Ohh poor Marcus the snot sounds terrible! You must be knackered. Hope DH can help give you a bit of a break today.

oopsIstuffedaturkey · 21/12/2008 08:40

Morning all

No1 - hope you manage some sleep today at some point - Could you and Marcus snuggle into bed at some point? MAybe he will sleep and you can too.

Cyteen - DD did that too about a week ago at 5 am scared the living daylights out of her - I thought the cat had got into out room and climbed on her. but a big fart after 45 minutes of crying and fussing and she went back out like a light.

Well a better night in the Oops household last night, we had 8-4 then 4-7.30 now she is very contentedly lying on the sitting room floor talking to the christmas lights eating her fingers.

Now shall we walk to church or drive??? I think drive may win as I can feed DD in the car before we go in.

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 21/12/2008 10:47

{{{hugs}}} cyteen and No1

Santa answered my request last night and ds slept from midnight til 4.53am then from 5ish til 8.30am. Feel human once again. Thanks for sharing your bf times, it's just when I'm short of sleep I start thinking I cant cope and have to 'fix' what I'm doing wrong when in fact, ds is a tiny baby and all I should be doing is feeding and caring for him, not putting him on a boot camp schedule.

We're off to meet my new niece today, born in Switzerland 15 days after my ds, can't wait to see her, from the pic she looks just like my sister. The first granddaughter for my parents, I bought her a ridiculously girlie fluffy pink 'bomber jacket' for Christmas

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 21/12/2008 10:56

Oops, re teething - a chilled celery stick or cabbage/cauliflower stalk is great for them to chew on, too big to swallow. Otherwise Bonjela and Calpol at bedtime will do. I'm pretty sure you won't need to see HV.

Sambo, he might be getting too much foremilk so not feeling full for long. As a formula feeder, then a BFer. now a formula feeder again, I found I just lost all my baby-settling skills while I was BFing. It was just so quick to stick a boob in and he'd always have a go. If you don't already have them, a dummy or a sling might help settle him when you know he could really go another hour without feeding eg after first AM guzzle.

Have been going out of my mind with boredom lately, DD was ill Friday so I had all 3 to myself all day then I've been a ukulele widow since then! He had a practise Friday evening, they were on the radio Sat am, rehearsal this am then tonight is the Uke Jam's Xmas Cabaret! OK there have been good points interspersed between the ukeness - got lunch at the local Harvester (salad bar is great for fussy kids), a top shag last night and PILs are babysitting tonight so I can go to the cabaret thingy. My first night out a-drinkin with DH in over 13months!

My DB posted some photos of my nephews in Australia online yesterday, I just burst into tears. I'd wondered when it would sink in, I'm really missing those little guys. Specially the middle one, he's a little bit eccentric like my DS.

MerrySibhmas · 21/12/2008 10:58

Poor Joe and Marcus ...

Cyteen my older two did that sometimes and it was mostly wind-some gets stuck or moves suddenly and they get a pain which goes fairly quickly but leaves them a bit confused and needing comfort. DD1 especially would have us convinced she had a serious physical pain because she panicked more when it happened.

DS1 has us rattled here because he keeps getting temperatures every third night ... Not sure what it is, but I'm ditching his toothbrush in case that's re-introducing the virus he had each time he uses it. I should have thought of that before of course.

He's got to be ok for tomorrow because he's Joseph in the school show tomorrow night (no talking, lots of kneeling). I must take some pics and post them

sambo303mincepiesconsumed · 21/12/2008 11:01

Ali what a shame about your guests, that sounds like the perfect meal you prepared. I love boeuf bourg ,and am planning to learn how to make it whilst off on mat leave (if I get a chance). Was a veggie for 16 years so have no clue how to cook meat dishes.

