I've been told via Whatsapp by a MN'er this morning who used to be a member of the ante-natal group that there's a Facebook group, but that they won't accept anyone or her back Hmm (a bit weird if you ask me, but each to their own, and have really left a PND suffering mum feeling like shit, but I doubt they care in their "clique")

So are there any August Mums left on here willing to chat, without connecting to Faceache?

I find Teeth a granules are good, but we've also recently discovered Ashton and Parsons powders, which are also very good. If he's in a lot of pain he gets Paracetamol or Nurofen.

GingerCuddleMonster · 08/02/2015 09:36

morning all, it's been d&v in our house Sad all better now.

With teeth eve got the two bottom front ones coming through together, DS gets Ashton and Parsons teething powder and nurofen when really bad.

I'm exhausted Sad.

Oh no sorry to hear that ginger, glad you're on the mend now though, I have been plague ridden for the last ten days or so and am so fed up feeling ill!

GingerCuddleMonster · 09/02/2015 07:25

there seems to be so many bugs going around milk didn't help that we have members off staff that "soldier" on and pass on all their bugs Angry.

felkov · 09/02/2015 19:49

Oh no that's the worst when people make everyone around them ill. If there's one thing I get mad about its catching a cold from someone who should have stayed home and kept it to themselves! esp if you have a little one who has such a new immune system still.

we were at my inlaws over the weekend so didn't get much further with weaning as their place is not set up for lots of food on the floor! although we tried a bit of soft toast as Dd was getting really upset watching everyone eat around her poor thing.

how is everyone else after the weekend?

WhyNotSmile · 09/02/2015 21:17

Ugh, I hate when people "soldier on"! As if they have special strength that enables them to keep going (rather than just being inconsiderate sods), or they're so important that the place would fall apart if they stayed in bed!

We've now given cucumber and yellow pepper a try. Both were chewed and sucked with great gusto, although I'm not sure much got swallowed!

GingerCuddleMonster · 09/02/2015 21:37

people just annoy me some days Envy. I'm grumpy today lol

DS has taken a interest in food again after a poorly weekend, tonight was jar food due to a late finish in work but he guzzled down a jar of penne pasta, tomato and courget mush. to be honest it did taste quite nice, I had some lovingly splattered on my face. DS refuses to let go of the spoon so now I have a clean dummy spoon for him to grab with his little vice hands whilst i spoon in food. Wink

Whynot cucumber and pepper cooked or raw? Are you trying blw ?

Nazly · 09/02/2015 22:44

Weekend: mil arrived yesterday. She will stay with us for a very long time. Her first time seeing ds. Ds quite happily accepted her as a new person around.

WhyNotSmile · 10/02/2015 03:50

Just raw, Nazly - I figured the pepper would go squishy if it was cooked. Yes, trying blw, but with the odd puree thrown in. He's not keen on the purees though, but loved the finger foods!

GingerCuddleMonster · 10/02/2015 06:34

whynot what other fingerfoods have you tried? im terrified of DS choking Sad.

mrsmilkymoo · 10/02/2015 08:32

I gave dd some of our pasta and sauce last night (it was just tomato, squash, lentil and carrot basically) and was impressed by how good she is at picking up the pasta shapes. Not sure how much was actually eaten, but she seemed to have serious amounts of energy after it so I think she was on a carb high. going to try her on strips of omelette today with some salad vegetables cut into sticks.

WhyNotSmile · 10/02/2015 08:35

So far just cucumber and pepper. I elf the cucumber for him as it was quite slippery and he was trying to suck it in. He held the pepper himself (with me hovering right beside him). Pushed it top far in a couple of times, but just gagged and pulled it back out.

He's also had a few purees/mashed stuff. The closest he has come to choking was mashed potato, but again he just gagged and coughed until he spat it out.

I was scared of choking as well, but he's done fine so far - doesn't do much more than lick the finger foods really.

WhyNotSmile · 10/02/2015 08:52

held, not elf!

