Hey ladies, as we hurtle towards 1000 posts and our third trimiester I'm setting up the part 4 thread.

Pull up a pew and Brew or small Wine with some Biscuit

ishopthereforeiam · 20/04/2012 20:06

Hey Mia sorry you're not feeling great Wine. Dd will be 20 months when this one is born and was planned (altho happened quicker than we thought it would!) but people still makes lots of comments Angry. We got the Phil and teds explorer in green and black with the second seat included for around 350 from kiddicare, I think they also had black and red.

gnomi I read Gina and the baby whisperer before dd, definitely leaned towards the latter but I soon discovered it's not an exact science(!)

OP posts:
Loislane78 · 20/04/2012 21:14

I haven't read any books (dc1) and wondering if I should? Perhaps v naively I think I'll figure it out as I go along (looked after nephews when they were bambinos) and there's always MN of course! :)

What kind of stuff is covered in the baby whisperer? My friend was telling me about Gena Forde (sp?), and I'm just not into that (personal preference).

Thanks for the advice!!

ishopthereforeiam · 20/04/2012 21:33

Hey Lois I think you'll be fine figuring it out as you go, a lot of the baby whisperer is common sense. The most useful thing I found was EASY I.e eat (baby) activity ( baby plays etc) sleep ( not as easy to get baby to nap as it sounds in our case) then 'you ' time... Although I read both, tried schedules etc in the end we just went with the flow until dd was 4-5 months when we started to eke her at the same time daily which helped create and settle a routine.

geekette · 20/04/2012 21:51

I am avoiding all books at the moment... maybe once the baby is here amazon will be my friend. i am also relying on past experiences with the babies of others.

I and DH were sharing stories the other night and he jokingly pointed out that possibly like men with pot bellies, i probably couldn't see my lady bits anymore.
Guess what? I tried and they have disappeard! Why doesn't anyone ever tell you this would happen? They all say, you won't be able to see your feet but I still can! but I can't see my fanjo :( luckily i am one of those who isn't obsessed with being hairless. Triming will just have to do for now.

fairtradelu · 21/04/2012 09:43

Hey all,

Apologies for not having been on for a while. I've been stalking the thread but feel so far behind everyone else (not due until 28th Aug) that I don't feel I have much to add.

Had 20-week scan last week and the baby is healthy so that is grand. We want the sex to be a surprise - I want my Hollywood moment when they announce "it's a boy/girl!" :)

Not bought anything at all yet but was told this morning that my Dad and step mum are going to pay for our pram which is excellent news, although have no idea which to go for. Will have to go on a pram-sussing-out mission.

Re: books. This will be my first child and I have had very little contact with kids so I am pretty clueless but have just finished reading "French Children Don't Throw Food" and loved it. It isn't a parenting book as such, more a book about cultural differences but it includes lots of things that parents do in France that seem to work well (and make sense) and is written in a really chatty, almost diary-like tone. Anyway, I really enjoyed it so would recommend it to those wanting to get in the mood but not necessarily be dictated to!

Right, time to go stretch these legs. Had a terrible night with backache and sore ribs (at parents' this weekend and mattress like a rock) so need to loosen up with a brisk walk!

Have a lovely weekend everyone

Westcountrylovescheese · 21/04/2012 09:48

Hey there fairtrade! I've been wondering about that book too. As a kid we used to spend summers in France so I think we had some French tactics applied to our upbringing. I've never had the uk propensity to binge drink on alcopops for example... It's good to hear you enjoyed it, you have helped me make my mind up, thanks.

We are a bit list with prams.. Thinking quinny or oyster. Need something lightweight...

susiegrapevine · 21/04/2012 11:08

Hey. marmite just had to say we have a costtado cot bed for ds and he is nearly 2 now. Still in very good condition and is very sturdy. Ds still has no chance of climbing out as goes very low to the ground. Still he will be getting a bed fairly soon.

Yeah I ate too much dinner the other day and got horrible reflux the back of my throat was burning.

Oooo those car seat wraps look really good. Wish I had known about it with ds!

NeedlesCuties · 21/04/2012 11:17

Hello!!!!

I'm back from my week in the sun and have found 10000s new posts from you all. Had a quick read to catch-up and have updated the list accordingly.

Am Confused at how much effort you all are putting into thinking about patterns and colours of clothes and prams. I think I'm being much more chilled out this time, moreso than I was with DS's pregnancy back in 2009. Have pretty much everything a boy could need between the newborn stage and 6 months and most things also in neutral colours for that age range too. Woohoo!

Right, have to go now, still doing all the laundry and tidying up following unpacking of suitcases :)

WelshLadyCDF · 21/04/2012 11:47

needles welcome back!! Hope you had a relaxing break
Any tips on what maternity clothes are best for sunny hols?
I am away in a fortnights time.

