I've been told via Whatsapp by a MN'er this morning who used to be a member of the ante-natal group that there's a Facebook group, but that they won't accept anyone or her back Hmm (a bit weird if you ask me, but each to their own, and have really left a PND suffering mum feeling like shit, but I doubt they care in their "clique")

So are there any August Mums left on here willing to chat, without connecting to Faceache?

morning all

milk ds gums me and that's painful enough I'm dreading a tooth Confused

Sympathy! DS woke every hour last night, pretty much, so I feel your pain! Thankfully he settled fairly quickly each time after a decent feed.

Do you think it's a growth spurt? The frequent feeding suggests to me that that's what's going on at this end.

Redtractorwontsleep · 29/01/2015 16:33

How much feed are your LOs having? DS is definitely going through a growth spurt, he's taking 9oz every 3.5 to 4hrs!!
HV coming to do his 4month! check next week, I'll probably think of loads of things to ask once she's gone!
Hope everyone has a better nights sleep tonight!

GingerCuddleMonster · 29/01/2015 17:38

I'm hoping it's a growth spurt, been and had ds measured and weighed today at 24weeks, he is tiny and I'm starting to worry Blush

he's not even the 25th percentile for annything and is between 2nd and 9th for length. Confused he weighs 6.8kg at 24weeks that's all Sad

He also only feeds about 5oz at a time every 3ish hours. Am I doing something wrong?!?!

OP posts:
Nazly · 29/01/2015 17:52

Ginger what could you be doing wrong? Should he be big by genes? Has he dropped percentiles? If not I would not worry.

Nazly · 29/01/2015 17:54

By the way, I didn't want to use jars apart from when out and about; I have also tasted some foods from organic jars and they don't taste very nice... I know it could be difficult to cook separate for baby if when working, so planning to freeze some until he is 8m and can eat mashed food

Cookie say it again please, how do you freeze?

GingerCuddleMonster · 29/01/2015 18:02

fairly big, his father's and uncles on both sides are all well over 6ft tall and broad men. I'm fairly short at 5ft3 but I'm not slight I'm very stocky and muscular so he should be heavy at least Sad.

I've managed today to make a load of baby puree from scratch thanks to my nursery giving me a receipe book, so they've all been put in the freezer except for this evenings tea.

Redtractorwontsleep · 29/01/2015 18:10

Of course you're not doing anything wrong, every baby is different. Maybe speak to your HV. DS is massive for his age, haven't had him weighed for ages but he's nearly out of his 6-9months clothesBlush!
A mum in baby group had a tiny little girl she was 11months old but same size as DS, her mum was petite and the baby was reaching all of her milestones.

GingerCuddleMonster · 29/01/2015 18:17

HV said he's exceeding developmental milestones but just small, if he didn't pick up she said she may refeer him Sad.

he's perfect though, he's just smaller than average, I'm all worried now.

OP posts:
Redtractorwontsleep · 29/01/2015 18:39

Ask HV to refer you anyway to put your mind at rest.

felkov · 29/01/2015 19:11

Ginger if he's meeting all the milestones don't worry too much. some babies are big and some are small, they can't all be the perfect average Wink but no harm in checking with the HV for peace of mind

mine is on the big side, 95th percentile or something and i worry about overfeeding. There's always going to be something to worry about it is the nature of being a mum!
not to mention my back is killing me dd is so flipping heavy!!

cookielove · 29/01/2015 19:20

Nazly I am just keeping it simple flavours for now so I have made apple, sweet potato and carrot puree. I peeled 4 Cox apples (as they puree into nothing) and with about an inch of water in heated till soft on the hob. Used a hand blender to puree then filled 2 ice cube trays with it. Once frozen I removed from the trays and popped them in a freezer bag with the date I pureed it and what it is on the outside. The carrot and sweet potato I just boiled and then used a bit of the water to help loosen the puree so it wasn't so thick.

Now I just take a cube out and either microwave it or let it warm up by room temp.

Does that help?

