Thanks, will look at a few more babygros soon...
Ooo the changing bag was a real luxury, we met up with some friends who's baby is 18 months and so I had lots of questions and I kind of fell in love with her bag... so got home, saw it was expensive and kind of convinced DH that it was the one that wouldn't fall apart, tear, had a resale value etc etc! He gave in. It's an Orly Keily one and the idea is to sell on ebay afterwards... hmm maybe eh?! It was a definite 'cheer up' purchase around a difficult time.

Thinking the Angelcare looks like a very good one. Expensive but one reviewer on Amazon said it was worth it in the first week as it saved their LO life... okay, that is a very powerful review!!! Shock

Lovemarmite · 30/05/2012 17:08

Just had real grumps at the receptionist at my doctors as a mw gave them a garbled message about me not wanting to take iron tablets... errr no! I just don't want to get constipated and so really want ones that don't make you bunged up as my belly is hurting tons at the moment anyway. I was really grotchety to her and so have asked her to see if the doctor can prescribe some amino acid chelation ones - to which I know the answer will be 'NO'! Ha ha ha... hmm.
My low ferritin levels (7) says I have no iron stores and so I have to have something. Has anyone found some good iron supps that don't constipate that actually raised your ferritin?

The doctor tablets are 2x 200mg of iron, whereas 2x Spatone and Floradix is only 15 mg each... but if you take the doctors tablets, only 1mg is proven to actually raise your reading and so I'll be on them for 4 weeks at least to get me to 11 which is the lowest end of acceptable. To make it more complicated, spatone says that 40% is absorbed and so making them better than the docs but I don't think I can trust it if I really need to bump my iron stores. Hmm.

vanimal · 30/05/2012 17:25

Lovemarmite, let me know how you get on, I am on ferritin tablets 3xdaily and they do make me constipated when I remember to take all 3 doses in a day.

I have an iron level of 11 and it's not shifting at all. I am super-tired and keen to raise levels but don't want to take spatone on top of iron tabs just in case.

Lovemarmite · 30/05/2012 17:36

Will do vanimal!
I can see that I might give in to 'will get me constipated' ones if I can't get an alternative asap.

Funny thing, since being pg, I have been really 'fiesty' and have managed to get two free pairs of expensive knickers, a free £10 gift voucher from White company, a free £10 gift voucher from M&S... last week, £8 from JL in gift vouchers, double refund and a free bottle of olive oil as a 'sorry' from A&C.. oh dear, what has become of me?!!

panpipe · 30/05/2012 17:50

Woo go marmite! My gran used to be the queen of complaining; I remember one Christmas we got 2 massive catering sized gateaux after she complained to the bakers about something or other!

I definitely need another shopping mission - I was fairly happy that we'd got loads at the nearly new sale in March but now realised that apart from a few vests and babygros I haven't got anything else since! Changing bag, changing mat, monitor and nappies next then I'll try to curb my enthusiasm again! Oh and suppose I should also think about emergency hospital bag in case home birth doesn't go according to plan. And not to mention birth pool for home... Getting to 30 weeks has focused me all of a sudden!

Had a bit of a bleurgh day at work today. I think general tiredness and heat got to me and I started feeling really sick and light headed this morning. Could really do with a day off but we're so busy I dread the catching up after! Roll on 4 day weekend!

0FrillyKnickers0 · 30/05/2012 18:50

To those of you who are constipated, Fybogel is great! Mix with water, down it and you'll be back to normal by evening. Take 2 a day if needed. Smile

panpipe you're not the only one who has had a bleugh day! I got home and cried for no major reason at all! Work is just stressing me out a bit. I have this one colleague who seems to be taking the piss mick a bit. She has made some huge errors and no one is pulling her up on it! So freaking annoying!

geekette · 30/05/2012 19:46

Poppy has a minipop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations mi dear! and well done on keeping you head above water and please stay on thread!

I've forgotten who wanted info on back carry... apparently infants stop wriggling once they get into the carry position. no idea why.. but i am guessing in the beginning someone will help get them into that position and hold them there :)

Good luck to Mr. Frilly!

Needles loving the list but poppy's bub needs to be a may date Wink

Have to admit, had to sort out work/life balance really early on so really feel in the zone now... negotiated rests without having to use holidays too. good luck to all those sorting it out now!

Phew, this thread zips through life, time and space!

ishopthereforeiam · 30/05/2012 22:29

Nice work on the work/life balance geekette I seem to be far busier now since I've quit work!

Don't blame you on the iron tablets love had gem with pg1 and they make your poo black too Blush tmi sorry!

Got the pram sorted a while back as we needed a tandem so went with phil&teds... Have put dd's silver cross on ebay so hopefully so one can love it as much as I do!

