Hellooooooo

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 20/12/2008 20:23

Hi All, can I sign up as the weak please and get my quota of sleep?

I've been record keeping for 2 days now and have an observation to ask advice on - how often are the exclusive bf ladies feeding their LO's during each day on average? I am averaging 10/11 times in a 24 hour period I think, and they are short feeds. This may be the problem, if ds is never really hungry, getting watery milk and needs feeding again 1.5 hours later . Baby whisperer says 5 feeds plus dream feed is normal (!), am tempted to chuck book out the window.

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 20/12/2008 20:28

Everyone's glued to strictly I 'spect- my pc is in the same room as tv for effective multitasking

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 20/12/2008 20:33

BOO!!!

OhLittleBitShyOfBethlehem · 20/12/2008 20:35

I not watching strictly - couldn;t keep up with that AND x factor - and x factor won .

Over last few days ds has been having between 8 and 11 feeds i'd say. When he doesn't at wake at night (ha wishful thinkling atm) it is about 7... Mostly quite short and often feeding again within 1.5 hours...

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 20/12/2008 20:42

hello
raining here
going out in a bit for some sun therapy

sambo reese feeds like that somedays. i call it grazing. then she'll have a few big feeds then back to grazing. we're ff, of course, but don't see too much difference based on all i've read from everyone here(feeding/sleeping/pooping-wise).

nice new thread sazzles. here's a thread warming gift.
{{twilight sets down a case of champagne}}
ENJOY

Well last night DD was hellish I kept DD up until 8.30 so she could see my parents who were arrivingg late - so she wouldn't go to bed, then the grumbly started big red cheek drible, crying, chewing hands So I checked her mouth and there is a little white point sticking out where an eyetooth should be So I got my mum to check and it is defo a tooth! why on earth is she not doing this according to the books? it is very red and sore looking so will take her to HV to see if it is 'normal' and to make sure it is not infected - then if necessary take her to the doc. So she woke at 9.30, 10.30, 12.30, smoke alarm mafunctioned at 1.07 again at 1.29, i took the battery out at 1.42 when it happened again, dd woke at 2.03 fed, 5am dd woke and fed then selpt until 7.30 when I had to go to work so I woke her and got her ready. My mum and dad took her for 2 hours today into town for a walk and shopping. I worked until 4 and we came home and just played at being couch potatoes until DH came in at 7 - fed DH and put DD to bed at normal time - now sleeping .

DH is upto something for my birthday - I made plans to se a friend on Wednesday and she has mysteriously cancelled and I was told not to make any plans

All Christmas pressies bought and I think I have them all out of hiding places now just wrapping and breathing out with relief.

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 20/12/2008 20:46

may i add...
i really really like the bumbo seat i purchased for reese. she likes it too. it's nice that she can sit up and look around without assistance from mio.

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 20/12/2008 20:48

YEAH Oops!! I Poppy is the first with a tooth!!!

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 20/12/2008 20:49

TS I can't wait for DD to get hers from Father Christmas! She loves the one at Babycafe so she can join us at the table, help cooking, watch telly

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 20/12/2008 21:08

wow Oops I feel ashamed for whinging after hearing about your night.

Dear Santa, for Christmas please may I have a full night of sleep, I've been good (well, sort of )

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 20/12/2008 21:15

Smabo - no need to be ashamed this is the first (and not likely to be the last) we have had any sleep trouble with her. So it was more than a shock to the system and if the smake alarm hadn't misbehaved I would most likely have beed a slightly better night.

Just felt very DH watching Military HEros Awards of telly and it was very serious about wounded young men and I was PMSL at the hotel thread - DH just glared at me.

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 20/12/2008 21:15

OOOH twice how does that happen?

poppystocking · 20/12/2008 21:56

Sorry to hear of all the rubbish nights going on here. I worried last night that we were in for a bad one as with the arrival of my sister, BiL and 4 week old niece at my Mum's house I moved in with both DDs. Combo of that with non night sleeping newborn, I expected to be chaos. Thankfully a day of long walks and plenty of excitement for them both (and general knackerdness from me) gave a sound night of sleeping for us all. (Sorry to all now cursing me) Now we just need to keep it going for a week .

Really reassuring to see that others are feeding more than the fabled four-hourly. We're more like every 2 hours for her 12 hours awake. I'm lazy though and often give it a go if she's whining and we so often get interrupted to that it feels constant.

Current rather odd obsession here is sucking my face. I thought it was hunger to begin with, but today that was proving preferrable to boob . Was amusing a few days ago. Now just rather messy.

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 20/12/2008 22:06

oooohhhh Poppy DD has just loved sucking my chin in the last few days I spend my days covered in dribble and it goes all sticky and gross when it dries!

poppystocking · 20/12/2008 22:18

Glad DD2's not alone in this strange obsession! Never come across it before and assumed that DD2 would be late with teeth as DD1 was but the obsessive sucking, rosy red cheeks and unbelievable amounts of dribbling suggest we may not be so far away. And with Poppy already having one too... .

