Hello! :o

Marking my place with a Brew and a Biscuit

Loupee · 17/04/2012 10:32

Hello, don't think I've been on since the first thread! Kept meaning to pop back on, but always felt rather daunted by the long threads!
Hope you are all well, will aim to be a better poster Smile

The3Bears · 17/04/2012 10:38

Hello,
Hope everyone is well today :) welcome back loupee

littlelamb1980 · 17/04/2012 11:08

Thanks for the shiny new thread ishop! Hi everyone, hope everyone is doing well.
I have to agree about the lack of nice gender neutral clothing. I'm having a boy and luckily blue is one of my fave colours but don't want him dressed in the pale pastel blue that most shops seem to stock. I actually came across a thread on MN about lack of bright coloured clothes for boys and there were some great websites posted that I have bookmarked and i think they have some lovely girl things too. Some are quite expensive but am hoping they will have some sales prior to August Grin! I've never tried to post links before but here goes:

I hope those have worked, happy shopping Grin

Panpipe (from your post in part 3) I love Winne the Pooh, always have done since I was little, so I'm thinking this might creep into Bump's room (when we finally have a room to put him in of course!). I also like the Disney WTP characters as they're quite bright and cheerful :)

Hey Loupee waves

Lamb thanks for the links - this is just TOO cute www.tobytiger.co.uk/rompers/romper-organic-bluegreen-elephants.html :o

Helloo part 4 Biscuit biscuits for all and sundry

Wondering do any of your have/use pinterest? I do, so if you want to be my lofty picture-based aspiration buddy on it let me know :)

Just remembered our number 1 unisex design: Very Hungry Catepillar! Found a set of vests/sleep suits in TKMaxx but saw similar in Tesco too. Also H&M kids section had some good unisex stuff last time I was in. Got a frog outfit hehe Grin

Also for the craft minded among you, you can make 2x flat cot sheets and 4x flat upper sheets for a cot size bed (120x60cm) from a double duvet cover. I had a plain white one with little swirly patterns on it from before we got a king size bed which I just but into the two halves (front and back) which I then took and halved again to make the two flat sheets/quartered to make the 4 upper sheets. Just sewed them in around the edges by double folding an inch strip underneath. Good saving if you have the time as getting 3 sheets from johnlewis value range was £20 (think it took me about 1.5hrs in all to do).

Anyway I'm off for a bath then heading into town to try and find a MIL appropriate birthday present!

WelshLadyCDF · 17/04/2012 12:30

lamb thanks for the links have just got a tiny denim dress in the sale at Polarnopyret. x

hamncheese · 17/04/2012 12:34

Oh also from the last thread it was me who made the list based on collating info from websites/here etc. I don't have the original copy it'll be on either late on the due in aug pt2 thread or earlier on pt3 I think. I basically altered it for my own needs so it won't be conclusive for if you plan to bottle feed etc but here it is (after I unmessed it up with my own things). Honestly as well we have bought a lot of other bits and bobs that are not on here but it is a basics list and we were able to get more things as many of the big items are being bought as presents. We also have borrowed a bouncy chair, moses basket and such from a close friend which cut costs.

Essential ? for baby:
Lie-flat buggy
Car seat
Cot
Cot Mattress
Cot sheets
Several blankets
Clothing: 7-10 bodysuits/vests; 2-3 sleepsuits; cardigan; few bibs; mittens/socks

sc0ttishlass · 17/04/2012 12:42

had a panic for some reason couldnt find the new thread there!

ham - thanks for the list again - i love lists and definately need help on creating this one.. i am clueless! oh and good idea for tkmax - i forgot they often have good (reasonable) baby stuff...

pintof - re your last post in thread 3 - wetting myself at the nightmares you have been having - breastfeeding a litter of puppies! I wonder why we get nightmares! will they just put that down to hormones changing too!!

chat later :)

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 12:52

Thanks so much for the list ham :o Another fan of lists here...!

MrsMigginslovespies · 17/04/2012 13:14

Hurrah, part 4 here we come! DH and I got some great stuff at TK Maxx a couple of weeks ago. I suspect it's a case of popping in if there's one nearby often, as it can be hit and miss.

Thanks for lists, Ham and LittleLamb. I've got a friend who is about to pop any day and want to know after the event what she found essential for her hospital bag. Will also ask my sister and post a list of that too if people would like?

Here's what I've got so far:

Sleeping bags/grobags (for when a bit bigger)
Swaddles (for tiny)
Baby blanket (mine when I was little)
Various bodysuits/sleepsuits in different sizes, but need to buy some really tiny ones I think. Sister also donating some fo hers, hurrah.
Muslins x7 (one is massive)
Nappies
Wipes
Burts Bees wash and barrier cream
Neals Yard cream kindly given by auntie
Sponges
Bibs
Mittens
Socks and gorgeous slippers for autumn
Silver Cross travel system
MAM starter kit bottles (self sterilising in microwave)

Still to get (but have decided):
Ikea nursery set
Moses basket (sister's but will buy new mattrew from JL)
bath (from sister)
Babygym
bouncy chair (SIL buying as pressie)
Nursery thermometer
Baby monitor (what are your thoughts on which one to get? Sister loves her Angel one, but there are tons out there to choose)
Sling/carrier
Nipple cream and pads
Maternity pads
Coming home outfit
And probably loads of other things I've not thought about!