MerrySibhmas · 21/12/2008 11:04

Ukelele widow
It must be hard to think of your nephews being so far away. Is there any chance of getting a webcam for Christmas?

cyLENTeeNIGHT · 21/12/2008 12:11

haha, i'm becoming a uke widow as well - we've just had early christmas (to limit the amount of presents hauled around the country on the day) and DP is currently watching his uke how-to DVD

Joe got lots of cool stuff, he loves it all! he is much happier today, lots of vocalising and active wriggling about thanks so much for the reassurance re. wind, he was farting a lot at the time so i guess this is what it was. just hard to believe wind could cause so much upset, especially now that he's past the newborn difficulties. i know it sounds stupid, but now that he's trying to sit up, holding his head steady, interacting with things and chatting, i sometimes forget he's still just a tiny baby

SazzlesIsASleighBell · 21/12/2008 12:43

cyteen your pre christmas, christmas sounds lovely. i haven't even wrapped the presents yet

DD1 and i have just made some of dizzy's hummingbird cakes and popped them in the oven. Fingers x'd they are ok as we are going to give them to all our neighbours as a little Xmas token gift from DD1

sambo Beef Bourguinonne Ainsley style is dead easy and delicious:

1)Heat oven to 180 degrees and pop large casserole dish in
2)In a large frying pan fry off 750g (1.5lbs) of cubed braising or stewing steak and transfer to casserole.
3)Add 10 shallots (halved), 3 garlic cloves (halved) and 125g (4.5oz) of lardons of bacon to the frying pan and fry for 5 mins. Transfer to casserole
4)Add 1 bottle red wine, 2 sprigs fresh thyme and 1 tablespoon of tomato puree to the frying pan and heat until just boiling. Transfer to casserole
5)Cook for 1 hour then add 250g (9oz) of whole button mushrooms and cook for a further 45 mins

Easy Peasy!! If you have a flameproof casserole, you can dispense with the frying pan and simply remove the meat after step 2 and add it again at step 4 and then pop the whole thing in the oven

Sorry to hear of last night's sleep antics, we had Emma awake until 9, DD1 up from 9-11 and 2.30, Emma at 6 and DD1 at 6.45 [sigh]

oops hope Poppy's tooth is ok - someone i know their DD's molar came through first

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 21/12/2008 13:37

Think I am actually insanely jealous of DH and his uke-based fun, that's my problem. It's so good for his depression too - getting out there, making new friends, teamwork, the whole 'I made this' thing. One of the uke jam lives a few doors down from us and today he got to go there for a poke about their identical house rehearsal. Wondering if we could stretch to a babysitter every fortnight so I could join or whether I'd be cramping his style.

TwilightSurferChristmasAngel · 21/12/2008 15:25

reese was obviously in good company last night with her cryfest caused by gas. her poos have been less than perfect for a few days so i expect a massive dump soon. yeah

dh making breakfast. neither of us got much shut eye. if we weren't dealing with reese then we were dealing with dd1 who did not have any desire to sleep last night (and didn't from all i can tell).

going for a walk/run in a few to perk up my disposition.

no1putsantaupthechimney · 21/12/2008 16:37

Think all Babies are feeling off it at the moment, there is lots of bugs flying round.

buckets I too would be
of your dh uke based fun.
I am hoping to get back with my lot soon.

ts night wakers across the pond. {{hugs}}

Took Marcus to out of hours doctor clinic today (advised so by my dad, bless)

He looked grey before I went in.
Typical how soon as he saw doc he smiled, laughed, and did not cough, splutter once.

Chest and lungs clear even though they dont sound it.

My dad also voiced his concern about me driving to bristol too.
He says 'ooh lovey, its a long drive'
and 'ooh wrong time of year, could be snowy or icy'

bless I love my dad.

petitfiloudanceswithreindeers · 21/12/2008 19:18

Hi all
Sorry for everyone having crappy nights. You will be pleased to know that Toby has had a feed at 2am for the past two nights. Atm I am going through the 16 (or so) week growth spurt as expected - I have actually lost count of how much he has fed today it has been so often. Every 2 to 2 1/2 hours or thereabouts. And.... I have a calgel addict - he looks VERY happy when he sees it and is noticeably happier once it has been applied! There seems to be a little lump in the top right hand area of his gum so will see what emerges (or not) still seems very early for teeth (oops congrats on first tooth of the thread btw!) ...

Other news from the pf household - dd has had flu or similar. She has eaten more or less nothing for the past three days and had a sky high temperature - hope she is now on the mend. I got spectacularly miserable the other day due to Christmas overload but am now ok thankfully!

