PoppyS34wantstogohome · 01/06/2012 15:28

Afternoon ladies, sorry for silence but this week has gone by in a blur as you can probably imagine.

Minipop has has a good first four days, he's still breathing on his own, peed and pooed. I've helped clean him and have had some kangaroo cuddles.

They're upping his feeds, which are still by tube, so hopefully that'll help him grow bigger & stronger and in a couple of weeks I might even be able to feed him myself.

I am being discharged today, three weeks after I was first admitted. Can't stop crying at thought of leaving him and also for putting him in this position in the first place.
Think my hormones are all over the place at the moment!! :)

Can someone send me a link to the FB group (or an invite) and I will add a couple of pics.

Still no name at the moment.

I promise to catch up on all the posts when I get home and am back on my laptop & proper wifi.

McBaby fingers crossed it all settles down for you, and no more 30 weekers xxxx

Lovemarmite · 01/06/2012 15:46

Hi Poppy
Great to hear minipop is doing well - great news! I would find it hard to leave him too and so thinking of you but I bet he'll be with you very soon!

Send frilly a message on here and she'll send you a FB invite...
Thanks and Wine xx

vanimal · 01/06/2012 15:48

Poppy thats fab news, MiniPop sounds like he's a strong little lad! You must be relieved to being discharged, hopefully your hormones and thoughts will settle down once you are home again.

I don't have the FB link, hopefully someone can help you with that?

Looking forward to the Bank Holiday, I love this jubilee stuff, and am planning on taking the DDs into town to see some of the celebrations tomorrow morning. The town library has a fab kids program on for the day, which I am looking forward to.

Just trying to rest lots and keep calm with DDs, I'm trying to keep them occupied and not worry about housework etc, a nice calming strategy for the long weekend and the following half term. I hope it lasts, they are being really good for me so far, so I can rest and MN for a bit.

I also have that wonky belly thing going on, baby's kicks and movements are feeling very strong now.

As to feeling weepy - I nearly cried in the library this morning. Why? Because they had a lovely display up of the Queen's 60th year, including a pic of her with her parents when she was first born. I felt like an idiot, managed to disguise it, and scuttled off dragging the DDs behind me!

0FrillyKnickers0 · 01/06/2012 15:57

Yay Poppy! I?m so glad that he is doing so well! A pee and a poo, something every mother should be proud of Wink

I?ve messaged Poppy telling her my name and to add me on FB so I can add her to the group.

Hope you are all having a good day? IT?S THE WEEKEND AND BANK HOLDAY AND I HAVE NEXT WEEK OFFFFFFF!! WOOOOOO!

hamncheese · 01/06/2012 16:29

Aww poppy that's so good to hear that minipop is doing well :) can't wait to see picture of the little guy!

Sorry to hear of all the trouble mcbaby hoping things settle for you.

Tried in vain to call the midwife today. I'm convinced that either all who work in the NHS are deaf to ring noises or they just lock the phones in rooms where no-one is because, seriously, WHY DO THEY NEVER EVER ANSWER THE PHONE!!!? Ugh. Anyway the other phone number is for maternity assessment and I don't know whether to call it or not. Been feeling dizzy again this afternoon. I worked on house stuff and felt fine the whole time, then took a shower and went out to uni and then to shops on the way home and started feeling rubbish, dizzy, sick etc. Think it's a doing too much thing? Or heat again as it's sunny and was really hot at uni. I don't know. Don't want to call the assessment number as that's the one they ask you call in an emergency or in labour Confused.

Anyone had cravings for ice? I've been wanting to chew up ice cubes the last few days. Things on internet linking this to low iron too. Ahhh why didn't the just answer the phone!

sc0ttishlass · 01/06/2012 16:34

poppy - such great news for us all to start the weekend off, that Minipop is doing well... so pleased!

happy weekend all ;)

ps - I havent had the tears yet but am waiting on them as seem to be a common occurence - what I am having is the fact that DH is irritating me with his lack of understanding about how we need to get organised - everything can wait or yes, we will do that - eh, when????

but anyway - everythign seems better on a friday!

xx

dragonleo · 01/06/2012 16:57

Congratulations Poppy. Must be such an emotional rollercoaster. Have a good weekend xx

McBaby · 01/06/2012 17:05

hamsndcheese I would call the assessment unit before they go home for the day to reassure you before the weekend. They get lots of calls and will give you advice on what to do even I they are not the right people to deal with it ( listened to them take lots of calls about all sorts of things when in there all day on wed).