Oh I used 3 large ish carrots which created 2 icecube trays and 1 sweet potato which was more than enough for two trays!

Nazly · 29/01/2015 20:47

Cookie thanks yes it does. I bought these small freezer pots with lids (8 for £3.5) which is not cheap considering each time you cook you want to at least fill 8 (?) but I am very lazy like that; just want to take the pot out and take it out if we are going out or heat it direct

I have to either order more or go with your method. Last night I used three red pears and got only four pits out of it.

We tried Avocado today; it was briiliant.

Ginger to be honest I would not worry; my ds is on the big size already moved to 9-12 months but he is not rolling yet and only sits for a few seconds each time... But if you worry just check with ur gp to put your mind at rest

GingerCuddleMonster · 29/01/2015 21:08

DP has told me to stop being silly Blush

one receipe I made and was a hit tonight was sweet potato with spinach and peas.

50g leak, finely sliced
20g unsalted butter
1 sweet potato peeled and chopped
50g frozen peas
75g fresh baby spinach, washed and tough stalks removed

melt the butter in a saucepan and saute the leak for 2 to 3 minutes or until softened. Add sweet potato, pour over 200ml water, bring to the boil, then cover and simmer for 7-8mins. add the peas and spinach and cook for 3mins, Puree in a blender.

it makes 5 portions and you can freeze it. DS was green though by the end of food time, he looked like the grinch Grin

Thanks ginger ; looking forward to more interesting foods... Right now we are sticking to one taste per day for at least one week or maybe two ; but then we only started two days ago.

WhyNotSmile · 30/01/2015 03:01

I just got 3 hours' sleep. In a ROW. So pleased! Think we might be through the growth spurt at least, as feeding has slowed up a bit.

mrsmilkymoo · 30/01/2015 08:06

ginger dd is tiny too and at 25 weeks weighs less than your ds. I guess some babies are just small. I wouldn't worry too much if he's doing fine in all other ways. It's easier said than done though especially when you compare to other babies their age. Dd has not long been in the 3-6 month clothes and shows no sign of growing out of them even though she'll be six months on Tuesday. How heavy was your ds at birth?

felkov · 30/01/2015 11:21

Glad to hear it Why i would love the same but its still eluding me. dd seems to have had a permanent cold or some kind of breathing difficulty since early December when we went to visit my parents. She's woken up around 8 times every night since and its killing me.

anyone with a good sleeper got any tips?

WhyNotSmile · 30/01/2015 17:50

Oh dear, felkov, I feel your pain! DS was waking every hour for a few nights there, and it's exhausting! Last night he only woke about 3 times, though - it was so nice! I'm telling myself that this is the start of an improvement in his sleep, but we'll see!

RedToothBrush · 30/01/2015 17:57

Ginger are you breast or formula feeding your son? DS had dropped just below the 9th centile for weight at his last weigh in (just under a month ago).

MrsBrownsDD · 30/01/2015 18:30

Rubbish sleep here as well, so sympathies felkov. Am dreading the next feeding frenzy. LO has learnt to roll over in cot this week as well, so will have to re-think our co-sleeper. Can't decide whether to move her out of our room or not; if we're in for another bout of feeding every hour on the hour then not sure if it's worth it?

Nazly · 30/01/2015 21:37

Sweet potato puree (mixed with milk) was a big hit here. Those of you who have started weaning, do you offer water frequently?

WhyNotSmile · 31/01/2015 05:38

No sleep in this house tonight! Handed him to DH for an hour around 2.30, but otherwise been up and down all night.

GingerCuddleMonster · 31/01/2015 17:08

evening all, it's been hectic my end!!

I'm bottle feeding Red also Nez I offer cool boiled water throughout the day, same as my nursery.

Another August baby joining the thread! I followed the previous trail until it went onto fb. I have a DD.
Following the purée recipes with interest! We've started with carrot and apple so far. Banana once, but it wasn't really a big hit. I'm also trying to get DD to learn to sip water from a cup (we live in a hot country so she needs to learn this!) and have bought 4 different types of cup, but none successful so far....
