends, I normally do have a drink so made up a sore throat and mouth ulcers, which is partially true, sure needed it as when I said I'm not drinking my friend was like 'why?' In a v curious way!! She knows we have been trying a long time and considering Ivf ( we never actually told people as didn't want the pressure) so every time we meet she asks if I'm drinking!! Dh says it's cus I normally do but I think it's because she's fishing for pg news! Anyway I was driving which also helped. I did have a sip of prosecco but sneakily gave rest of glass to dh!

Bit pooped today but reports to write! Bring on the hols!!

RevoltingPeasant · 13/07/2014 22:55

Ooh MW appt! It is loooong, eh? But good you trust her. I really liked mine!

Had the most atrocious sickness all yesterday evening complete with migraine style headache so ended up taking paracetamol, which I then duly felt guilty about. Fine today, though, and DH made spaghetti and meatballs which I wolfed down as though I hadn't eaten in 24 hours - which was almost true!

I am week 11 tomorrow - eek! It will be so awful if the 12w scan has bad news.....

FeatherFeather11 · 14/07/2014 11:33

Oh no rp - horrible to have a headache on top of the sickness. Are you feeling better today? Hope so. I'm 11 + 3 today and nervous as hell. Booked in for the Harmony blood test and scan tomorrow and hoping all is still ok. So afraid of an mmc.

Great news on your mw appointment bushy! And sounds like you did well at the BBQ. Think my mates all cottoned on this weekend but didn't say anything. At one point some really stinky cheeses were out on the table and I heard one say "is there a hard cheese as feather can't have these ones" - I pretended not to hear!!

win lovely that the Doppler worked. So sweet to be able to find your baby's heartbeat. Flowers

Felt a bit weird this weekend knowing that I should have had a baby by now. It's hard to believe that my edd for the ectopic pregnancy was last weekend - so much has happened since then. My colleague who was due the same week as me had her little girl on Friday and I'm really happy for her, but couldn't help but feel...something. Somebody wang me!

Hope you're all well and enjoying the sunshine.

Sxxx

RevoltingPeasant · 14/07/2014 17:59

Ah you don't need a wang. It is a weird parting of the ways: one baby you would have loved is gone and that trail is not going anywhere, but you're setting off on a different path with this one. Natural to have a wistful look over your shoulder Flowers

Yes am much better today but still worked at home. Does anyone else feel really, I don't know, frumpy? I just feel all bloated and tired and ungroomed somehow.

Had my maternity bloods today - I.e. not Harmony but all the tests for rubella immunity, blood type etc etc. Also I think they use those results for the Downs screening....? Or is it literally just observation of the nuchal fold?

Anyhow 12w scan a week tomorrow! Eek.....

CatsCantFlyFast · 14/07/2014 21:59

RP they use bloods and the nuchal combined to give the downs result. I suspect they'll take the blood for that separately at your scan though
First tri is def frumpy. You don't look pregnant but you're bloated and hormonal and sick. It gets better Grin

greatbigbushybeard · 14/07/2014 22:25

Arr rphas put bit really nicely re the path of one and the wistful look back feather.

Hmm, yes I did feel a bit frumpy and fat but dh made next feel a lot better by saying nice things to bolster my self esteem so I thought well if he thinks I like nice then so should I.. I think merkin has got it right with the bloated, hormonal bit. It's also that you're starting to not fit into your clothes and wearing looser things, as the wrong thing can make you look chumbawumba!! I got my haircut last week and felt sooo much better after, totally recommend that. Maybe getting nails done or new makeup might have same effect too.

Feeling really tight and twingey today in tummy. Also feels quite heavy as if I could do with a band or something to support it!! Do they do things like that? Also has anyone tried waist extenders for their trousers? Where do you get them from?

Arr bless your friends feather.

CatsCantFlyFast · 15/07/2014 08:43

They do do pregnancy support belts but I shouldn't expect they'll fit for a while (plus they're horrible and make you sweat). Waist extenders either eBay or amazon. And you'll want some long vests (H&M are best IMO) or something called a belly band to conceal the fact your trousers are undone
Can we have a new list...I've lost track
Oh and I need to beg you again to join Facebook and the group as I need to see bump pics (ps, make sure there are lots of photos of you pregnant, you will regret it if there aren't )

winohhh · 15/07/2014 10:02

Feather, good luck with the scan and blood test!!! Let us know how it goes.

Bushy, glad you had a positive experience with booking in! Not tried the waist extenders yet, although everything is getting a bit tight. I'm just picking my most forgiving trousers to wear at the mo!

Sorry the sickness and headaches are bad RP. My nausea seems to be improving, although did have a spell of dry retching this morning.

I defo feel frumpy and unattractive. And fat. I've not put on much weight, but definitely look podgier. Good idea about a hair cut bushy.

FeatherFeather11 · 15/07/2014 11:38

With you all on the frumpy and unattractive feeling. Feel like I need a whole new wardrobe but it would be silly to shop now.

Harmony scan and bloods done! Was such a relief to see the little bean wriggling about and hear a heartbeat! Can't believe it's all ok so far. OH started blubbing - so sweet! Got scan pics and everything! Now the wait for the big 12 week scan, and the private nuchal scan and blood results - all on July 29. I'll be 12+4 then. Sheesh!

How's everyone else?

winohhh · 15/07/2014 12:08

Yay!! Great news feather!! I have my next scan on Monday, it's my second harmony one. I'll be 13 weeks. I forgot to check how we get the blood results. Did they tell you feather? In the post or at the appointment? I'm starting to feel the scan doom already! DH wouldn't let me use the doppler last night. He's very strict!!

yorkiebilb · 15/07/2014 12:20

Fantastic news feather!!! You must be ecstatic! Grin

Good luck for next week win

yorkiebilb · 15/07/2014 12:23

Oh and I got my waist extenders from Amazon. Oh and bra extenders as well (brilliant invention!)