Lovemarmite · 01/06/2012 17:41

Ham it could be doing too much and a heat thing as I get all those symptoms but I would call the assessment unit or your doctors or if there is a maternity triage near you? I only know of a triage as it's being trialled here and so not sure if it's available elsewhere or what it is, but I think it's a call in place miles away from me in Hastings.

You could have some power food too - dried apricots, raisins, figs, oily fish or a cereal fortified with iron, leafy greens... plus some vit C. If you eat meat, turkey and lean red meat too.
I have been eating tons of 'iron foods' the past few days and rather like my orange juice with spatone and lentils. hmm not together though! only thing is, calcium can inhibit iron absorption and so best not to have dairy at the same time and so I've been trying to space out each vitamin/mineral loading meal - hmm, seem to be eating all the time :o

Hope you're feeling less faint - feet up and a nice cup of herbal tea Brew

WelshLadyCDF · 01/06/2012 18:07

frilly can you pm me the fb page please.

fairtradelu · 01/06/2012 18:09

Me too please frilly

ChicBabyP · 01/06/2012 18:56

Ok, this is really strange because I feel like I know you all already but you have no idea who I am!!! Blush I've been reading this thread ever since it started but never even signed up to mumsnet, let alone posted!
I feel really stupid to jump in now, so late in our pregnancies, but I thought better late than never as I've really enjoyed following all of you during this special time.
I've got 2 different due dates, Aug 5th and 8th, but I am sticking to the first one, and this is DC1. My first tri was difficult but since then, all's been good.I am now 30+5, baby is moving a lot and I find it really reassuring, and we haven't found out the flavour.

Poppi, congratulation for minipop and so happy to read he is doing well. I can only imagine how hard it must be to go home and leave him, but he is in the best care possible. Take care of yourself.

Mcbaby, those contractions sound scary, I hope they settle and baby stays nice and warm where it is for a while longer.

Mrsm, enjoy the ruby wedding celebrations, and those yummy cakes!!!

ham, I've also been feeling faint this last week, not sure what it's due too. My blood pressure has been perfect the whole pregnancy, and I've been taking iron sups (350mg or something like that) since the beginning of the 2nd tri, so I really don't know what it could be... I hope you manage to get in touch with the MW.

Ok, I'll stop here for now, wouldn't want to scare all of you in thinking I know everything about everyone on this thread runs away before anyone calls the dogs on the stalker :o

Have a lovely jubilee weekend everyone Crown

babbashouse · 01/06/2012 18:56

Me too please frilly! x

babbashouse · 01/06/2012 18:58

Poppy, you're so ridiculously brave. I don't know whether you remember but we're due date buddies. Haven't been on here for a while and just seen all your posts. Me and bump send our best wishes to you and your little one. Well done you for being so amazing, and excellent news on the pee and poo! xxx

0FrillyKnickers0 · 01/06/2012 19:27

I'm so tired! And hungry...waiting waiting waiting for a BBQ, resisting the temptation to eat all the biscuits I just bought...argh!

Food is LITERALLY all I can think about! Biscuits, meat, crisps, bread, lemon curd....mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

ImissMiniPop · 01/06/2012 19:32

I am home. Just landed in a heap of hormones, tears and snot Blush I felt so bad leaving the poor little mite, but I know he is in the best possible place and I am pleased to be in my own bed, rather than hospital. Three weeks is a long time to be away from home.

Ham please call, they won't mind. Better to get checked out than not.

I am really concerned about getting back to the hospital over the weekend, it's going to be difficult tomorrow and I think impossible to get to on Sunday as all the roads around it are shut due to the boat thing. The curse of living in central london :(

x x

hamncheese · 01/06/2012 19:32

Thanks guys, in the end I called NHS24 for advice as they are always pretty helpful and answer their bloody phones!! Went through all the q's and such and the guy then called the maternity assessment team to confer and decided that unless I feel any worse like dizzy all the time or actually faint, and there is not a headache/palpitations etc then to monitor over the weekend and try again to get MW next week. They also said if I can't get MW call GP and they will contact for me/get me an appointment. It's annoying as I see my MW at a clinic that's only on thurs and fri am so doubt I'll get her. I'm hoping you are right marmite and it's been a combo of doing too much and being too warm! Will definatley follow your lead on the iron foods to be safe. Had mince yesterday so that's good, going to grab lots of dried apricots tomorrow :)

Thanks also chic... you seem to nice to be a stalker so welcome! Even if it is late on we are going to have a post-natal group too.