Loupee · 21/04/2012 13:24

fairtrade thanks for that, just downloaded that book to my kindle, looks really good, although I really don't need an excuse to download books, its far too easy!
We've decided on the Uppababy Vista as a buggy, was the Which reviews that swung it really I think. Not ordered it yet, have a good price from the pram centre including car seat, but they are going to be at the baby show, so will see if they have any extra discounts on the day, if not will order it next week. The pram centre sounds great, they build it all for you, and keep it as long as you want so you can go pick it up once baby is here and they show you how it all works.
WelshLady if I was going on holiday (I can dream) I would prob just get some maternity shorts, then stick mostly to stretchy vest tops. But I don't like spending much on summer clothes, don't tend to need them too much here in Scotland! Where are you off to?
I've done some bits and pieces and been to the supermarket going to take it easy this afternoon, realised I haven't felt baby move yet today, usually he has a wee dance in the mornings. Hopefully he'll be back to annoying me soon enough Grin

Whiteangel · 21/04/2012 14:56

Hi all, mind if I join you? I'm 25 weeks and due to have a boy on 2nd August. Thanks for all of the nappy tips! We are picking up our pushchair tomorrow, went for the M&Ps Sola based mainly on reviews and recommendations. Feeling really down in the dumps at the moment. Not enjoying work and house sale going slowly. Going to go shopping in a bit to cheer myself up. Need some more work trousers as my first pair have fallen apart and going to get some more newborn clothes whilst DH isn't looking. I've bought lots of 0-3 clothes but they look huge when I'm being logical. Looking forward to following your stories and getting advice!
Have a good weekend x

NeedlesCuties · 21/04/2012 17:43

Hi Whiteangel, you are more than welcome on this thread, I've added your name to the list.

Welsh to be honest I got a 2nd hand pair of linen maternity trousers and teamed them with vest tops and cardis. Was able to still wear pre-pregnancy summer dresses as I'm not putting on weight (mainly due to hyperemesis) but do have a bit of a bump.

My main tip is to wear something comfy for flying or traveling. Apart from that just something you're happy to coast around in.

WelshLadyCDF · 21/04/2012 18:17

Thanks, I have some linen trousers from next, they were £20, I am getting a lot of wear out of them, I think just those and shorts and vest tops which I have a plenty will be fine. We're going to Puerto Pollensa in Mallorca on a cheapo package deal. DP is a keen walker so I plan on lazing around while he walks up in the hills and then a couple of day trips.

ishopthereforeiam · 21/04/2012 20:06

Welcome white angel and pleased the scan went well fair-trade. I read reviews of the fresh children book which were all v positive, sounds like a worthwhile read?

Spent the day looking at houses, so difficult to choose without knowing the area we're looking to move to BUT saw one we loved... Just got to stay calm and not get over excited.

How many houses would you view to be sure you're right when you think you've found The One? All help gratefully received.

OP posts:
Gnomi · 21/04/2012 20:57

Hi Loupee, the Uppababy has been the pram of comics for many of my friends and they're really pleased with it. My PIL have given us a Graco buggy they bought for looking after our niece but don't need it any more. I can actually collapse it without breaking it too!

Baby Whisperer hasn't arrived yet but I'll review it for you when I get through it. I would recommend The Resouceful Mums handbook, especially if you're on a budget or like to make things for yourself.

Dinner for me has a regular chaser of Gaviscon! The glamour!

MrsLister · 21/04/2012 21:48

Hi all - long time no post!!

Hope everybody is well. I'm sat here in bed at 9pm and wondering if I'll ever get my mojo back! Seem to hit a wall at about the same time each night - driving me mad.

Interested to see what you've all been buying - my biggest purchase was a Stokke Sleepi cot from Ebay (great bargain - less than half I would have paid new) and I'll be ordering my pram soon - I'm v lucky that my friend is PR for Stokke (yes I am obsessed with that brand!) and has offered me an Xplory pushchair and MyCarrier to review for my blog - will save me a sodding fortune!

I also plan in buying the Stokke Tripp Trapp chair.

Hmmmmmm - I think I might have a Stokke problem... seeks help

:)

PoppyS34wantssleep · 21/04/2012 21:49

Needles welcome back! :o Hope you had a great time? Hi Whiteangel

ishop where have you been looking? (if that's not a nosey question! Feel free to tell me to mind my own - I'm just looking for inspiration!). We've looked at 41 houses so far.. Confused, we've seen some we liked, but none that we've loved, and we've been looking in just two areas, but keeping an eye on the internet for houses elsewhere.