Sorry, this has become v long now I started thinking about it all Wink

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 13:35

Don't apologise MrsM all these lists are really useful. :)

I can't remember if we talked about this on Part 3 - but how do you know what size nappies to buy? Blush

Loislane78 · 17/04/2012 13:58

Yep, keep the lists coming!

Nappies - I'm going for a few packs size 1's and that's it for now. Live v close to Sainsburys so DP will be sent on regular little fetch missions errands :)

Question about baby clothes, jackets and the like. Its hardly the Sahara in August but wondering what everyone is getting re. outer wear? Those 'snow suits' look a bit thick for Aug/Sept (unless we're really unlucky!) so was thinking little jacket with hat and a pram cover/blanket? Obviously weather dependent but bit unsure what to get....

Thoughts? :)

Powderpink2012 · 17/04/2012 14:06

Lois I've just bought a couple of outer wear bits. I agree that the snow suits are too heavy but you do sometimes get the odd chilly day. The bits I got were from Baby Gap and they had jackets and trousers that were more padded than normal clothes but not to the extent of winter clothes.... They were also in the sale!!

I have been looking at bouncers today and came across bambeanos. Has anyone had one and would you recommend????

PictureThis · 17/04/2012 14:08

I've bought baby a little padded knitted jacket with hood, a hat and a blanket for outer wear in August/September. I've also got a thicker pramsuit for autumn.

The3Bears · 17/04/2012 14:12

loislane I have got 1 snowsuit thats 0-3 months not going to get another though, I have a couple of jackets aswell so I think if its warm a jacket, hat and a blanket should be fine :)

I have a few size 1 nappies and a few size 2 (got alot when sainsburys had a baby week not long ago) ds1 was 7lb6oz and he was in size 1 for well over a month but some people say not to get to many size 1 in case baby is big but size 2 were huge on him and he was about average size.
Loving all the lists!
mrsmiggins about baby monitors, I also want to get one but absolutley clueless about them as never had one with ds1 so if anyone has any recomendations please let us know :)

The3Bears · 17/04/2012 14:17

I got this last week for baby www.mamasandpapas.com/product-acqua-two-stage-ergo-bath-pearl-white/4538472/type-i/ as we had a regular baby bath with ds1 and it was horrible as we both had to bath him as he had no support (we bought the baby support things but found they were useless), this has great reviews so im hoping it will be a good buy and I can bath baby alone if dp is at work late.
It arrived on Friday and its HUGE! but at least it will be more useful and last longer :)

sc0ttishlass · 17/04/2012 14:22

good question re the nappies - I was going to ask - as someone (cant remember sorrry!) on thread 3, mentioned they were stocking up on nappies every week as part of weekly shop - I wanted to do this - but how do you know what size to stock up on - ie if we get size 1 - shoudl we then stock up on lots of size 2 as they will be in for longer, or somtimes do they skip that size! honestly this whole baby thing is so complicated :)

miggins - you seem so organised - i heard someone else suggest those mam bottles - are they the way to go??

xx

sc0ttishlass · 17/04/2012 14:23

oh also for those looking for monitor i looked at teh mumsnet review section and the BT one seemed to get best reviews if i remember....

x

panpipe · 17/04/2012 14:48

Ooh I do love a list! I'll have a go at scaring myself about how much more I need consolidating what I've got so far. Amazingly all second hand (thank you NCT!) apart from pram and carseat.

What I've got
Pram - iCandy Strawberry on order but doesn't arrive til July Confused
Car seat - on order
Cot (no mattress yet)
Moses basket and sheets/blanket (no mattress yet)
Baby bath and baby towels
Microwave steriliser
Bouncer
Winnie the Pooh nursery bedding/curtains etc
Cellular and fleecy blankets
Play nest - but I'm thinking of getting a flat on the floor gym/playmat instead for when very little
Many many cardigans and blankets being knitted by mum and MIL
Maclaren sling/carrier (DH was in charge of this so I've got no idea!)
Nursery thermometer

Still to get - pretty much everything else as so far baby has something to sleep in, get carried around in and play on but will be naked and wee everywhere!

Westcountrylovescheese · 17/04/2012 18:14

Hi everyone, wow part 4 already. Thank you all for the lists, keep em coming, giving me great ideas!

Sid Fishous had me laughing away for ages....

So, can anyone confirm... When officially does the third trimester start?

24 weeks today!

Vinolover · 17/04/2012 18:48

Hello all :)

West, Sid Fishous had me in stitches too! Fantastic name!!

I'm finding these lists very helpful. I may be on baby number three but it seems so long since I had my last baby!

So far we have got:
Tommee Tippee steriliser and bottles
Upto 1 mth and upto 3mth clothes (My babies are quite big and long)
One hand knitted blanket and one gorgeous fleece blanket
Pram on order
Carseat on order
Moses basket (arrived today)

Stocking up on nappies is a brilliant idea. I used to stock up with my first two. My parents are off to Florida in a months time and I have put a request in for some newborn pampers with the umbilical cut out. (You can get huggies over here but not pampers)

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 18:57

I'm feeling a bit more prepared now I have a list :o thanks to everyone who has been putting them up, there are some great ideas and pointers.

West I think the 3rd tri officially starts at 2 week 27 - someone might be able to correct me?

PoppyS34wantssleep · 17/04/2012 18:59

Sorry [blush' that should have said:-