I think I have a message from frilly for the facebook page... kind of nervy about outing myself to you all now and excited to see you all hehehe... here goes Grin

Westcountrylovescheese · 01/06/2012 19:33

Hi all! Sorry been quiet lately. Had a bit of a worry as I found out I am not immune to toxomoplasis and may have been at risk when looking after DCat in his last days. Midwife has been great and have had more bloods taken today and has reassured me that its very unlikely but she's doing more tests to calm me down more than anything...

For all those who can't sleep, I am finding that after my pregnancy yoga class I have the best night sleep, would definately recommend.

Is anyone using perineum (spelling?) gel? Instructions on the packet are to use for six weeks before delivery. I think Poppy has proved that that could be anytime so I'm starting now... Has anyone used this before? Does it work?

GTT results came back normal, phew.

McBaby · 01/06/2012 19:44

Has anyone else got morning sickness symptoms back. :(

panpipe · 01/06/2012 20:12

Welcome home Poppy. Minipop will know you're not leaving him for long. Get a good night's sleep in your own bed tonight and good luck for Jubilee craziness.

Welcome to the thread Chic!

I haven't been using perineum gel/oil yet West but was planning to do so soon. There's a good exercise to do as well which is supposed to help it stretch - get on all fours and bring your right foot up next to your right hand then rock/squat forwards and back, then repeat on left side. It's a good labour position too apparently.

I've given in and gone to bed! 8pm on a Friday; how lame is that? Definitely think I've done too much this week and last night's concert probably didn't help. I've had no appetite all day, felt sick the whole train journey home and nearly burst into tears in the middle of the station because someone bumped into me! Even if I don't sleep yet I'm just enjoying the chill out!

ishopthereforeiam · 01/06/2012 20:42

Welcone chic! which hospital are you at?

poppy you and mini pop have done sooooo well! Hopef the bad weather puts people off jubilee stuff andvyou can tube it to visit?

Much bettervday thanks love although spent most of it in traffic (!)

west I tried almond oil perineal massage with pg1. It works for some but I still ended up with a 3rd dg tear (sorry if tmi!) but I'd say no harm in trying, may work better for you!

Think I had Braxton hicks today, felt mini contractions while at burger king Blush (was craving a whopper jr)... And also when driving. Are they like abdominal tightness and you can't move ( much like contractions but less powerful?) didn't get them with pg1 Hmm

OP posts:
NeedlesCuties · 01/06/2012 21:08

Sending Poppy a Brew and a hug!

West I did all the perineal massage stuff when pregnant with DS and ended up with a bad 2nd degree tear and a referral for surgery due to it not healing for 7 months Shock Sorry if TMI, I did a thread in Childbirth about it a few months ago. Honestly I don't think the tear was anything to do with doing the massages, and the non-healing was due to dodgy stitches I think.... Anyway, I do not want that to happen with this labour!

McBaby my morning sickness never went away! >wry smile<

Right, sorry for the moan Blush I'm off now to be a grump somewhere else.

Also tried perineum oil massage with DD1 and ended up with an episiostomy (excuse spelling)!
My bump is weirdly on the right, I actually think baby maybe transverse but mw appt not till 13th June when I'll be 30weeks, not seen one since week 16! They really take great care of you in 3rd pregnancy!!
Poppy so pleased you are home, take this time to really heal and remember minipop is in the best possible place, he'll be home soon enough.
Ishop that's exactly what a braxton hicks is like, I get about 20 a day and have been since week 18 or so, quite uncomfortable, but, have to say, not similar to actual labour contractions at all.
Hope everyone has a gorgeous weekend, it's DS2's 4th birthday on Monday so have 24 kids in my house with an entertainer, and a street party the day before so hectic here!!!

susiegrapevine · 01/06/2012 21:35

poppy glad to hear your home! You have every right to cry as much as you like you've been through a lot i dunno how you've managed it but minipop will be fine and hopefully you can find your way through london to visit him over the weekend.

west i sense a theme i did nothing with my perineum didn't know you could! And i had one tiny tear which they did not put any degrees on just slight tear and a labeil (sp?) tear which prob hurt more as really stung when i peed they said it was prob caused by the fact his hand was by his head when he came out so nothing i could do about that. So it seems the people who did the massage tore lots and i didn't but could be coincidence!

Just been out for all you can eat chinese for my mum's birthday now very very full!! Gaviscon is waiting by the bed! Ds has been really fussy today and clingy and have no idea why!