I was considering the Uppababy, I've had a go with it and it's really easy to steer and it's got a big storage space underneath, although I am watching an iCandy and a Bugaboo on Ebay. :o

MrsLister · 21/04/2012 21:50

Sorry should have said - I'm 21+ 2 x

fairtradelu · 21/04/2012 22:04

Hey Loupee: Let us know what you think of the book.
Also, thanks for all the pram recommendations. Am going to make a shortlist based on this thread and suss them out in a shop. Saw my bro today and they have the Bugaboo Chameleon and were waxing lyrical about it. Have to say, it did handle very well and was super lightweight etc. Not many negatives, apart from price!

PoppyS34wantssleep · 21/04/2012 22:07

fairtradelu I had a go on my friends Chameleon and it was great to use, my thoughts were the same as yours :)

Hey MrsL How are you? I was reading your blog the other day :)

(25wks today :o - feels like a lifetime!)

hamncheese · 22/04/2012 08:52

Hey all

We found "the one" after only looking at one other ishop and looked more but not found anything else, think you just get a feeling! Tip from someone I know is to visit the area late at night on a Saturday to make sure it's quiet, especially if in town/city, if that applies!

Only problem for us is we found "the one" before going on the market and still waiting to sell. Had a viewing last week and got an offer.... an offer that was £20,000 UNDER our offers OVER asking price.. what the hell!? I understand it's a buyers market and people putting in a cheeky bid but that's a slap in the face. Oh well trying to stay positive and thinking at least someone wants to buy, even if their idea of an acceptable offer is a bit off.

Baby seems to be happy at the moment, movements are getting a little more regular too :) so proud of my wee one!

Hope you are all well have a great Sunday

[24+1]

The3Bears · 22/04/2012 09:23

Hi everyone, hope you've all had a great weekend?

MrsLister So Envy of your stokke, We were going to get the sleepi cot but decided against it as dp was not so keen on it and the cost :( Think were going to get the tripp trapp though :)

Welcome back needles hope you had a nice break! :)

Waves to whiteangel welcome :)

fairtradelu and poppy I cannot reccomend the Bugaboo Cameleon enough i got mine for ds in 2006 paid alot for it and all the accesories but it was completley worth it used it for 3 years and now I have it out again for ds2 and it looks brand new, its such a fab pram I didnt use the carrycot much for ds as he didnt like to lie flat so at 3 months I put it in pushchair mode and its so cosy and warm for a baby, so easy to push I just love it Grin

Is anyone else going for a 4d scan? Im booking mine this week for around 26 weeks cant wait!

24+1 today, getting closer!

fairtradelu · 22/04/2012 09:29

Hey Mrs L, I'm fostering a slight Stokke obsession too :) Have my eye on the Tripp-Trapp and the baby carrier thing. Have to make a list and see if finances can stretch to such extravagances before I indulge though!

Did a bit more pram research last night. Have added the Uppababy and the Mutsy 4Rider Light to the shortlist, along with the Bugaboo Chameleon, Oyster and Quinny. Just need to find a shop near York that stocks them now!

Have a great Sunday everyone

Whiteangel · 22/04/2012 09:54

We are buying my husband's grandma's house and totally gutting it. It is all about location for us. The house is in a small village on the edge of Northumberland (still only a bus ride into Newcastle) but feels like the middle of nowhere. The views are breath taking and there is a nursery and a school in the village. We are going for a total change of lifestyle and I can't wait! Going up today to paint the nursery once we have collected our pushchair. At least we will have one finished room when we move in!
Attempted to buy more clothes both for me and bump yesterday but still can't find smart work trousers and all of the little boy clothes seem to have an Olympic theme! DH thinks that isn't necessarily a bad thing and maybe we should mark that he will be born during the London Olympics so I've told him he has to come and choose then!
Did manage to find the monitor we had decided on with £20 off and then used my £10 off voucher so was pleased with that!
Any recommendations for bouncey chairs and baby gyms? Want something they can use for as long as possible and that doesn't fill my lounge with primary coloured plastic! I know I will end up living in a mini toys r us but I'm in no hurry to embrace the gaudy tat! Our friend's little girl has a lovely tree top gym but it seems to be sold out everywhere! www.johnlewis.com/231147192/Product.aspx
Any other recommendations? Enjoy the rest of your weekends x

PoppyS34wantssleep · 22/04/2012 11:24

Morning everyone :) I'm watching the London Marathon on TV with mixed feelings. I am was a big runner, and finally got accepted to run this years marathon, which would have been my first ever, but then I got my BFP and had to defer... am so Envy of all those runners :o Madness I know... next year!

Whiteangel there's one of those Skip Hop gyms on Ebay Not sure if this link will work www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skip-Hop-Treetop-Friends-Activity-Gym-/160784048737?pt=UK_Toys_Games_Toys_CA&hash=item256f79e261#ht_500wt_1216

I also managed to finally bag a maternity pillow on there last night as well... :o