Other than that I bought one pack of baby grows but nothing else for when he first arrives, guess I should have a sort out!! Not even thought about hospital bag yet...

tashaw28 · 30/05/2012 22:42

lovemarmite anaemia is my specialist subject!!! Been anaemic for 2 years and they've told me I have to stay on iron until menopause, gulp.
Anyway the only tablets that don't kill my stomach (and I've tried the lot) are Fersaday. They have 1000mg in 1 tablet, cost £2 for a months supply and, although they do slightly constipate me they don't cause any stomach cramps. They also come in disgusting liquid form so uncanny take 1/2 or 1/4 dose easily. I'm also taking pregnacare still so Am on 1011mg of iron a day! Bloods better not show low iron this pregnancy!!!

ffscatmove · 31/05/2012 07:49

Blimey Tashaw! That's a lot of iron.... I was about to recommend bran flakes for breakfast, I've been having them nearly every day since I got bunged up in the first trimester & have been fine since - they're fortified with iron too so may help? I have a vague recollection that you shouldn't take iron tablets with tea but can't remember why - think either the caffeine or the tannin stop you absorbing it Confused
Anyway, just wanted to boast I slept for 7 1/2 hours non stop HURRAY! so as am back in work today I have high hopes of making it through the day without sobbing or otherwise having a meltdown!
Anyway, have a lovely day ladies!

NeedlesCuties · 31/05/2012 08:26

Hello!

It has been raining here all night, goodbye lovely sunshine!

geekette I am way ahead of you... the day that Poppy had her LO I updated and also posted the list to say he'd been born Grin I'm no dozer.

Lovemarmite · 31/05/2012 08:44

Thank you, thank you, thank you tashaw on the iron recommendation. Will probably be phoned by my doctor today and then will see if I can get them tomorrow when I go to town. Really want to do what's right despite my fear of more constipation! I googled iron deficiency in pregnancy and (bad mistake) it can be pretty bad for bubs too... so she's coming first no matter what.

way to go ffscatmove! Me too sleeping better - way hay! Managed almost straight through apart from the shouting, all covers off DH, screaming and jumping around the bedroom for the 4.30 obligatory cramp!

Hope everyone has a good day x

panpipe · 31/05/2012 09:21

tashaw I'd stay away from any large magnets if I were you. That's a lot of iron!

Poor Frilly, sometimes you just need a cry. I did yesterday while I had my head over the loo at work Confused. Boss had a bit of a go at me too for not doing something yet but I just haven't had the time! Can you take a day off for some me time? I must admit I've been trying not to but think it's needed!

We have a concert at work tonight with a member of the royal family attending so cue everyone's stress levels! I'm not the biggest royal fan so not bothering me! [gets carted off to the tower for treason...]

MrsMigginslovespies · 31/05/2012 09:24

Ok, am jealous of all the sleeping. I got BUGGER ALL last night and am exhausted as a result. Can't decide whether it was the "Treat" Indian we had for supper or something else but it was truly awful. Had terrible reflux, then indigestion, then needed loo about a million times. DH also had reflux and we argued about the bed, the light, the heat...! I went downstairs to rest on sofa and he told me off! Poor DH Smile, think he's fed up with me and my night wanderings! Finally came back up later and rested on maternity pillow and dozed until 0800. Finally got up, looked at recipes for ruby wedding weekend stuff, made toast and tea and put a wash on. Am going to tweak a raspberry meringue roulade recipe for pudding tomorrow night then also make some chocolate refridgerator cake thing which is lush and has about a million calories per slice. Will have a nap later on methinks!

Anyhoo, found out that the baby is taking 250mg of calcium each day at the mo. That's a lot, so am upping my milk intake as don't want my teeth to crumble. Also need to check iron, but hoping my pregnacare have that covered.

Sorry for long tedious no-sleeping post. Hope you are all ok today and am waving at Poppy and minipop! Hope you're both doing ok today and you get some more little cuddles.

x

ishopthereforeiam · 31/05/2012 09:32

Envy of anyone who can sleep more than two hours straight! I am with mrsm - slept for an hour and a half (12 - 1.30am) then woke up virtually every hour or two sometimes for two hours. Doesn't seem to make a difference if I daytime nap or not. Reflux coming and going, not as bad as it has been but really struggle when I try to bend over (tried cleaning the floor this am urgh)...

Anyone-else just plain fed up of being pregnant now? I know we're on the home stretch but I am sooooo over being pg just want to lose the bump and start returning to life as normal(ish - managing two under twos I suppose)!

OP posts:
hamncheese · 31/05/2012 10:16

YES ishop YES! I want the end. I want my baby. I want to have already written 10,000 words for my PhD! Argh!