Hello weaners and feeders! The first carrot was mouldy on closer inspection, the second one got burnt in the pan so hopefully third time lucky. Baby rice was greeted with indifference but was eaten.

WhyNotSmile · 10/02/2015 12:17

Yes, we had total indifference to baby rice too! Today we had apple (loved it!) and a biscuit (sneaked in by Grandma, and enjoyed!).

WhyNotSmile · 10/02/2015 15:35

Just tried some baby porridge, and it was a big hit! Only a few spoonfuls, but eaten with great gusto!

Nazly · 10/02/2015 20:34

This is part of my post in september thread which I am just copying here given we are talking about weaning here

Today I cooked a more balanced food for him today, which he loved; so I am happy.

May I suggest that if you have time and are willing please share the recipes of successful food here? I know there are cook books out there but somehow for me this forum is more attractive.

So here is mine which I totally made up: (chicken vegetable meal)
The good thing about this recipe is that it tasted nice enough and grown up enough to have it as your own meal .

Some diced onion and a small garlic, slightly fried in one table spoon of olive oil, chicken tight with no bone added and fried for a couple of minutes; then added carrots and broccoli. Added one very low salt chicken cube, added a bit of water and left it to cook for 20 minutes or so. You can add less water if you want stew or more if you want soup. I then blended it for ds because he still has problems with lumpy food.
He absolutely loved it.
By the way base on 1/3 protein 1/3 vegetable 1/3 starchy food principle I am missing starchy so next time I'll add some potato or rice.

felkov · 10/02/2015 21:09

loving all the food stories and some great tips too! We're getting on quite well with blw although i don't think Dd has actually swallowed much yet. just a few tiny bits seem to go down despite giving it her best shot chewing and holding the food.

do you think it matters if she's not actually getting any much nutitional value at the moment?

so far I've offered broccoli, cauliflower, potato, carrot, cabbage, plum, melon and some soft toast soldiers. mostly it gets chewed to mush then dropped and ends up on the floor!

BeansMrSeanAndHeinz · 11/02/2015 16:13

Hello everyone - we went to a weaning info session today so I have leaflets!

felkov apparently it's fine for them to not appear to eat much as the next six months are about getting them used to food rather than eating it and their main calories are still coming from milk. Said the health visitor today anyway. And also not to worry too much each day but to consider their intake over a week.

What else did we learn? Don't give them sugar or salt. Buy a shower curtain for the floor if you are doing baby led weaning.

BeansMrSeanAndHeinz · 11/02/2015 16:13

And don't give them shark or marlin until they're 12 months, i was quite tickled as I haven't had either in ?oh, 36 years!

GingerCuddleMonster · 11/02/2015 20:14

Beans Damn it now this whole Marlin will go to waste Grin.

Felkov DS eats hardly any of the food, he still has all his milk feeds.

tonight we gave DS some banana but in a nubby net feeder thing after last night's full on turning blue choking episode , that scared the fucking shit out of me, thank God I know first aid!!

he enjoyed some mushy banana sucked through netting lol

mrsmilkymoo · 11/02/2015 21:55

That sounds terrifying ginger. dd had some homemade veggie burger tonight. It was very mushy and not that great but it was something new for her to play with at least.

I'm worried though because the start of weaning has coincided with terrible sleep, and not sure if it's the introduction of solids which has caused this. She's been waking at 1 or 2am and then staying awake for several hours. It's gruelling and originally i thought it was teething related, but wondering now if she has some trouble digesting certain foods. Her worst nights have been after cucumber though which I wouldn't have thought would cause problems.

mrsmilkymoo · 11/02/2015 21:58

felkov dd also plays with food far more than eating! The mess is unbelievable, all in her hair (and she has a lot of hair).

WhyNotSmile · 12/02/2015 14:48

DS is surprisingly competent with a spoon - can decorate his entire face, the high chair and the surrounding floor in no time.

About cucumber - my dad always said it repeats on him for ages; he would really feel quite ill after eating it. No reason why babies wouldn't be the same, I guess.