AliEightMaidsAMilking · 21/12/2008 00:19

Bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger. Have spent all day cleaning up our pit of a house and making yummy things for dinner tomorrow...and friends can't come! . Am really upset - it's DP's bestest ever mate and his wife who I've not yet met, although have spoken to them lots on the phone. He's in the army and based in NI, so can't really just pop over to say hi, plus he's being deployed abroad fairly soon, so who knows when we'll see each other. Was really looking forward to long boozy dinner and chat . Anyone fancy dinner chez Ali tomorrow night? I have boeuf bourguignonne and lemon and ginger cheesecake...

Right, whining over. So sorry to hear of bad nights all round...hope tonight is a bit better for everyone. Adam didn't really nap AT ALL today - was up from 9.30am to about 9pm with a couple of tiny (maybe 10 minute) naps when he dozed off during a feed leading to absolutely knackered baby who wouldn't sleep. I started trying to put him down around 7, but he didn't conk out until gone 9.

Sambo Adam's feeding is a bit random, and he tends to feed for a really long time, but he feeds roughly at 8am, 11am, 1pm then usually a monster cluster feed from about 4pm to 7pm and again just before bed around 9pm. So not that often, but he'll usually feed for at least 30 minutes, and in the afternoon he will happily feed non-stop for well over an hour, nap a bit and then want to feed for another hour. Means I get to put my feet up in the afternoon though . He'll often have a few snacks in between those as well, as I'll usually give it a go if he's whinging or upset, and he'll always have a bit, even if only for a few minutes.

No sign of teeth here yet - lots of dribble, lots of chewing of fists/toys/my fingers/muslins/anything, but nothing else.

Right, I need sleep...let's hope Adam will let me have some.

Night all.

AliEightMaidsAMilking · 21/12/2008 00:24

PS Friends can't come due to entirely reasonable circumstances, am not upset with them. He's got proper flu (not man-flu) - H1N1 strain which is the same as the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918. He's a doctor and was unwilling to expose Adam to it, plus we are going to visit DP's mum soon, and she has a whole host of health problems, and getting it would be very serious for her.

AndHeaVanAnnNatureSing · 21/12/2008 01:03

*Poppy - that whole 4 hourly feeding thing was an imposition of the Truby King method of child rearing. Invented by a farmer who got the idea from watching calves It's also entirely geared around ff, as formula takes longer to digest. DP's aunt insisted on doing every four hours with her two and apparently they cried CONSTANTLY because they were always hungry - even the ff boy actually. DP's nana was telling me that demand feeding is wrong because 'then you have to change their habits' It's totally normal for babies to want to feed frequently - they only have tiny tummies after all. Seb feeds AT LEAST every two hours during the day - sometimes more.

Oh thanks for the new thread sazzles

Bluewater was chaos today. I'm ill, little man is ill, and he had a pooing marathon that resulted in a leak - even through the Motherease Airflow wrap! Was well timed, as we'd just met up with DP's family, and MIL dashed off to Mothercare and bought him a new outfit toput on somehow I still have loads of shopping to do, despite having spent four hours at bluewater.

OhLittleBitShyOfBethlehem · 21/12/2008 07:47

henry's tooth is one of the front bottom ones - i have known babies get the one like poppy first though...

cyLENTeeNIGHT · 21/12/2008 07:51

Morning all, just popped on to share my stressful evening with you - spookily similar to what ALBS posted on the end of the last thread. DP and I had planned a nice meal with wine, I had got ebm out of the freezer, all normal...put DS to bed at the usual time, all normal...20 minutes later I am cooking and DP is on babywatch when Joe wakes up SCREAMING, absolutely screaming his head off, out of the blue Wouldn't calm down for ages and looked absolutely terrified We checked him over and thankfully couldn't see any obvious physical problems but he has never, never woken up like that before...could it be a nightmare? We brought him downstairs with us as he was so upset and he was very keen not to go to sleep. Ended up in bed with us all night and doing lots of comfort feeding.

He seems fine this morning and we all slept okay but I'm a bit as to what to do for the best now. Should I get him checked out, do you think? Although he doesn't have any symptoms as such...but it is the holidays coming up...arrgh.

Back later, have urgent tea delivery to make

no1putsantaupthechimney · 21/12/2008 07:53

ann shock about wrap, at least you were somewhere to get some more clothing.

sazzles Marcus feeds different on somedays, but I would say he has under 10 feeds.
Or he could have 5/6 in day or less and then cluster feed in evening. IMVHO if he fed any more I would prob be tempted to introduce ff.
Only because I would have to put dds needs into the equation.(feel guilty enough somedays when he is feeding and she wants some time with me)

Bad night here think I am going to take Marcus to walk in surgery today, I didnt get to bed till 4.30am and then didnt sleep properly. I shut my eyes at 5.45, and got up at 6.30.
Marcus has horrendous cough, sounds like a seal, he coughed up lots of mucus/slime thick gross stuff. sorry tmi first thing.
I feel so sorry for him.

no1putsantaupthechimney · 21/12/2008 08:00

cyteen sorry x post. sorry you had rough night also.
Poor Joe I t is awful when they cry like that, as it makes you worry something is seriously wrong, as its so out of character.

Marcus did it the other night, I put it down to tummy trouble/wind etc... I still feel I am guessing at this.
At least last night the cough was a dead giveaway, makes it kind of easier when you know whats wrong. If any of that made sense.

cant believe we have teeth here already.
