August 2014 Babies,half way to one and staring at you while you eat.

I've been told via Whatsapp by a MN'er this morning who used to be a member of the ante-natal group that there's a Facebook group, but that they won't accept anyone or her back Hmm (a bit weird if you ask me, but each to their own, and have really left a PND suffering mum feeling like shit, but I doubt they care in their "clique")

So are there any August Mums left on here willing to chat, without connecting to Faceache?

Hiya I'm new to MN so wasn't on an antenatal thread but I have an August DD and would love to hear about other beautiful summer babies Grin

My DD was born in august, the antenatal thread on here was dead I didn't even know there was a fb group! Love to hear about other summer beauties as well x

There wasn't a postnatal August group as it all went to FB.

There are a few August Mums over on the September thread as a result. It would be good to have an August 2014 thread on MN too, as its a shame about there not being one as I'm sure there are a few lurkers out there. Having said that August Mums are more than welcome on the September one if this thread is a bit quiet. DS is 1st Sept, so is only just a September baby, so I may cross over a bit.

well I'm happy to give an August thread a go and if it does a death we can pop over to September Grin.

My DS was born August 16th and this week were about to embark on weaning, he's been interested for a while, and is a toast thief but have decoded to give it a proper go. Mine also isn't sleeping through the night Sad. joyfull

any mums returned to work yet??

My DD was born August 21st, 10 days late!

I haven't started weaning yet as trying to wait until the 6 month mark, but she wakes up around 8 times a night on average so I'm curious if introducing real food will make any difference. I could really do with some more sleep Confused

How has everyone decided when to start introducing food? And are you BF or FF alongside?

Ginger I haven't gone back to work yet although they just wrote to me asking when I'm returning. I'm missing the intellectual side of it but I don't like the idea of leaving DD at nursery when she still feels so little, so guess I'm not ready yet!

to those who asked about warning I'm starting this week, DS is ready, I'm a memeber of the hipp organic baby club so I'm going to give their weaning chart a go, but also mixing in some baby lead weaning. Yesterday DS played with mashed up banana chunks...it went EVERYWHERE haha

filmic I'm back in work full time now, DS goes to nursery. He loves it, and they spoil him rotten, when the time comes to leave him, you will know and it won't feel too bad Thanks

I visited the ones I shortlisted, both me and dp talked to them, we wanted to see what the place looked like, was it modern, did it look safe to us, were the children that were already there happy, content, how was the interaction between carers and children.

One just seemed to feel right, the management team were professional and welcoming, it all just fitted for us. DS now loves nursery and they spoil him rotten, we get pictures and foot prints and hand prints it really is nice.

We are going to try and wait for weaning if we can. However I have a few doubts whether DS will have the same idea. DS is small for his age and his weight gain dropped a centile so I'm keen for him not to wean too early if possible. I'm also planning on mixing purees and BLW.

my DS is small too Red on the 9th percentiles, he's not underweight though he's a chubby tiny baby, probably takes after me haha Grin.

this evening after his milk feed we attempted a baby puree, what a mess I spooned 5/6 teaspoons to I'm but then I just put a blob of it on the tray and he got his hands in it, then was sucking the pure off his fingers and smiling then it just went EVERYWHERE! bath followed promptly Grin.

Another August baby here, LO also born 21st. Not yet started weaning and not back at work yet, but lovely to hear positive nursery experience as we will be going that route.
Am worried about how much OH will do when I do back to work...ATM I do almost everything for LO and at home, fair enough while I'm b'feeding and on mat leave but am already feeling tired and that's before I go back to FT work!

Hi guys, great to see an august group! Dd was born august 3rd, eight days late. We are going to start blw very soon, this week probably. She's also fairly small, on the 9th centile. Right now she's teething and I can see a definite mark/hole? on her gum and possibly a white tip, but she doesn't open her mouth long enough to have a really good look!

I should be going back to work in august but am seriously considering becoming a sahm.

Nursery for my DS is a positive experience so hope you find one like that too mrsbrown! I visited 4 before I found the one, also with regards to help, I'm on my own as DP is in the forces and away a lot of the time, can you talk to the OH and just ask "how are we going to share this when I go back to work?"

If you become a SAHM credit to you, I couldn't do it, I'd find it too hard mrsmilk Blush also a tooth!! how exiting DS is still all gums haha

Mrsbrown we have twins! my DH is very happy to help but a bit clueless. He's good at playing and changes a few nappies but he has no idea about feeding or how/when to go for naps etc. once DD is less dependent on me for milk I'm going to try to get him more clued up. i would love a day off duty if nothing else Grin

what does everyone else do to get some time to themselves? or does that never actually happen for you either?

Dh is great round the house but prefers cooking or laundry to taking care of dd! I usually get 30mins to myself to shower, go to the loo etc while he looks after her. Don't really mind too much as I'm breastfeeding and she won't drink expressed milk so I couldn't leave her for very long anyway!

ginger that must be tough with your dp away so much. Dh goes away every so often for work but normally no more than a week at a time. He's away next week and am hoping parents might visit, although it's a 500 mile journey each way for them.

Glad to hear positive experience about nursery. We are on the waiting list of our chosen nursery and to date. I have not found any other nursery that I like Sad getting a bit nervous about finding one ...

We are going to look at nurseries this week. Not going to make a decision about work until much nearer the time, so want to keep my options open at this stage. Still very much in favour of becoming a sahm although of course things can change in six months.

afternoon all,

mrsmilk hope you fond a nursery you like, and dp away is hard I'm on my own Mon-fri but if he can come home on weekends he does and he does everything he possibly can, so it's nice to have a break.

when I get time to myself I have a bubble bath and sit and read a book for an hour with a warm freshly made cup of tea that hasn't gone tepid cold lol
bah I have work today, working till 8pm then it's straight in to the bed time routine when I get home. Sad.

Ha,ha felkov - agree once b'feeding is less of an issue then some serious clueing-up is due!
Ginger your nursery sounds lovely and must be a great help with your OH away so much. Haven't seen any I like yet but more visits next week so fx.
Am looking forward to starting weaning -- have been given lots of advice but think will try a mix of the methods and see what works. LO is on 91st centile Hmm so am a bit worried about over-feeding but HV said it will drop down once crawling starts. Gulp, our house is the opposite of baby-proof so thought of mobility is terrifying! Guess will need to buy stairgate etc soon...

A bubble bath would be so nice Ginger! the only baths I have now are with DD and usually involve water going everywhere all over the bathroom. hardly relaxing

evening all!!

what a day I'm exhausted, would love a nice nights sleep but DS will undoubtedly have other plans, he never sleeps on the nights I could do with sleep, sods law!!

MrsBrown my house is far from baby proof!! I'm dreading it Grin.

felkov I step fly suggest you wangle a hot bubble bath somehow, honestly it will be the best hour of your life to date!! just don't fall asleep the rude awakening from your face hitting the water ruins the calm relaxing vibe haha