I'm getting pretty uncomfy now. For some reason last week in the heat I was fine but this week has been bad. So sore after like 4pm, baby feet in ribs, expanding and looking like a beached whale. Find to move anywhere I basically have to roll. I roll off the sofa, roll into the car, roll to try and grab anything more than 1/2 foot away from me Blush. Was finally getting over the insomnia last week (think the heat made me so tired I did sleep) and now I can sleep but it's so distrupted as I get comfy and then the baby starts battering me for lying on my side/front and squishing the bump a bit. So I move and baby is comfy but I'm not! And if I FINALLY do get something that suits the both of us, baby gives me a nod on the bladder and I have to get up again anyway.

All I want right now is my baby in it's sling strapped onto my surprisingly-quick-to-return-to-it's-old-shape body and then to lie on my front for a very very long time Grin

In other news I just made a mountain of moussaka and put it in tubs for the freezer for post-baby easy meals! mmmm

29+5 and EXPLODING out of my own skin! Hope you all have a good day!

Lovemarmite · 31/05/2012 10:17

Ooo pants to not sleeping! I've had it for weeks and then suddenly bam, a few good nights and so celebrated them! Maybe was soo whacked out and body said darn, let's get that sleep!
LO seems to be asleep all that time too as it takes her awhile to awake in the mornings as the sleep has been heavy. Oh dear, hope I'm not making you jealous now?!

MrsM maybe your indian just didn't go down well with both you and your DH? When we had some fish & chips a while ago, DH and I had a big row afterwards and we both felt rubbish in the belly - it seemed to bring out anger as an emotion as a side effect of maybe too much grease etc. Might seem a bit whacky but before being pg I was seeing an ayurvedic doctor and my diet changed and I felt soooo relaxed as my food was all calming. Something in diet and emotion, I'm sure!
Hmm your dessert sounds truly scrummy! You've inspired me, I might have to make a cake or something naughty at the weekend.

ishop I agree! Yesterday I was sooo peeved at being pg, today a little happier and not so pained at moving around... not quite sure how to get through the next 10 weeks, gulp. I hope there'll be some good days in there :o

pintofmilk · 31/05/2012 10:33

Hello All, sorry not been on for ages and got LOADS to read!

First of all CONGRATULATIONS Poppy hope you and your family are ok and you have had more cuddles.

Will read all your updates and post back later.

MrsMigginslovespies · 31/05/2012 10:59

I'm sure there's a lot in that Love. I have to be quite careful with greasy food anyway, and I had a korma last night (not a fan of spicy anyway) so it was probably too rich. Just had a nice peach however and plan to take it easy and mild today, esp with all the weekend feasting coming up.

I'm still loving my bump, but it is uncomfy and the reflux isn't nice.

Just been turned down too for Maternity Allowance due to stupid self employment status and not earning enough over past few months, so either I can get Employment benefit or nowt. Makes me bit sad to think I spent so much in tax when I worked for the government for 10 years but now get nothing, despite paying NI comtributions etc. Never mind, will muddle through, and it was my decision not to work last year due to voluntary redundancy payment and health stuff, but still bit galling.

Will report back on roulade/cake status later. Baking always cheers me up!

tashaw28 · 31/05/2012 11:14

Ha ha love the magnet comment!
Can't wait to sleep on my front Sad
Just parked in carpal at work, within white lines, but couldn't get out of car as bump was too big Sad embarrassing. Had to reverse and park elsewhere.

ishopthereforeiam · 31/05/2012 12:50

yummmm moussaka ham that reminds me I really should make the most of my days and cook somethings up for post baby when I won't get any time! You're so organised! I also roll off the sofa (fromlying down to all fours on teh carpet which makes dh laugh!)

Sorry to hear that mrsm I can't begin to imagine how frustrating it is. Tax and NI cost sooo much and to get nothing back seems so unfair.

By the way, you lovely ladies made me question my iron pills, checked the iron again and it's actually 100mg!!!!! Ooops. But in true clumsy pregnancy form I dropped the sugar bowl whilst checking and it's everywhere in my kitchen now! Nevermind, that's not as annoying as Monday when I locked the car keys in my car and DH had to courier his keys from work!!!!!

ishopthereforeiam · 31/05/2012 13:48

Ah tash my dd (18months) locked herself in the cat and dh had to come hone from work (!) Lol. Hopefully lots of spinach and steak will help with the iron?

warzonemummy · 31/05/2012 14:57

dear comrades, I feel like death today. I barely slept last night tossing and turning and toilet visits :( same as all of you. then has severe hunger so went and had some eggs at around 8 and since then just reflux and acidity and stomachache. It is now almost 630pm here and I have not had a moment of peace.

alisonmcg · 31/05/2012 15:34

Just to add to the general feeling on here today I may actually commit murder at work today!!!Angry I'm assuming I'll be able to get away with it by blaming pregnancy hormones yes??!