You won't see me on here much after Monday so hope you all have a great Christmas

dizzyjingles · 21/12/2008 20:23

just marking the territory to get it on my thread list

3 girls full of cold, myself also suffering, DH on works night out, wrapping done, DD1's carol concert had me weeping like a pillock , saw really lovely Santa who was great with girls (another little sob for me), went for carriage ride and story telling at Glamis castle, cinema tomorrow and a touch more shopping to do as well as cleaning and tidying house (and breath.............) there. thats about me caught up

oh, all except for sodding DD1 telling Santa today that she wants a certain toy thats never been mentioned before and was £25 but now £70?!? [meep][faint] on ebay. Thank god for the northern irish side (my best mates lovely LOVELY mum) who is going to buy it and post it tomorrow

ali sorry your guests had to bow out but am as sure they're as gutted as you, esp considering the cirumstances - may I say you're house looks sparkling

sazz hope the cakes turned out ok
pf have a lovely lovely christmas with the kids and DH

and to all else, hoping all snotting/teething/non sleeping kids are getting better and you'll all be well in time for Thursday

poppystocking · 21/12/2008 21:24

Hi Dizzy! Glad Glamis was good. Looked fab. Maybe next year...

Hope you won't be off forever from Monday pf.

Sorry to hear about all these ill babies and siblings. Why does Christmas have to be in winter when everyone's run down and snotty?

Went to the carol service at the little Church in the village that I grew up in. Hadn't been for 10 years or so so v. odd seeing all the kids I played with also grown up with their children. Lovely that everyone goes back, although did manage to freak out my old babysitter with my grown-upness. She was probably only 7 or 8 years older than me when she'd sneakily allow me to stay up to watch Dynasty, but I'm sure she still remembered me as much younger than her and therefore definitely not a mother!

dizzyjingles · 21/12/2008 21:32

poppy I can't recommend it enough, the Santa was fabulous - really spoke to the kids but took it by their lead so as not to freak them out, even L spoke to him wasn't that much of a que as they only book so many people per session

the carriage ride was lovely too even though we were getting smacked in the face by the leaves, you were given a big 'santa' blanket and the girls were waving at everyone thinking they were royalty!!

the story telling lady was really good and got all the kids involved and they weren't bored for a second

worth every penny in my book

know what you mean about babysitters, my dad met the lady that used to do our junior church choir and she about died when she heard I had a dh and 3 kids

petitfiloudanceswithreindeers · 21/12/2008 22:19

dizzy Hope you are not one of these Moldies

dizzyjingles · 21/12/2008 22:23

oh lord, what does that mean?!

SazzlesIsASleighBell · 21/12/2008 22:28

Can someone help me please? Can't be arsed to wrap presents

Have just raided the box of mini toblerone i bought as part of my sisters Xmas pressie

OP posts:
dizzyjingles · 21/12/2008 22:30

pringles and dip to wash it down?

SazzlesIsASleighBell · 21/12/2008 22:33

It??????

Had 4

OP posts:
dizzyjingles · 21/12/2008 22:35

well that doesn't even count as one frankly

and can we please stop talking about all things 'mini' before I open and wipe out the tub of mini jaffa cakes and mallows

SazzlesIsASleighBell · 21/12/2008 22:41

nimi, imni, iimn, mnii, niim, miin, imin, inim

There is a reason i had 4 BTW, i had to try one of each, white, dark and milk, then realised i preferred white so had to finish on that one

OP posts:
dizzyjingles · 21/12/2008 22:44

would've been so rude not to. there is never any need for rudeness, esp this close to christmas

SazzlesIsASleighBell · 21/12/2008 22:48

I agree, hence why i didn't mention the word Mini

Oh, good news over the weekend is that Emma has finally learned to suck her thumb....hurrah. However she does it with her fingers pointing down rather than up

Also DD1 has learned the chorus to 'Pink Pink Sunshine' by Fuzzbox (for those sad 80's music fiends). Great (fecking)parenting skills I reckon to have introduced this so young in her life. She now says 'Mummy, pooter, pink sunsine, NOW'
